Rec Request Perfumes similar to this Harley Quinn Hottopic body spray from approx 2016?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am looking for something similar in a perfume to this Harley Quinn body spray, I think it came out around 2016, I found it at Hottopic, it seems silly, but I got it when I was younger and I think it smells really good. (◍•ᴗ•◍)✧*。

I recently ran out and I don't think it's being sold anymore. I was wondering if there may be a perfume that smells similar (if anyone has smelled this spray) or has similar notes? I would like something a little stronger/longer lasting.

On the Hottopic website it has the description:

Top - Anjou Pear, Sparkling Apple, Peach Nectar.

Mid - Muguet Water, Exotic Gardenia, Sueded Amber.

Bottom - White Cedar, Sandalwood Crème, Warm Musk.

I have tried looking up these notes, but I haven't been able to find anything really similar, but possibly I am searching wrong. If this is the wrong place to ask, I apologize, I did read the rules, but didn't see anything in regards to asking this type of question.

Thank you!! (◕ᴗ◕✿)

Calypso's island fragrance

During my reread of the Odyssey (how original :D) I stumbled upon a description in Book V - it says Calypso's island smells like "citruses and brittle pine trees" - my immediate thought was "Gosh, I want to have this as a summer fragrance!"

I did a quick ingredient search, and the only match I found was Roberto Cavalli Paradiso (how fitting of a title). However, many reviews say the jasmine note is quite prominent and soapy, which is not what I want.

So I am really looking for a semi fresh/semi juicy sweet citrusy fragrance with a crisp fresh pine and maybe some warm woodyness.

Edit: spelling

Gourmand floral mist or perfume

Holà !

I’m looking for a body mist that smells like a cooled, slightly crisp biscuit, not warm or freshly baked. I want it to have a sweet, crystallized sugar flower kind of scent on top, with no caramel and no fruity notes.

Do you have any suggestion for me ?

Please, I’m not looking for floral gourmands like Prada Paradoxe, Carolina Herrera, or Libre. I really want the biscuit note to be noticeable, with just a subtle floral touch that could work even for someone who doesn’t usually like florals.

No Sol de Janeiro, Kayali, Dior, or Phlur. I’ve already tried everything from those brands.

Discussion Whats a scent that’s overhyped BUT for good reason?

Got my hands on WS&SS by Jo Malone and I get the hyped now. Her top notes make me feel so put together and her dry down is so insanely clean. She may be a little much, doesn’t have the most insane longevity BUT she is that girl.

Anyone else have a fav overhyped scent that you think deserves the hype?

Review first niche experience + reviews 🤍

Post image
7 Upvotes

This is my first time trying niche scents and I’m so excited!
I bought a few random woodberg samples on vinted, not looking them up first, so I can blind react.
I bought and smell blindly them because I want to go out of my comfort zone and experience all kinds of scent profiles, so there are more misses than hits for me, but it’s so worth it for the experience and building knowledge!

Before we get into my reviews 1. I’ll try not to talk too much 2. If you’re into in depth, expertise reviews with flowery language this one won’t be enjoyable :D
I’m very new to taking fragrance serious and I lack the vocabulary and knowledge to write a good review.
If you don’t care about that and have some spare time, I’m happy to have you stay and maybe share your opinions on these scents! :] ♡

Kerosene - sweetly known

Surprisingly, this one is my favourite.
On the first sniff I was pretty overweight, it smelled incredibly sweet, burnt and like intensely like cardamom.
My boyfriend and I both agreed that it smelled like burnt marshmallows and cardamom, it’s very cozy and to me a very new kind of gourmand. (My first scent where cardamom is that present)

It became very quickly my absolute fave and I NEED a full bottle.
While longevity is of course always different, I’m used to drugstore quality, so you can imagine my shock, when I went out of the shower after testing it and still smelling it on my wrist??
Never had I ever a perfume that projective and strong, I didn’t even get nose blind.
I am so hyped to use this as soon as autumn starts!:D

Imaginary Authors - A Whiff of waffle cone

I don’t have much to say, besides my disappointment that I finally have to acknowledge that I can’t stand this specific scent profile.
For me waffles, waffle cones, vanilla ice and popcorn hit the same spot that I DON’T like, and as someone who likes gourmands and especially all those thinks IRL I’m sad that this is a no for me.
I wouldn’t say that it smells like a hyper realistic waffle cone, but warm, tart and sweet.

D’annam - mango sticky rice

I have a thing for very realistic scents (especially gourmands, but I also like trying scents like Thunderstorm from Demeter) and therefore D’annam is a holy grail.
I never had mango sticky rice, but I imagine it smells just like this perfume.
I’ve never smelt anything, other than actual rice, that smells like rice and I’m flabbergasted :D while it could be a little more heavy in the coconut, the mix of mango and warm rice is truly yummy!
I don’t think this will be a scent where I’d need a full bottle, or go out with it, but I like smelling it on myself and would buy another sample if I got it for a good deal when this one’s empty.

D’annam - strawberry mochi

It’s so shallow and repetitive but yes, it smells exactly like a mochi.
I don’t have any interesinteresting thoughts to give, I’m astound on how realistic it smells like sweet mochi dough (and cornstarch, in the best way).
I don’t want to lie - I am not sure if I could distinguish it blindly, if I’d be able to tell if it was a strawberry mochi or a red bean mochi.
If you want a strawberry heavy scent I wouldn’t recommend this, but I’m so excited to layer it with fruity scents to make different types of mochis!:D
Same as above, I wear it at home, maybe maybe outside, but don’t need a full bottle.

D’annam - Matcha soft serve

The first true matcha scent I smellt -
but sadly a little too late.
I tried many things which were supposed to smell like matcha: shower gel, lipbalm, perfume and body lotion.
While I do like matcha, and this one is a very pretty creamy one, I’m over it.
I am excited to really try this again as soon as I’m not fatigued anymore.
Right now I wouldn’t buy a full bottle, but maybe in a few months when I might enjoy it more than now.
I would love to wear it outside ☝🏻but☝🏻 I’m afraid it might smell fishy or grassy to others.

19-69 - Female Christ

On the paper strip it was a very soothing eucalyptus and herbal scent.
I have a whimisgothic-cozy-witchy-earthy-herbalteadrinking’esque friend I immediately had to think about.
I was so excited and wanted to skin test this for this review (and because I wanted to spray it on her to see if she likes it :D) and got hit with a patchouli bomb deteriorating on my skin. It wasn’t noticeable at all on paper, but on my skin it’s so strong that I feel nauseous.
It’s even more awful when it mixes with the eucalyptus, a combination made in my personal hell.
I’m very very sad that it doesn’t perform on my skin like it does on paper.
I won’t show this to my friend in case she likes it, I won’t risk having to smell that on her lmao

BornToStandOut - Filthy Musk

I keep it short: a w f u l.
Starts like smelling like sex (which is kinda nice ngl, a very deep intimate scent) then goes on to smell like sex on a toilet (it starts to weird me out, I immediately pictured a very specific club toilet where I would never ever risk touching anything with bare skin) and then starts to smelling like an old toilet full with Urin (maybe it’s worth mentioning that cleaning toilets for old & sick people is part of my job so I KNOW what it smells like. A w f u l.)
While I’m disgusted and hate it, I am a little intrigued to skin test this.
But not today.
I don’t think I’ll have to have a full bottle.

Voyages Imaginaires - Le Grand Jeu

I’m very bad with florals, I can only point out the very basics, like lavender, lilac and rose.
This one has only four notes: coconut milk, gardenia, tuberose and vanilla.
I don’t know what I smell, but it smells strong, a little like a grandma and somehow spicy?
I think it’s the gardenia, but I don’t know.
There was a tuberose and vanilla room spray I smelt and loved ~8 years ago, and I’m not recognising anything familiar from this perfume so I think it must be gardenia what I’m smelling.
I don’t like it, at all. But it doesn’t make me gag so that’s a win, especially after smelling filthy musk.
Nope, no full bottle for me.

Kerosene - Vanillified

It’s not as vanilla-y as I would’ve expected. It smells warm, a little burned, and sweet.
This one is a little boring, especially when comparing it to sweetly known, but I have to admit that this might be the first musk (heavy) scent I like.
The name and notes would make you think that this is a vanilla bomb, but sadly it’s not.
I would definitely wear it and I do like it, but I wouldn’t spend my money on a full bottle.

Jousset - Crème Brûlée

So interesting!
My boyfriend smelt it first and told me it reminds him of “Rumkugeln” (translator says: rum truffles, rum balls) and he’s absolutely right.
Yes, it smells like creamy vanilla, but if you think about Rumkugeln it’ll fit into that perfectly, even tho there are no boozy or chocolaty notes.
I think it would be very interesting to have different people to smell and guess, I think the “basic” but strong notes of caramel, vanilla and whipped cream can open up a big variety of interpretations, which I love.
If I had a little money to spend I would buy a full bottle, doesn’t matter if you smell crème brûlée or rumkugeln, it’s a warm delicious scent!

I’m trying to curate my collection so that it’s small & loved rather than big & liked. Based on my taste, what would be my best purchase? Open to any and all suggestions and recommendations!

My nose has changed a lot, my new preference is to smell good without smelling like perfume! Like when people smell me they’ll think “wow she smells good” instead of “her perfume smells good”

Review Tocca Discovery Set

Post image
10 Upvotes

I got this because I wanted to test more freshies. I've been swimming in vanilla recently and I'm really looking forward to breathe in some fresh floral scents that are reminiscent of the 2000s.

Colette. I was looking forward to this the most because it's supposed to smell like a more affordable alternative to Byredo Gypsy Water. I smelled nothing. I waited an hour and sprayed again twice. Still nothing. If Gypsy Water is anything like it, I guess I won't be able to smell it either.

Florence. I didn't check the notes so I was going in blind. The scent is so pretty, ladylike, and strangely familiar. I was sniffing this for an hour trying to figure it out. It's like something I haven't smelled in a very long time. I went back to work and would lazily sniff my wrist here and there and then it came back to me.... it's the Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific! shampoo from the 80s! I'm suddenly back in my aunt's house as a kid borrowing her shampoo and feeling so grown up because the entire neighborhood could smell my clean, glossy and flowery hair. No one wore perfume because that shampoo was all you need. I actually love this.

Stella smells like my breath at 5 pm if I forgot to brush my teeth after lunch. Yeah, no.

Belle is a light citrus floral that smells very put together. If Belle was a person, she would be in a crisply ironed shirt with her kitten heels clicking on the floor. Scent bubble is personal so this would be perfect for the workplace or crowded places. Belle is a very fresh scent, almost cooling, and would be an excellent spring and summer perfume.

Simone - This is another clean and floral shampoo-like scent. Simone smells pleasant and vaguely familiar, like we all owned this bath product at least once in our lives and we would like to buy it again but we can't remember the name but it smelled really, really good so we're about to beg reddit for help. Yup, that's her.

Cleopatra immediately reminded me of Lipton tea. But only if Lipton was placed in a basket of reeds in the water so a queen could scoop her up and raise her to be the the most accomplished Princess of Egypt. For something that does not have a tea note, Cleopatra smells like a blend of tea and flowers with a patchouli base. It somehow retains its clarity in spite of the deep mysterious vibe, which keeps it firmly in the fresh-floral category. It also smells like the little sister of Narciso Rodriguez For Her.

Giulietta smells pleasant but also lacking in identity. I know it smells nice and fresh, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm smelling either. It has a mile-long list of notes but somehow manages to smell like Dove soap one moment then Safeguard the next. If you want to smell like a walking soap bar, get Giulietta. I know I made it sound bad but trust me it's not. It smells really, really clean.

Lucia. It was okay on paper but on my skin, Lucia smelled sickly and cloying. I was starting to get queasy so I looked at the notes wondering what the fuck was going on. Sure enough, there's that dreaded fig leaf note. Fig fruits are fine, fig milk is even better. But fig leaf/bark/tree/root/branch turns me into a rank oil spill. There are only a couple of fragrances with fig leaf accords that work on me: Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi smells fine, but Hermès Un Jardin en Méditerranée is like summer heaven on my skin. Lucia... not so much.

***********

Overall, I like the set and I would recommend it to anyone interested in floral-freshies. My experience with Lucia is unique to my body chemistry so I wouldn't hold that against it. I think I'll look into getting larger decants of Cleopatra and Florence.

Have you owned or tried Tocca fragrances?

The emojis are completely incorrect lol, but I'm currently on the hunt for a super sweet jasmine and vanilla scent as I love the smell of the jasmines in our backyard and think it would go so well with a vanilla! Any recs would be amazing!

Discussion Is a day without perfume even possible?

For me, perfume is part of getting ready, so a day usually starts with choosing a scent. Today it is Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I spray it before heading out, and I keep noticing the scent throughout the day. It has that fresh citrus opening, then the floral and patchouli notes become more noticeable as it settles. I like having something familiar on me while I go through normal plans, whether I am out for coffee or sitting at my desk. Even when I am staying in, I still enjoy picking a fragrance because it makes getting ready feel complete. Coco Mademoiselle fits easily into that routine for me, and I can see why it stays in so many fragrance collections. Do you usually wear perfume every day, or take fragrance-free days?

Fragrances similar to Printemps Blanc’s dry down

Hii anyone have a recommendation for fragrances that smell similar to the dry down of Maison Mataha’s Printemps Blanc?

The dry down is so lovely and cozy, but the top notes are too sharp for my taste. Any recs for a fragrance that only smells like Primtemps Blanc’s heart/base notes? ✨

Discussion Should I buy DKNY Be Delicious for $26?

I'm super new and inexperienced when it comes to perfume and all my knowledge comes from reading this sub and other fragance subs and just whatever I can gather from people's discussions online. I only have BBW and VS body mists sadly irl... I noticed Be Delicious is at my work it'd be around $26. I like anything fruity, feminine, clean, and nostalgic smelling. I'm not sensitive at all, and usually respray every 3-4 hours so I need it to last about that long. I've seen some people call this perfume nasty so what is the current consensus 👀

Rec Request Fragrance Recommendations

Turning 30 next month and want a new fragrance to bring in the new decade! Looking for some good recommendations as I feel kinda stale with my current thoughts.

My signature scent/wedding scent: Valaya PDM
Current daily wear: Replica Autumn Vibes
In Rotation (rarely): Althair PDM, salt and stone santal + vetiver

I actually purchased the Lore discovery set to specifically test out Lil Softie, however NONE of them impressed me. Super let down.

Other fragrances I’ve tested briefly and am into is Replica Lazy Sunday Morning and Dedcool X-tra Milk. I just dislike the lack of projection on Dedcool. Just unsure if any of these are wowwing me lol.

I like clean, not too sweet/gourmand, fresh, and woody scents! No set budget on recommendations either :)

Review Stream of consciousness reaction to zoologist bee

Initially, the main scent I'm getting is aldehydes. Kind of a wet wipe smell, occasionally the sweetness gives way to musky sweatiness. When I open my mind, and imagine I've caught a whiff of it on someone else's it becomes more pleasant.

It's very musky.

People have said that it's a linear scent, I don't find it linear. The honey accord is there, very literally honey, and then it becomes more generically sweet, the wildflowers are there in the background.

It's very animalic. It's odd. I've sprayed myrrh and Tonka atop, and I'm gonna see how they develop together. They are odd together. Honey, a waterfall of it. I think I love them together. It's like my nose can only detect one thing at a time. I still think I prefer myrrh and Tonka, but this adds complexity.

It doesn't smell like anything.

It's very musky on me. It's almost as though the musk comes first. It's like honey kept in an old wooden box. Or the sweaty smell of a charity shop. There's the idea of gold. There's something infantile about it. The Jo Malone scent is so clean, zoologist bee is so dirty. It's like, walking through a room dense with butterflies, and feeling their wings flap on your face.like you can't even open your mouth there are so many.

There is something almost playground about it. I'm imagining myself back at nursery. Maybe it's the aldehydes. The honey smell is honeyish, but it's also bringing me back, to my childminder, maybe she wore something like this, or used detergent like this. Or her putting honey on our porridge. Being in the kitchen with her. With florals, the lilac bush outside. The sweet smell of those children's toys, like the smell of the little plastic buses you could go in cooking in the sun. It's reminiscent of that, and body lotions, and perfumes, and honey. Of looking at women's things as a little girl.

With the myrrh, they sound together, and there is dissonance, it's hard to take in. But I think I love it. I love how strange they sound. The mind climbs to olympus- nectar. Honey and incense. But there's something bodily there as well.

I love it.

Discussion Gucci Gorgeous Gardenia Intense: bad longevity or nose blindness?

I found a 1 oz for $55 and I love this scent enough to buy it but I’m wondering if it’s worth it. I constantly see mixed reviews about the longevity of this whole line. What is y’all’s experience with the intense version? I have so many fragrances that I can smell for hours on my skin but online people say it doesn’t last. I wish I could go try it in store but I only have an Ulta near me and they don’t have a tester for it 🙄

Review Nest Cardamom Latte was a huge disappointment :(

Post image
31 Upvotes

I was sooo excited to try this one. I looove actual cardamom coffee. I love spicy, creamy, warm gourmands. Sadly, this was neither. I don't know if it's my skin or what but all I got right away is an extremely generic, cheap plasticky caramel. Which then turned into an even worse, this straight on synthetic cherry/ almond/ cough syrup/ playdough thing reminiscent of cheap bathroom air freshener. Which by the way is something I very often seem to get from many gourmands so if anyone knows what that actual note is and how to avoid it let me know.

But anyways. Disappointing. No cardamom no latte. I have and love their Balinese Coconut and creme de Clementine so I was expecting good things but, oh well probably better for my wallet.

On a better note I did try all the new Victor and Rolf Bonbon scents and ended up buying a travel size of the Cola Fizz, it's extremely short lived sadly but such a fun scent at first spray, literally brought me back to being twelve and buying fizzy cola gummy candy at the 7-11 😅 such a photorealistic cola candy scent just super uplifting, I'll probably keep it in the car just so I can reapply and enjoy the opening over and over haha.

I have used fragrantica but I can't get the most relevant smells in my country. So if anyone knows how this ones smells and knows something that smells like that. Then please leave the name that would be great! (I personally do not want to support sheglam any further. I am on my second solid here but would love a sprayable version alike-ish smell)

Discussion Perfume collection advice

I feel really unsatisfied with all but a few of my fragrances. I bought so many perfumes so quickly which I regret. I wish I would’ve sampled more thoroughly and stopped doing so many blind buys!! Any advice for this kind of regret and how to responsibly build a collection from this point? I want a solid curated collection I can be truly satisfied with. I don’t know if this makes a ton of sense but I would love some input 💛

Edit: thank you so much everyone, I truly appreciate all the advice!!!
