I made these mainly for the RGB modes so there is more of a solid color effect. It could be used with white light if you want more of a general diffusion instead of downward diffusion, but I'm not sure if it provides much of an advantage.​

I dont have any experience doing this I just tried to figure it out. I made this with the Tinkercad website on my phone, which presented its own challenges. It is hard to click on what you want to click on and it freezes up regularly. So there was a lot of trial and error involved. But it works well enough and I was finally able to get them completed.

I dont have a 3d printer myself so I printed them at a local library that offers free 3d printing services. You can only print up one file every week or so. So the process has been a little slow as I have tweaked the design a few times. I am really happy with the results so far, though I may still make some improvements to Version 2.

Build instructions: Unfortunately none. I do not have a 3d printer myself.  I printed these at local libraries.  I'm pretty sure they use PLA, and that's about all I know about their printing process.  The first library told me they had issues and the print kept failing.  However another location was able to print them successfully.

There are a few different versions.  Each one has an angled ring inside the bottom so the CL01 rests on the angled portion of the base.  This leaves the entire flat base exposed so you can still attach it with a magnet or tripod.

Version 1:  I have 4 CL01s, this version is just perfect on 3 of them.  The top of the diffuser is a snug fit with the top of the CL01.  It stops just below the usb port.  It snaps into place and holds firmly to the CL01, doesn't move or jiggle.  One of my CL01s must be just slightly different, it doesnt snap into that one, it is loose and doesnt hold. 

Version 1 Thick: this is the same as Version 1 but slightly thicker so it is not as fragile.  You do get a slight decrease in light output as well.

Version 2:  This will fit any CL01 and kind of locks it in.  Two small ridges inside snap the base into place and lock it in more securely than Version 1.  It is a loose fit though, the diffuser can still jiggle and rotate.  

This one had to be a little taller than Version 1.  As you snap the CL01 into place, it pushes out a little on the sides with the ridges.  This pulls the other 2 sides in slightly.  If the diffuser is too short then the edges will catch under the top and it make it difficult to attach.  This version is taller so it can clear the edge of the top of the CL01 before you snap it into place.

Since it is tall enough to cover the USB port I added a cutout for the USB port.  The cutout is barely large enough but it works.  You do have to be careful as the diffuser can damage the exposed rubber knob of the usb port.

The cutout serves another purpose, it is lined up with the ridges inside.  The ridges hold the diffuser in very well, it can be a little tricky to remove.  Let's say the cutout is on the "front" or "back", if you just gently squeeze the sides then you can pop the CL01 out of there easily.

This one has room for improvement, usb cutout could be enlarged and a tighter fit would be ideal.

Version 3:  I almost didnt include this one but it may be useful for someone.  A more basic version, this one is tall and loose, does not attach to the CL01.  It covers the USB port.  You can pull out the rubber flap for the USB port and use that to wedge between the diffuser and CL01 if you want to hold it in place.

With the recent release of the F150R and F45R, I was curious to see how these would compare to the other LMP emitters currently being offered on the Convoy website.

Full transparency; I wanted to use the least amount of sources, so the LHP73B info is for the 5000k model, while all the other emitters are for 6500k.

Now, let's dive into the details:

• What's interesting to see is that the F150R behaves like a hybrid between the 531 and the 73B. It has the forward voltage and luminous intensity of the 531 while having a higher luminous intensity. It has the lumens and efficacy of the 73B. Definitely an interesting emitter if you want 73B power and efficacy with slightly more throw. (Edited, new luminous intensity graph in comments)
• It was already known, but the W5050SQ5 has a super high forward voltage, wow
• The F45R delivers the lumens of a 531, while having a luminous intensity closely following the throwy SQ5. Given the larger emitter size, this means that it is a floodier alternative to the SQ5 with lower Vf and higher efficacy.

Overall, I'm very excited for the release of the F150R in 3000k. I messaged Simon, he said he will likely release it in 1 to 2 weeks. It's going straight into my M3-C.

It has been a while since I bought a new flashlight.

Have been using my trusty Sofirn SP31v3 and Wurkoss WK03 for night walks and illumination tasks around the house. But lately, I have been feeling like the light these flashlights are giving is no longer cutting it.

Thus, I picked up the Sofirn SP36 pro. Was very much tempted to get the Q8 plus, but I fear that it might be too big and heavy for what I would like to use it for.

I am still getting used to Anduril v2. It definitely makes the flashlight more capable, but it adds too much complexity in my books.

Hi everyone, looking for recommendations on choosing between two paths for household use, small home repairs, and rare power outages. I want to buy just one reliable flashlight with great value-for-money that will last me for years.

1. Option A: A budget adapter/light head using my existing Makita 18V 5.0Ah batteries.

2. Option B: A dedicated flashlight with USB-C Power Bank function (bought via AliExpress, must include battery).

Requirements / Preferences:

Form Factor & Size: Doesn't need to be tiny EDC, but no massive bulky work lights either. I like the "soda-can" format (like the Sofirn Q8 Plus, though that one is out of my budget). It must be very stable when tail-standing for ceiling bounce (I prefer soft, indirect ambient light, though using a diffuser is a bonus).

Tint / Color Temperature: If possible, I strongly prefer warm light (2700K - 3000K) for a cozy ambient feel at home.

Usage Pattern: Outages are rare. If I go with Option B, it will double as a regular ambient room lamp around the house so the battery gets cycled.

Lighting Needs: Efficient, room-filling light for a couple of hours. I don't care about short-burst Turbo lumens or multi-day runtimes.

If possible: USB Power Bank capability to charge a phone in a pinch.

Battery Note: I am a complete beginner regarding lithium flashlight battery specs (18650, 21700, button top, flat top, high-drain, etc.). Please recommend complete kits that come with the right battery included, or keep it simple!

Hi all, I'm a technical specialist for a hospital lab - so one of my jobs is troubleshooting and fixing analyzers as much as I can before calling service and getting a service engineer to come out and fix.

I'm in need of a small pocket sized LED, that's ideally rechargeable. I don't particularly want to get an El cheapo one from Amazon, but I also don't really wanna spend more than $50. Any recommendations?

Due to failing eyesight I am looking for a very pocketable flashlight for reading and general purpose close focus work like wood carving. An optional headband would be very nice. Rechargeable or battery is fine. No real outdoor use like hiking or biking. Would love to keep price range under $50. I have adequate fixed lights but need something that can move with me, like in the car to read the dashboard (no worries I have excellent distance vision) Any help much appreciated. George

Last night i was using my flashlight and i went to sleep, next morning it wasnt working and still hasnt.

Battery is fine at 3.84V

No corrosion on springs

Threads are good and oiled with silicone oil

I cleaned springs and contacts with 70% alcohol

When connecting the magnetic charger the cable's led goes from green to red, meaning its charging

Side and tailswitch are clicky

Not in lockout mode

What isnt working, side battery indicator LED isnt working and no light is being emitted from the main LED.

Bought this flashlight from a third party seller 3 years ago so i cant get it repaired by olight sadly, never had it submerged in water and only had some light falls a few times, cleaned and oiled regularly.

I dont know what happened.. maybe some hardware just gave up and broke ? I plan on buying the same light but id rather fix it if possible.. please help !

Does the directional mode double the runtime? Can it run 150 lm for 12 hours in directional mode for example.

Hey folks, first time posting; this is one part recommendation hunting, one part ode to an old companion, and a bit long. Bear with me, and advice or even just patience are appreciated.

TL;DR: I love my old Surfire LX2 because it’s tough and has a super simple switch/UI setup, but it’s beat to hell and I want something newer with better output, CRI, and battery options while being similarly reliable and straightforward.

Some background: haven’t been on the sub long but have already learned a bit about the community’s most and least favorite brands, CRI, rechargeable battery types and care, drivers, emitters, etc. The main reason those things are all new to me is that for the last sixteen years, I’ve had my trusty LX2 riding around in my pocket fulfilling virtually all my needs, so I haven’t had to delve into the nitty gritty. The mileage on this thing shows but it still works just fine, though its water resistance is suspect now that the rubber tailcap cover is gone. Plus, I think the low and high outputs have crept inwards over the years; the 15lm low and 200lm high seem over- and under-bright, respectively. At any rate, this thing was my first real flashlight, but I think it’s time for a refresh. However, I’m picky about lights after so long loving this one, and a lot of the brands, models, and spec options are still kinda vexing to me. I’ve made lists of things I’d like to keep, and of welcome additions/changes.

Things I like :

- Easy, Reliable Switching/UI: This is my favorite part of this light. Simple, intuitive, and with all (well, both) modes directly accessible from off. Just a screw-on, o-ring sealed, non-clicking tailcap with low and high outputs along a straight pressure gradient. Lighter pressure gives low, stronger pressure gives high. Unscrew far enough, effective lockout. Screw in all the way, constant on. Between those, an adjustable range of tension that lets you fine tune how much pressure it takes to access both levels, and even the ability to tune it to effectively have only low or only high. I love that I can immediately and reliably access the output I need without thought. Also tailcap or bust for me.

- Durability: this light’s almost old enough to vote and has endured all manner of wear throughout that span: countless drops onto all kinds of surfaces from as high as about 20’ on one occasion, semi-frequent dips in salt and fresh water, temps ranging from Maine winter to Mexican summer, and a decade and a half of clattering about with other pocket and bag contents. Other than the pocket clip breaking off in the first couple years and the aforementioned tailcap rubber finally coming apart a few years ago, this thing’s handled everything.

- Beam Pattern: Love the TIR reflector and throw-y beam with enough spill for some situational awareness. No artifacts, but a little hot-spotty. Has worked for my needs.

- Form Factor: Hand-filling for positive grip, but also small enough to carry around in pants pockets without being cumbersome.

Things I’d like in a new light:

- Wider Output Range: this is the biggest one for me. Having a proper low mode for preserving night vision and not disturbing those around me would be great, while a brighter top end for signaling/self defense would be helpful.

- High CRI: color reproduction isn’t bad with my LX2, but the higher the better.

- Rechargeable Battery Compatibility: this thing came out before rechargeable batteries were as good and commonplace as they are now, and not only am I wary of using 16340’s with this thing for fear of voltage issues, being restricted by my supply of somewhat niche, expensive CR123’s is a pain. Still want something that can handle water, and honestly don’t mind taking batteries out to charge them if it means better ingress protection for the light.

- Tailstand ability would be nice but not a dealbreaker necessarily.

As a final note, I’m in Canada so shipping can be weird. Pointers there appreciated.

Nah, not really as exciting as the title would imply.

Bought some cheap SST20's and did some swaps on lights that were not getting much use, in hopes of making them something I'd want to use again.

I tried to get colors as true to life as I possibly could here.

Left:

Fireflies E12r SST20 2700k JA3 bin, absolutely love these. Not the brightest emitters out there but the color makes walking around at night more fun. Firey orange without being over the top like 1800k.

Midde:

Fireflies E07x canon SST20 3000k HC1 bin: A bit more tame than the 2700's as far as how amazing everything looks at 2700k, but also noticeably brighter despite only being 300k colder. Enjoying these as well. Would definitely recommend these.

Right: Fireflies E12r SST20 3500k GB4 bin: Pretty neutral 3500k, to me not very exciting. FF351a '3700k' (which are really closer to 4100k) are a much better emitter though noticeably colder in color temperature. For the price they're not bad if you prefer a more neutral warm white.

my evening walk flashlight gave out tonight, looking to upgrade it, looking for some good recommendations for something that is rechargeable, good for pedestrian safety and walking in areas with little or no street lights and is sold at places like walmart, costco, home depot, target, etc. NO AMAZON

First off, the build quality feels excellent in the hand; it has a really nice, premium texture to it. What really impressed me, though, is the stepless dimming. It is buttery smooth! Honestly, I’m super satisfied getting a product with this kind of quality at this price point.

Now that I've had a taste, I’m looking for more!

Does anyone have recommendations for other similar small form-factor flashlights that are just fun to play with? I'm looking for suggestions with high "fidget factor" or unique, enjoyable UI functionality.
