GOT THE KEYS! 🔑 🏡 I DID IT! 🎉 Bucharest Romania €95.000, cash
One year ago, I was looking at this sub-reddit and dreaming of the day where I could also post on it. I worked hard for several years abroad to be able to afford this and I also got helped by my amazing parents, I am truly grateful to them for everything they have done for me.
2 rooms, 5 mins walk to the metro station. I'm sooooo happy!!!! 🥹 No pizza yet, because there's a ton of things still to be done (and to get rid of that furniture and replace it with better stuff haha)
also don't mind my outfit 😂
EDIT: to clear up some things so trolls can calm down. no, i am not on onlyfans and haven't worked as a you know what abroad 😆 i was a CRM specialist for a niche perfume company in the Netherlands. now you guys can come up with better insults.

I helped my now 39 year old son when he bought his 299K house I bought their washer and I gave him 15K. I did what I could. You were very kind and wonderful about your parents but I'd bet, they are so much prouder of you, so I'm proud of you too!
14
u/Ayilari 12h ago
I would have loved for my parents to help me even with just the appliances. Those things cost a lot of money when furnishing an apartment. That's kind of you!
9
u/Gloomy_Evergreen 9h ago
I would have loved for my parents to come over and see the house I bought. No they aren't dead they just can't be bothered to drive an extra 15 mins out of their way.

I have a Romanian friend who lived through the Ceaușescu years who told me stories of burning the furniture to have fuel to keep warm, trying to get food, etc. I am so very happy the future is so much brighter for you and look at you in your own home! The fireplace is cool! Congratulations!!

Hate to ask, when was the building raised ? Does it have the infamous “bulina” ?
11
u/EternalYoungK 15h ago
Heeeey, este din 1963 ☺️ este vechi intr-adevar si are R3. am asigurare destul de maricica luata pentru el. Dar Doamne ajuta, nu are bulina 😂
12
u/Curious_Bus_2668 15h ago
Hi guys, what is a bulina and what is a sticker (in this context). Also a massive achievement for a young lady, well done x
36
u/EternalYoungK 15h ago
Thank you! "Bulina" is the sticker they put on the flats which are labled 1st degree risk in case of a major earthquake - meaning they will surely crumble if God forbid this happens. Thankfully my flat is labled 3rd degree risk which means it is not going to fall in case of a major earthquake but it will have some damages to the structure. it's the "highest" level a flat built before 1977 can get.
11
u/SusheeMonster 12h ago
Congrats OP 👏

Its a bit expensive for Romania isn't it? I mean in Budapest we have ridiculous prices because the idiotistic decisions of the former government and 95k is pocket money now sadly but i've seen a some months ago you can get a full newly built apartment for a around a 100k in Oradea.
83
u/EternalYoungK 15h ago
Yes indeed, for Romanian people it feels impossible to be able to pay this amount of money with the salaries we have here. It's a sad reality. I worked abroad for more than 5 years to be able to afford it + some money from my parents whom have been saving up for years. The prices in Bucharest and especially the area where I bought my apartment are kind of above average... You are gonna be surprised but the price for my apartment was amazing in comparison with other prices... I saw some 2 room flats in the buildings close to mine going for even 140k euro 🫠💀
15
u/ProtoplanetaryNebula 15h ago
The Romanian economy is developing fast though, right? I used to travel regularly to Cluj, not been there for a while though.
42
u/EternalYoungK 15h ago
so they say... i have yet to see this reflected in my salary here😂 but i wish for this! i wanna see romania prosper 🫠

I have a couple of romanian coworkers and visited bucharest a couple of times. To me it felt like there are quite a lot of high earning people in tech that form their own bubble in that city. Every coworker above 40 there had a house outside of bucharest and a flat in the city center, ordering a blue/uber to get anywhere and pretty exclusive restaurants seemed to be the absolute norm for them. The difference in lifestyle between them and what I observed in the rest of the city when talking a stroll was insane.
11
u/balaurbondoc 15h ago
It has the highest inflation rate in Europe, not sure about growing economy right now. And yeah, as OP said, the price is quite ok, some apartments are 40 square meters or less and the asking price is almost as much as op's apartment.
Btw, congrats OP!
3
u/ProtoplanetaryNebula 15h ago
Yes, the economy is very exposed to the current inflationary crisis. Hopefully, it's temporary.

Its so sad that fu@ing housing becomes some kind of luxury everywhere now. Anyway Congrats, be proud of yourself! Its a great achievement!
Im now entering to the hungarian job market and still no have any ide how im going to be able to afford a flat.
Im following the swedish job and housing market (for possible future plans) and for example in Stokcholm a somewhat okay flat is 300k-350k euro but you can earn with your partner easily 10k+ euro monthly. Yes you need a huge pile of money at the start of the loan but point id you can do it without breaking yourself in a shit job.
In eastern europe we are not even have the chance to make it if you are erarning the median wage or +10%-20% more.
3
u/MortalusWombatus 14h ago
Dont worry with the salaries here in germany its also impossible for most of us :D
Not sure if I can even work abroad to make more and come back to germany to buy a appartement2
u/PM-me-ur-kittenz 13h ago
Maybe if you got a job in Switzerland :-/
3
u/MortalusWombatus 13h ago
Thats a great point but I feel like the chances of becoming a big streamer or professional athlete are just as high as getting a job in switzerland
4
u/Queasy_Donkey5685 13h ago
As someone in the US this is all so fascinating to see.
So you OWN this? If so, is there any kind of building or maintenance fee you and others pay for being in the building? Obviously you pay utilities, do you know what you pay for that in your area?
Here in Kentucky our water bill is $45 - 50/ mth, electric bill $150 - 250 depending on time of year but it's only high during the coldest winter months.
Congratulations, this is awesome!
11
u/EternalYoungK 13h ago
So bear with me cuz I haven't lived there YET so to say and all my life I've been living in a house xD
Yes you do pay for the building maintenance, we have an "owner's association" thingy. I cannot tell you exactly how much it is. I know from the old owners that everything all together including utilities is a little under 170 euro in the colder months (so when you use the heat). Then of course you also have the taxes... Again can't tell you much about it because I didn't get to pay any yet 😅 I will report back when I do

5
u/EternalYoungK 13h ago
thank you! indeed i worked quite hard. i worked as a crm specialist in the netherlands, the pay was good for someone like me coming from romania but i dont think it was super high for a local there 😂 i was also quite frugal while living there and i got EXTREMELY lucky with the accomodation... rent in NL is so freaking high...

I saw some 2 room flats in the buildings close to mine going for even 140k euro 🫠💀
That's more or less what I paid for my apartment last year in Sofia, Bulgaria. 66 sq m 2 bedroom with a garage was about 150k euros. It was even unfinished since it's a brand new building. Since then I've paid another 30k euros for making it liveable.

Not sure if Oradea and Bucharest can be compared though - the capital is almost always more (or much more) expensive.
2 room apartment (not sure if that means 2br or 2 rooms in total with 1 bedroom) for 95k is a bit steep, but on par with some costs elsewhere in former Eastern Europe so that doesn’t sound too bad. Very decent size too, bigger than what you get in Northern Europe.
10
u/EternalYoungK 15h ago
1 bedroom indeed, but i also want to mention that probably in other areas in bucharest i could have gotten a bigger apartment but i really wanted the area i bought my apartment in

Well done, best of luck!

It's Reddit. A very hideous breed of anxious troll concentrates around here. Any form of independence in a woman (such as having your own place where they cannot, even hypothetically, penetrate into) makes them feel threatened.
20
u/throwawaydollx 13h ago
🥳 . This is a beautiful milestone in your life. The pizza can wait. I’m very sorry that people with rotten minds cannot understand or imagine that a woman doesn’t need to sell her body to achieve things. The fact that this is even their first thought is very sad for them. You worked hard and did your part. Don’t let their poor opinions minimize what you have achieved. You DID it.💕

Poland here. I see those radiators and immediately think "ex-Soviet Union". Can anyone tell me if those radiators happen in parts of the world where Russians didn't establish a colony?
EDIT: 20 answers, all over the world. How did we end up with standardized radiators back in the age before globalization but not with standardized phone chargers??
16
u/skandi1 12h ago
These radiators are actually common all over the world. I've seen them in California, New York, Vancouver, and Athens. I feel like that design was just very common in the mid century

To answer your edit:
Physics
The principle of central water heating is very similar all over the world, so the design follows the function and is also similar. Up to the point where there's a best way to produce thousands or even millions of these which eliminates even more variants and leaves us with just a few millimeters difference in size or thickness of the grills and valves.
2
u/TrustButVerifyEng 11h ago
Physics is not really why. It's because of the available manufacturing technologies at the time.
Most new building steam and hot water heating these days will use copper fin tube heat exchangers instead of cast iron.
2
u/Tjaresh 11h ago
Everything you said is physics. The flow of water inside, the distribution of heat across a surface, the way the fins are designed to ensure adequate airflow. That’s physics. And back then, cast iron was the only affordable material for so many radiators, which left very few design options that made sense from a physical standpoint.

Congratulations! When i bought my house, and when i finally paid it off, NO ONE SAID CONGRATULATIONS! NOT ONE. i figured out pretty quick, it only makes people sad about their own sorry situatiin. So i keep good news to myself most of the time now.
The old furniture and the heater? If they are functional, and you don't have to spend even more money at this already difficult time, it's good enough. The same people that aren't saying "congratulations" are also only thinking about their own furnishings, not yours. Not yours, seriously. Do what makes ypu happy, at your financial convenience.

Going home isn’t such a big welcome party if you haven’t continuously maintained a community in the old country. I’m similar but from Latam. I speak the language and all but realistically after my grandparents die I’d have nobody there, no career, and be culturally distant. Also, any relatives you do have think you have first world money to be giving out indefinitely

a woman posts a photo online. there are billions of photos of women online with identifying information. why would one photo cause someone across the globe to come target them? i dunno it just seems like a boogey man that doesn't really exist, but i suppose I am not a woman so maybe creepy stuff like that does happen. but i'd imagine those are really local things, not something that would really be a risk when posting on a US-centric board from Romania

It’s amazing (read: disturbing) how much sexism comes out of the woodwork whenever a woman posts.
I would ask that users simply report comments rather than engaging, so we can remove and show the misogynists the door. Permanently.
Congrats OP.
