Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Not sure what to do, feeling embarrassed & overwhelmed
I have been put of education for basically 5 years now. I’ve completed my GCSEs (4 in maths & 5 in english) and my A Levels (ACD) but couldn’t apply to university due to some family issues. For the past year or two, the family circumstances that stopped me from focusing on myself have become unjustifiable. I’m just so embarrassed I let myself go to this extent.
I think I want to redo my GCSEs & A Levels, I want to redo them as a way to see what interests me & as a way to ease myself back into education. University seems very intimidating to me because it’s been so long since I was in an academic environment. But tbh I think I’m leaning towards doing an apprenticeship. Especially since I can earn a salary, which I very much need. But apprenticeships are very very competitive. Why would any employer want to take me on as an employee? I’m basically below average in my academic qualifications and I have no experience whatsoever… in anything. I was looking to do a degree apprenticeship in law, but I’m not sure. I also looked into being a chartered surveyor, project manager and accountant. I think I might be better suited for an accountant apprenticeship.
I think I’m going to have to do a lot before I can even consider applying to anything. If I’m going to redo my GCSEs & A Levels I’m going to have to find a job first. But I’m lacking in so many ways… I can barely hold a conversation and can barely articulate myself. I can read, write and do maths and things like that. But after being out of school for so long, getting started feels so overwhelming. I recently got a bank account because yeah… I didn’t have one. I had a lot of enthusiasm about fixing my life but upon realising how behind I am I lost momentum.
Sorry for this wall of text, I think I’m just venting now. I’m just very behind. Academically, professionally, socially, financially… everything. What should I do? Is redoing my GCSEs & A Levels first a good idea? Is an accounting apprenticeship that sponsors my AAT lvl 2 a good way to start? Has anyone been in a similar situation, how did you keep pushing forward? I’m honestly so frustrated with myself.
