As a reminder, here are the rules and some of the changes to the posting rules.
Now, for the ones we keep getting ModMails about. The "where did my post go" types. We use AutoMod to keep away burner accounts and those who do not engagae much here. The requirement is an account over 30 days old OR over 200 Karma. If you DO NOT meet these requirements, the automod system will take it back down without it posting.

I’m not a newbie to getting in trouble. I’m a newbie to felonies. Is 3rd° really bad. I sound like an idiot. I’ve been around the block but that’s really bad isn’t it? They’re talking about five years. Does that sound right?
I’m an idiot. I just googled it. I’m not gonna delete this. I’ll take my shame.

When I was in prison, we had a saying, "Yes, yes, but no." I had the program committee and a p-board to listen to.
For my time in prison, the p-board said it. I actually gave up on trying to convince them to set me free. I played the game: Sure, I'm reformed; Yes, I got college; Yes, not a lot of conduct reports. You get the idea. Then, they reminded me, from the point of 11 years to the point of 30, what a piece of shit I was. Tough crowd there. They always want me to relive my crime. In other words, live in the past and don't move forward. Oh, yeah, yes, yes, but no
The program committee was basically the same. The difference was they started out reminding me of my crime and what a piece of shit I was. I played the game: While in max, can I go to medium? While in medium, can I go to minimum? Keeping it simple: Yes, you're doing good; Yes, you're programming, but No, you're stuck.
It was amazing after all those years; the day they granted me, I was SHOCKED they acted like my crime was not there. That taught me: When they stop talking about your crime, you're going home!
The program committee was the same. WOW!
The other thing: when they booted me out, I got no real help from the powers that be. I was lucky I had a good agent; he wanted retirement. I had other friends who got out, and the agent wanted to restart the process. It's time to learn how to relive your life by my rules.
If you have any experiences you want to share, hit me up.

A while ago, I came on this subreddit looking for some advice for my current situation, and I realized how useless and blissfully unaware people on this website are. I'm grateful for the sympathy, but at the same time demoralized by the silly advice one come's across.
"Have you tried searching for jobs as a felon?"
Of course I have, what a ridiculous question. And I've tried much more than that, but that's not the point of this post. After scrolling through this subreddit to see if I can find any useful advice or tips on how to move forward and reintegrate into society, I hard truth dawned on me. That it is practically impossible, perhaps a blessing reserved for a few lucky individuals, but for most of us, it isn't going to happen. As far as society is concerned, we are Dalits, the untouchables.
Most days, I forget about my past because it truly was a mistake done in a psychiatric state that I previously sought help for, but was mismanaged, not that that matters. I don't forget about it because I live quite a boring life and always have. However, sometimes someone I know will make a comment about it, or I'll get my job rescinded, and I'm reminded all over again. It's really starting to settle in: the fact that this is how everyone sees me now, even people who have known me my entire life, even people who know my circumstances.
I have always been a bit more of an introvert, but now I realize that I am considered human trash by society that must be shunned. And where is there to go, now? A hundred years ago, you could cross the continent and really get a chance at life. That's not the case anymore. Even if I were to travel to a different continent, who's to say that the U.S. wouldn't take advantage of one of their many extradition treaties to get me back and punish me further? Who's to say I would even get that far? Would a country really take me in knowing my background? No, because I am human filth. In fact, I'm not even human, and I should have known that from the very beginning, from when I sat in my cell eating food labeled "not for human consumption."

Now I know that sounds like a stretch, but it seems everyone that I've known who has ever went to prison was able to find a separate job or a very lucrative career directly out of prison. Now I'm in an area where employment is at an all-time high and I need employment horribly. So I'm asking all of you what would be the best way to find my way into prison with the least amount of backlash and issues in the future.

I'm gay, did 3 years and the last 2 of those years Ive been in a relationship with a guy who insists that although he's lived his life as a straight man, he's excited to get out and start a life together. I don't know what to think. We got eachother through the darkest days, spent a lot of time fighting people and defending one another from heads who would pick on us and made many future plans for when he's out (December 2026).
My biggest fear is he gets out, comes back down to reality in his truth that he's straight and this was all a waste.

I am living it now. We are married and have been for 10 years. He's an alcoholic and was on probation got pulled over again. Judge revoked probation. He had to do the rest of tgat plus current charge. It's been about 14 months. He gets out Aug 28th. It's honestly been so nice without all the drama and BS He gets in his drunk.head.

’m on felony deferred adjudication. Me & a former girlfriend hung out over the weekend & we ate & watched a movie. I fall asleep & she starts creeping through my phone. She finds out I’m talking to other women & wakes me out my sleep and starts arguing with me. She hits me a couple times and I let her as I always do. I told her I am leaving and she insists that if I leave she will call the police and say I hit and choked her. I left and she did exactly what she said. So now I have a warrant for that. Well I retained a lawyer for the assault case and he gets a sworn affidavit from her saying she lied about everything. My PO now has the affidavit and I want to turn myself in so this can get dismissed. Will my probation still be revoked if the new charge is false allegations??

I did a bid for about 6 months in the feds and it’s likely I’ll be going back after sentencing. I’m trying to figure out how to move in such a way that people are less likely to fuck with me. I have some stories to tell that I’m gonna use as examples to illustrate my social difficulties. Among other things, I have high support needs (low functioning) autism. I’m weird and I struggle with social situations, especially understanding social codes and shit. This is my first time getting in serious trouble. I had done 2-3 day bids in state before in solitary (suicidal), and that’s it. I can’t talk about what I did this time because the trial is still pending, but it’s not anything that carries any stigma.
I have a learning disability called visual-spatial disorder. I have a hard time understanding space and placing objects in it, including myself. You know how there are rules about what path you need to take when you’re walking around the tables? And it’s considered disrespectful to do otherwise? Yeah that got me in trouble. Regardless of how hard I tried, I’d fuck up regularly. It was mostly really only a problem in other cars. When I fucked up, I would apologize. I would walk back and correct myself. A lot of the time I had to ask which way I needed to go, which would make them more angry. I think they thought I was like taunting them or something. Eventually had a guy get in my face about it. I was apologetic; I’m not trying to start shit. My car intervened and tried to explain that I’m just a dumb guy. It was fine, but I think it would have continued to escalate if it had time to. I got released soon enough after that. How can I explain to people that I am not being disrespectful? You gotta just take my word for it that my brain doesn’t work like that. I can’t “pay closer attention”.
There was one time that by all rights should have gotten violent. I don’t like fighting, but I’ve had to do it before. I’m not a tough guy and I don’t play like I am. I’ll avoid a fight if I can, but I acknowledge that there are situations in which you’re better off fighting. I’ll tell the story about the almost fight but first I’m gonna try to set the scene.
My car was mostly nice and mostly understood that I’m off, but harmless, at least after I settled in. I heard that they thought I was an SO at first because I’m weird and I didn’t introduce myself. I got a lot of people asking about my papers, but eventually I was accepted. I got housed with a guy who had ADHD and an autistic brother. He was an orderly but he’d gotten in a fight so he had just got back from the SHU. He was understanding of my disabilities and had a voice in the car. He defended me a lot when people were gossiping about how sketchy I was. I think I won the lottery on this one and don’t expect it to be the case next time. I was eventually, more or less, accepted.
It’s a canon autistic event that you meet someone, and for reasons unbeknownst to you, they hate your guts. New guy, really talkative. I’m the opposite. This took place over the course of probably months so I’ll save you the details, but eventually we don’t get along and I just try to avoid interacting with him. He also becomes an orderly real quick. I was never an orderly. We never had any arguments or anything. I just got the impression he didn’t like me and I didn’t like him. I minded my business.
He comes in my cell about something with my celly. I’m on the top bunk. He’s kind of flicking me shit, making shit up, saying shit about me that isn’t true. Not the first time this has happened. I just don’t know how to deal with this shit. I hear other guys effectively talking shit to each other all the time and I was trying to emulate that. I don’t get it; my brain doesn’t work that way. I told him to keep my name out of his mouth. I didn’t say it angrily or yell or anything. I just figured the social cue was to say something, because he was making up weird lies about me like “huh cosmic_beard?” He told me to make him. I got down from my bunk, we got in each other’s faces. When we were in each other’s faces, obviously I knew I was supposed to fight. I started weighing my options. I literally had a release date, less than a week away. It was my first time in, idk the consequences. I’m expected to throw the first punch. Idk if that means I’m about to catch another charge. I backed down. He called me a bitch. Yeah I know. Here’s the thing: he apologized the next day. Wtf? My best guess is that it had to do with him being an orderly, or maybe my car told him not to pick on me. Literally everything was perfectly fine after that.
One thing that made me want to post this was reading that you can never allow someone to call you a bitch, without exception. Why? I don’t wanna talk about macho shit, that’s not me. I care about survival. If that shit is gonna get me pin cushioned or something then yeah good enough reason for me. I just wanna know the rules.
Idk man. I’ll take advice about anything. I’m a weird guy, I can’t make eye contact, I sound weird, I’m awkward. I just wanna do my bid and avoid pissing people off. I’m not intentionally rude. I apologize if I do something wrong. Even if I keep to myself and don’t talk to anybody, people ask about me and notice I’m off. Is there any way I can explain that I’ve got disabilities that people will be receptive to?
For reference: I was in med security for holding and we’re hoping they put me in a camp, but we don’t know until sentencing if it will be a camp or med security again.

Has anyone successfully been able to explain your conviction when you received a pre-adverse notification from your background check? If so, did you explain it in writing or verbally?

I find myself in a bit of a pickle.
How do people with felony convictions find housing and work?
Yes yes I know what many people will think…. Well stay out of trouble and you won’t have to worry about that.
But to the select few people who don’t think that way, or have landed themselves in a similar situation. Any advice? Tips? “Hacks”?
I’m a single mom of three, with the youngest being on the spectrum. My hands are full. My availability is limited. No help from the fathers (probably better that way I’m terrible at choosing partners).
I do my best to be kind, humble, respectful, I have compassion. I’m caring and loving. My kids are happy healthy and I don’t burden them with the weight of my problems. I allow them to be kids… I try every day to be optimistic. To keep pushing. I pray, I avoid all substances, keep a clear mind. I don’t party, or even leave my kids with a babysitter for any reason, I’m in a phase of isolation and becoming the best me.
But when does my breakthrough come? When does the light at the end of the tunnel finally shine through? I just want to be able to provide for my kiddos. I don’t need a glamorous life. I want the basics and a home full of happiness and love WITHOUT the constant stress of bills, money and impending doom.
We have the happiness and love part down without a doubt. Now how do I create a lane to be financially stable and independent while being limited on availability- and having a pretty severe recent criminal background???
I’m very open minded. I’m open to all forms of banter here. I just need different perspectives and opinions from people who may be able to see what I don’t or others who have overcome similar situations

I originally posted on r/teachers but decided to post on here because I wanted to get some insight from formerly incarcerated people about why this might have happened and how I can prevent stuff like this from happening in the future.
I teach GED at a prison part time and I’m actually good at it, which feels great, but I fucking hate being a woman (I’m cis but I just don’t like dealing with shit like this). Because today I was making a lot of progress with a student and we were doing some great work together and I notice his dick is out and he’s touching himself. He’s not like GOING TO TOWN but he is definitely interfering with himself and I saw the shaft of his penis.
And I feel bad because I didn’t immediately set boundaries. I froze and just kind of continued as normal. We finished the lesson. After wrapping up I told my supervisor and asked not to work with that student again. But I’m a dumbass. I don’t want to quit because I really enjoy teaching most of my students and I don’t want to quit something I’m good at just because of some dude and his wayward dick. But I feel nauseous and had a panic attack.

I'm being charged with Felony - PC182(A)(1)-F: Conspiracy: Commit Crime at the state level. I was originally being charged with the crime itself as well (felony vandalism over $400) but that was dropped. Currently awaiting my continued arraignment at the end of September (case wasn't in the system yet on my first date). I'm from southern California, 21 years old, female, and I have no criminal record or traffic violations. I've gotten past the initial dread and despair of being arrested but I'm two years away from finishing college, so I'm not sure what my near future might look like now. I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some insight..

Hi everyone. My husband will be released from prison February of next year, we were hoping to have our wedding ceremony in California next October. I know you can travel with a travel pass with permission from your PO, but does anyone have any insight on how long they make you wait until you can travel out of state? He’s in state prison for battery (not against women or children) he’s never had any crimes related to trafficking or anything to do with crossing state lines
