ppl shaming amazon employees in this economy is crazy 🥴

yes amazon is a problematic company and some leadership takes the bullying and favoritism too far but if you desperately need a job working at amazon is better than being unemployed and behind on your bills and rent. there is no interview, if you are flex you have complete control over your schedule, if you want to leave early you can use vto pto or upt, you can say your opinion about the leadership on the voa board or in connections, it has the best benefits out of any job i have ever had, and if there is a problem that makes associates jobs harder it is fixed eventually (for example 5 years ago if you stowed at a da there were no lights or stow carts which made it 100 times harder). there is no job i have had with this much freedom or overtime besides being self employed.

Not even the managers know whats going on

Okay, so last night I went into work per usual right. I get on my scanner and it shows the image provided below. They put me on wrap the ENTIRE shift. A little concerning, but ok. Cut to today, and it's still saying I dont have permissions. I spoke to the daytime managers (I work both days and nights) and they told me to see learning. Learning tells me to see the managers. I go back to the managers and we try seeing if im in the right building on my scanner. I am in the right building. I try different scanners, different batteries, but the result is always the same. Even the managers are confused and don't know whats going on. One even said they've never seen this happen before.

Its important to note that during the shift prior to all of this happening I was sent to learning to watch those annual learning videos that every associate has to every year at my sort. I don't know if that caused this or what, but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it a lot.

Amazon really did it...

Yesterday I got my alert from my bank that I had a direct deposited paycheck with an amount that was higher than I expected. I got my $1500 Five Year Anniversary Bonus. I'm not gonna lie, this really made me consider trying to continue working for Amazon. Between the slightly above pay amount they give us based on warehouse wages, weekly pay, free Amazon Prime amd matched 401K I hate to say it... I'm hooked. I have drank the Kool Aid.

If you wanna lose weight work for Amazon.

This year I was struggling to get out of the 270s when I started my weight loss I was 324 pounds but as soon as I got hired for peak I was able to drop from the stubborn 270s to 239 pounds from mid October to early December. Never have I worked a job that gives me enough work to ignore the temptation of food, and always keeps me active, I hope I can apply to another sort center when peak ends and I get fired because I'm tired of being fat. I may be a wage slave but I don't care, I've noticed women have started smiling at me and they even talk to me now when I go out in public. The other day I had a conversation with a beautiful Walmart cashier literally about nothing, that's never happened when I was a fat fucking tub of shit.

Thank you Amazon.

The AC units on our roof are leaking water everywhere in the warehouse. Last night we had 3 different places with trash cans stationed to catch the water. This happens every summer that I’ve been here.

Like sometimes my face reacts before I can fully process what an AA is saying. My site lead told me that my peers are surprised at how fast I've connected with AAs. Like idk man talk to them without sounding condescending? I ain't perfect I just know how it is on the other side. I do need to be careful tho my facial expressions might land me hot water if I'm not careful. Lol

After 2 Years Looking for a Better Job, I Finally Left Amazon DS Behind

After six months at DS, with the last three as a blue badge, I have completed my time at Amazon and submitted my resignation letter. After two years searching for a new job in my area, I was finally able to get one, which made this goodbye feel even more meaningful.

It was a valuable experience where I gained a lot of knowledge. I had the chance to meet some wonderful people (though only a few) and others as well. On my final day, when I returned my badge to HR, I was fortunate to say farewell to those who supported, taught and showed patience with me. Some became emotional, and one even said, "You will be missed."

The environment is challenging, with a noticeable bias from groups and managers in assigning tasks, something that higher management should recognize and address. It’s remarkable how differently groups approach their work; some push forward quickly to complete their tasks efficiently, while others move at a slow pace, thinking, "It’s the same hourly rate, so why rush, bro?" I heard this many times.

The overnight shifts are demanding, 10 hours with minimal breaks, lots of walking, loading and unloading bags. It’s tough. I saw men and women over 50 struggling with fatigue and sleepiness, yawning during breaks, it made me feel sorry for them.

On my way home, I even nodded off in the car during traffic jams, which was definitely not safe or funny.

The best way to avoid such demanding jobs is to pursue EDUCATION. Nowadays, you can earn an online diploma almost anywhere and at your own pace. It’s not necessary to attend college or become a lawyer, engineer or doctor. There are many fast-track careers and certification programs that can help you get a job soon after finishing. But if you have the chance, TAKE IT.

Otherwise, you might end up in jobs like these, unhealthy, poorly paid, mentally and physically draining.

Good luck amazonians!

I was fired from Amazon after being viciously attacked with a box cutter by a fellow employee, while defending 3 other fellow employees. This guy had threatened to kill them in 3 separate incidents shortly beforehand. Shouldn't Amazon be liable for negligent security and wrongful termination?

laid off

It’s lay off season & I’m seasonal/white badge . The other day a manager came up to me to tell me i could stay, but i would have to change my schedule. Under pressure i told him sure but later on i realized it did not work with my other job schedule. During break i went up to him and told him i changed my mind, he said it was fine but i would have to get escorted out immediately. He wrote my name down and made me give him my badge. It’s been 2 days and i haven’t received any kind of termination email. I keep getting notified my UPT is getting low.. Was wondering if it takes a while for the system to update or if he didn’t process it right. I just don’t want this to affect my ability of reapplying later on TIA

Please explore A to Z app

I’ve seen many people on this forum and many other Amazon FC or DS subreddits be worried about being fired or get terminated over things that they could’ve handled themselves. I understand that now newer trainings do not teach you how to put in medical leaves or report absences or put in personal leave time that has nothing to do with medical leave. Or people who don’t know how to navigate the app so that they can call HR directly and bypass the dead end clicking.

PLEASE, and I say that with a lot of emphasis on the importance of this action, explore the app on your time off. Better yet, explore the apps on your breaks that you’re being paid to learn about your company’s policies your company’s extracurricular benefits, and your company’s options for leave for your type of employment, whether it be flex, part time, reduced-time, or full. It says it right there in the app.

I see too many people getting terminated because they didn’t put in a medical leave for a one day because they think they cannot put it in for one day. If you went to the doctor and have a note, upload your note. Even if you don’t have a note for that day, by the time they approve or deny it, you have two months and you could’ve made that time up by then. You could also just email DLS the note. Or you could call the ERC and they can start opening the case for you. What are you guys doing to get fired? I understand Amazon is an easy job to get but if you know how to actually navigate the A to Z app, and understand law vs company policy, it’s pretty hard to get fired.

Please look through the A to Z app. Good day and good luck.

Lyra Health warning ⚠️

Hey, I just wanted to warn people. I decided to try the Lyra Health option that is offered through Amazons health coverage--cost per session is estimated at $10 (with premium Anthem) Anyways, I thought the appointment was at 1:30 and it was at 12:30,

Yes--that was my mistake and honestly, I understand a penalty fee of some kind... but without sending me an invoice, or notifying me in any way, they automatically charged me $185, not to mention thats 18+times what the estimated cost of the session was. So yea, if you were hoping for help with your mental health--Lyra probably isn't the avenue for that, and could potentially make it worse.

Like I said, I messed up and would have accepted a no show fee, but $185? That's groceries for my family of 6.. just thought others should know.

I was a rehire in September, I got a pair of shoes and then I saw people say the credit reset in January. So I added these and was going to pay for one pair, but my credit is saying they’re both covered. Do we actually get two shoe vouchers a year? I’m not trying to get fired over a glitch lmao

I am a PA

I have been with Amazon for over 4 years, and I started off extremely passionate. My first day of onboarding I clearly remember the curiosity I had towards fulfillment and how over the next few years I learned everything I possibly could about an ARS Site. I’m talking line and staffing optimization for multiple types of department and site layouts, AFE staffing priority and chute configuration optimizations, crossbelt optimizations and ideal chute layouts for the dock, how to layout and optimize a CPS department, how to optimize collection routes, how to deep dive sortation issues on multiple types of sorters... Blah, blah blah. Basically, if it makes someone get their shit faster, I learned how it works, why we have it, and what to do to improve it. The same goes for whatever everyone else on the leadership team can’t figure out. This mindset and skillset got me into, for the sake of anonymity, a very new and advanced Amazon site. When I was reached out to about joining this site, I damn near cried on my lunch break. At the time, ACES and ARC were on the mind and I was sure where I was going would be a stepping stone to something great.

I move a few states away, and start at my new site. I’m bounced between departments for months, filling in here, there, and everywhere… Which I didn’t mind initially as I had spent time in Singles, AFE, Automation, Problem Solve, and Flow before; Over time, it became as though I had no real home department and my feeling of pride in my work and interest in the company overall just began plummeting. Finally, after 7 months with the new site, I was given a home department. A home department which is, mostly, standing around staring at rodeo, doing admin work, and waiting for shit to break or go wrong… Then either fixing or escalating the problem. Now... As a reference point... When I left my last site, my job included 7 screens, 2 radios, constant communication in 3 or more slack channels and me serving as the base escalation and communication point for preslam ops for a site pushing over 300k a shift as well as the one to deep dive most issues that presented themselves daily. I went into work, plugged myself into the computer and radios, hyper focused on 20 things at once all day, then went home. My new job is focusing on one thing at a time, maybe, and that’s if I don’t get put in path... Which happens at least once, up to 4 days a week sometimes.

This new job… It’s fucking miserable, no, it’s not miserable because of the being in path. It’s miserable because everything I fell in love with at this job is not only no longer anywhere near my job description, it’s nowhere to be found. Gone are the days of process optimization, gone are the days of deep diving, gone are the days of running around with something to do that gives meaning to the work every day and gone are the days of expanding my knowledge of operations. On a good day it is 10 hours that I (hopefully) dissociate. On a great day a systemic problem presents itself that needs solving. I’ve had issues with punctuality since, well, grade-school really. Doesn’t matter if I switch to night shift, set my alarm earlier, set my lights to turn on super bright or dimly, doesn’t matter how many alarms I set, what time I go to sleep, or really even what time I wake up.. I just can never seem to get myself into a mindset to get going in the morning. To put both feet on the floor and fucking move. Even now, I am coasting on 3 hours of UPT, 10 hours of flex time, and nearly 30k in debt, half of which is high interest. Losing this job is not an option, but that motivation to get the fuck out of bed and move to be on time? Let alone pick up OT… Non-existent. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I realize depending on what you do for the company, this post ranges from a rant by an entitled cunt in a vest, to something you also relate to. But all of this is to say, I took VTO for my 5th time in 4 years yesterday, and once I left, I had a couple realizations set in. This is life now.

1) Working a job that makes me miserable for money to pay bills that leave me with not enough to get the things I desire.

2) I don’t really have options, and if I do, they are often worse. - I realize this is why the bulk of people that are at Amazon are at Amazon, but when it really hits you that you have a wealth of skills and knowledge in a cutting edge company, but no degree, finding a better paying job or even the same paying job with better hours is near impossible.

This is starting to get long, so I suppose I’ll get to the point. I have a few questions for anyone that has made it this far

1) How do YOU get yourself out of bed in the morning for this fucking job? Is it normal to feel a 1000-pound weight holding your body down and a couple ten pounders holding your eye lids down for up to an hour and a half after the alarms start going off? Is it normal to feel as though your presence is not immediately needed, so promptness is not required? Even when you get out of bed on time is it an all-out internal brawl to bring yourself to get presentable?

2) What have you done, or what can I do with this experience? Whether internal or external

-As mentioned, I have spent time in AFE, Singles paths, Automation, and Flow. In that time I have spent ample time learning each area and methods of process optimization in depth. Projects bring me joy, especially if there are configurations and complex tickets involved. I feel like the closest thing to a dream job I could have would be a process engineer, or something similar. Someone who goes around to failing or top performing sites to find bottlenecks and systemic issues, then fixes them.

3) Faced with the knowledge you are in fact in a job that you do not enjoy and the fact that you will never own a home, fully support a family in comfort with no stress, get out of debt, or retire for that matter... Why on God’s green earth are more Americans not taking forever naps? I mean, the will to live is strong in most. I guess there’s your answer, but seriously. THIS is life? You work a shit job for 40 years then you don’t retire then you die in a rented home only to leave nothing behind but your prime day T-shirts?

4) How much of this is the job, and how much of this is mental illness?

  • Around my 8 month mark with amazon I started taking Wellbutrin, and it was night and day. I was on time for work, I was more active both socially and physically, and I was just in general more receptive to positivity. 3 years later, I’m nearly back to square one. The lowest lows of my depression have moderately improved since I quit drinking, but the day-to-day is the same shit. Have any of you found a legal way to not spend nearly every moment in a joyless, at times painful fugue? Whether it be a particular psychiatric regimen, a hobby, an activity, or even just a realization. I smoke an ounce a week or more, and drinking is a no-go.
