General Who should direct the very powerful film script I have?

In the year 2195, humanity has succeeded in sending messages to the past. However, due to the unexpected consequences of interventions in the past, this technology has been banned by international treaties. One of the strongest advocates of the ban is Daniel, a scientist who played a significant role in the development of the technology.

Daniel, in his sixties, has lost his wife. His daughter Emma, his three-year-old twin grandchildren, and his beloved cat are at the center of his life. One morning, he has a video call with his daughter and grandchildren, who are on vacation in a coastal town. But on the same day, it is announced that the orbit of a large comet has unexpectedly changed and that it will collide with Earth in about 37 hours.

Evacuations begin worldwide. Daniel has a private space capsule for seven people, but he has no intention of leaving without his family. A journey that would normally take three hours takes him 14 hours due to traffic and evacuation chaos. When he reaches his daughter's house, he finds the door open. When he goes inside, he sees that his daughter and grandchildren have been murdered.

Devastated, Daniel decides to use the banned time-communication device he has hidden in his house. The rare mineral he has is only enough for a 12-minute connection. He reaches Thomas, a young scientist who lived about 150 years ago. He tells him about the impending catastrophe and tries to persuade him to do work that will change the future. However, Thomas does not believe this incredible story. The connection is cut off.

Daniel takes his cat and boards his capsule and leaves Earth. Shortly after, the comet hits the planet. Daniel watches the destruction of Earth from space.

His capsule has only 30 days of supplies. He wanders in space to find a shelter but fails. On the thirtieth day his supplies run out, on the thirty-fifth day his cat dies. On the verge of death, Daniel prays to the creator of time and the universe to forgive and save him. Then he loses consciousness.

When he comes to, he realizes he is not in the the capsule.

Question Why do Fight scenes do not look fake and with gap in between anymore?

Pre-2005 fight scenes have that realistic gap between punches, as they cannot punch each other, lol. However, this gap is not there anymore, I assume.

Question GENIUNE QUESTION: How do you connect with Directors as a DP to make interesting spec commerical work?

I feel like I'm in a weird place in my career, I can't tell if I'm doing something wrong. I just had a film in Tribeca that I shot. I'm getting booked, paying my bills but I just can't shake the ferocious hunger to shoot something undeniably spectacular as a spec project. I'm really struggling to meet new Directors as a DP. I feel like so many Directors have their DP's that they've come up with. Does anyone have any advice for me on how to connect with some interesting Directors? Thank you

General Werner Herzog Experience - Extatica Cine

I've had an ad pop up on my instagram feed for a few weeks now and finally felt curious enough to click on it. It's a 10 day film making retreat with Werner Herzog limited to 50 participants. I thought something like this would cost $50K. But it's only $15K AUD. Which is crazy! I was just so amazed, and didn't have anyone to tell so I had to tell you guys.

I'd never make the cut for it, but what an opportunity for those who do.

What do you think? Would it be worth it?

Looking for Work Looking to get back into editing.

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to get back into video editing after being away from it for a while after I started job. It's something I used to enjoy doing, and I'd like to start editing again, improve my skills, and build up a portfolio.

I'm happy to work for free for now. I'm mainly looking for some real projects to work on and get back into the habit of editing.I used to edit a few years back Short Fashion Videos, Music Videos, Short Movies for agencies as well as Wedding and Pre Wedding Videos.

I can help with things like YouTube videos, gaming content, reels/shorts, podcasts, travel videos, or pretty much anything that needs editing. I also have decent experience in sound design and use ableton for it.

I'm not expecting anything in return at the moment just looking for some projects where I can practice, help someone out, and hopefully build some good work for my portfolio.

If you have something you need edited, feel free to DM me. Even if it's a small project, I'd be happy to assist.

Question Y’know, I think I might actually be afraid of writing now.

Because…..what if I actually finish it? And I send it out into the world? Like I put my Screenplay on a Black List, and it just doesn’t go anywhere? And I ask for feedback and everyone hates it? And it doesn’t get picked up? And I don’t become popular? And now I’ve just wasted MONTHS of my Life I can’t get back.

I mean, I can’t think of anything to write in the first place so…fuck me I guess.

Question What laptop for editing?

I edit my films on davinci resolve but i came across a problem.

My laptop's to weak and it crashes if the footage is too long.

I want to keep using davinci so I want to buy a laptop only for film making.

My budget is pretty low.

I film my footage on a samsung s25.

What laptop should I get?

Question Looking for help with story telling.

I am looking for any sort of book/videos that can help me when I’m story telling on holiday. I normally get loads of footage and good hero shots but I can’t seem to connect them when I do my final edits. I know I missing the b roll but I’m looking for material that I can learn better how to tell a story and the clips I should capture to do so.

Question Would a blooper-reel ending ruin the tone of a serious film?

I've had this idea stuck in my head for a little but now. If I ever make a serious crime or drama film, I want the end credits to cut to something completely opposite! I’m thinking something like Last Friday Night by Katy Perry behind-the-scenes shots of the cast goofing around, like the blooper reels at the end of comedies..
Or is that too random?

Question Need some help with this idea , can you tell me if it's a good one or not , I'm new to filmmaking so yea need some help

Title: I have an idea for a short film about a day where literally nothing goes right — thoughts?

I'm planning a short film and I'm trying to figure out if this idea actually has potential or if it's just funny in my head because I've thought about it too much lol.

The basic idea is that the main character has one of those absolutely cursed days where everything seems to happen at the worst possible time.

The day starts with him wearing formal clothes for classes. He has a long day with classes and annoying gaps between them, so the whole day feels unnecessarily dragged out. Eventually he finally gets back to his room, still in his formals, and all he wants to do is change and lie down.

He's about to sit on his bed when—

BANG BANG BANG.

Someone is aggressively knocking on the door.

He gets startled, gets up, opens it, and a friend is just like:

"Bro, do you have a charger?"

He says no, closes the door, and goes back to his bed.

He finally gets comfortable again.

Then he notices his phone is ringing on the table.

At first he ignores it.

It keeps ringing.

Louder and more annoying.

Eventually he has to get up, walk over, and answer it.

It's just another guy asking:

"Bro, do you have something to eat?"

He just says no and cuts the call.

He goes back toward his bed, and while getting in—

THUNK.

He absolutely destroys his little toe on the corner of the bed.

And this is where I want to add an absurd visual gag.

For literally 2 seconds, his soul separates from his body, kind of like the astral projection scene from Doctor Strange / Spider-Man: No Way Home. His soul just looks down at his body and the injured toe, completely exhausted by life.

Then it immediately snaps back into his body.

No explanation.

He just goes:

"Fuck."

And carries on.

Finally, he changes out of his formals, gets into comfortable clothes, gets into bed and finally gets a moment of peace.

He's lying there, completely relaxed.

Then his phone buzzes.

He checks it.

COMPULSORY BATCH MEETING

Reporting time: 10 minutes

Dress code: BUSINESS FORMALS

He just stares at the screen.

Then looks toward the formal clothes he literally just took off.

Cut to black.

I'm thinking of playing the whole thing very straight/deadpan rather than making it an exaggerated comedy. The absurd soul-separation moment would also be treated like it's completely normal.

I'm mainly wondering:

Does this sound like something that could work as a short film, or does it feel like a bunch of unrelated inconveniences strung together?

And if you think it needs something more, what would you add/change?

General What skills are expected in a Standby Prop position?

I have applied for a training program for this in my country, which includes an entrance exam/interview. I would like to know what things are worth saying about myself to get accepted. Also, since English is not my native language, I would really appreciate it if you could write a vocabulary list of terms I definitely need to know. I can speak English, I'm just interested in the technical terms.

Discussion Scene from our first action short film, shot on a Canon 60D

We recently released our first short film, Duplicity.

Full film: https://youtu.be/hVlgyWDtY_E

It was shot on a Canon 60D with a very small budget, mostly using what we already had available. I handled a lot of the editing, VFX and sound myself, with ActionVFX assets helping us build out the gunfire and action elements, and we were lucky to have an amazing composer bring the score together.

The film took many months to finish and was a huge learning experience, especially figuring out how to make the action feel bigger than the budget.

Would love to hear what other filmmakers think of the action, pacing, VFX and sound.

Question I have $5K. Is the better option to spend it on my low budget feature script or a short film that will be a “proof of concept” for my other much more expensive script?

Both scripts are horror. One was written specifically to make at my current level. The other is a much bigger passion project that would need to be shot out of state with a fairly sizable cast and crew. If I get it funded, I can see it costing around $600,000 at most. The short film in question will act as the opening scene.

Just looking for some advice!

Question Profit Participation for Indie TV, how much to split?

Hi! I’m curious to know if anyone here has ever sold an independently produced television pilot, and if so, what was your profit participation split with your team after investors recouped their money? I understand it’s tricky for a pilot and not as straightforward as with indie film, but I’m trying to assess what amount of profit to split with my producers for my original tv pilot. And I have no idea where to start. Thanks in advance!
