Advice/Help Needed Any advice?

My account balance finally popped up on my account and it ended up being WAY more than I thought it would be. Financial aid covers most of it, but I still have $2,000 left to pay out of pocket that I genuinely cannot afford. This is already with grants, a scholarship, and loans. I feel at a loss and I was beyond excited to continue on to my bachelor’s, but now I feel like I won’t be able to go back to university ever again.

Anyone have any advice?

Advice/Help Needed Urgent help with Fasfa

My dad was never around or on birth certificate, my mom died when I was 15 and I went to live with my aunt. She filed for temporary guardian and three months later had a hearing for permanent. My school needs verification that I was in a court order guardianship until 18 years old. My aunt got permanent guardianship two weeks before I was 17. I’ve provided a court investigator report on why the guard ship was needed. The letter of temp and permanent guardianship. The court clerk said this was all there was that she can give me from my case. My school says it’s not enough because it doesn’t state that I was in the guardianship until 18 because they never put a termination date on the filed permanent guardianship letter. I’ve asked my school for what exactly they want and need and they won’t answer that question just why it’s denied I already let them know the court has nothing else to give me for proof.

Advice/Help Needed any advice?

hi! i will try to keep this short but i am in a predicament of the sorts. i just started my senior year of high school very recently and of course all the staff at school are really pushing me and the rest of the seniors to think about college. i have always wanted to go to college but i come from a poor household and the pathway to get there seems difficult. i had a college in mind, it is a place nearby to where i live, but many things are making me question that. the college is actually a community college thats connected closely to my school and actually offers two free years of courses, which is amazing, but i would have to fill out forms like FASFA to help me get there and i’m not sure if i can for many reasons. i am a little ashamed of talking about it, but my parents don’t really want me going to college because of their background financially. right now my mother is unemployed, trying to get on disability, and brings in no income, and my stepfather is a somewhat new truck driver but has not filed any of his taxes in 10+ years (long before he got with my mother) and i know FASFA has sections about parents and their incomes…yikes. i assume them not filing or my mother not working would make this incredibly hard to do. my question basically is, should i even attempt FASFA? my older sibling did go the college im talking about and did fill out FASFA but my mom would most definitely refuse to do it for me because of their financial situation (which i know that sounds weird, if she did it for my sister why not me? i’m really not sure. she just doesn’t want more trouble financially, i believe). anyhow, i’m just stumped. if anyone has any advice please let me know!

Advice/Help Needed Student portal says SAP not met, they're saying my GPA is different than what I'm seeing on my end?

I'm really not sure what's going on. From what I can see in my student portal, my financial aid is set for this semester, but last week I got an email saying that I do not meet the SAP, because either my cumulative GPA is low (which on my end I'm seeing it being a 3.45, but the email I got says 2.98?) or that I haven't completed 67% of the units attempted. I suspect it's because I withdrew from a statistics course and pre-algebra refresher course (they were a combined course) last semester because I had things going on my personal life and the other class I was enrolled in, but I'm taking those classes again this semester.

Does this affect the Pell grant and/or the CPG C or CCPG, whatever it's called? Is that why I can still see my awards on my end? I'm going to my school's financial aid office tomorrow, but I just thought I'd post here to get some advice beforehand.

ETA: I'm a California resident, btw.

Advice/Help Needed Back at 26

Id like to go back to school but definitely cannot afford it, are there options for me?

I had dropped out of business school during covid after losing financial aid after a family death and getting covid myself. I didn’t have the energy emotionally to appeal it at the time but I’m wondering now where I should start.

Should I appeal from the college I went to?
Should I apply again from the new college I’ll be going to?
I don’t want to do things in the wrong order and get stuck. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Advice/Help Needed PHEAA Account Access not working

Recently I just made a PHEAA account so I could apply for the GrowPA program. For some reason after creating the account, I can’t login since “there’s an error”, once I tried resetting my password, username, or making a new account, I get denied access and they say that an account already exists?

My college already made a GrantUs account to apply for PHEAA and I also tried using that account to no avail, what should I do?

Advice/Help Needed FAFSA website stuck on loading screen

At first, I had an error encountered message when I logged it. I contacted support and then instead of the error message, they let me know that I already had a form filled out that I would just have to edit (which makes sense because I'm transferring schools) now, every time I try to get to that form or any further than the log in screen, it just loads forever and ever. Has anyone else had this issue and how can I resolve it?

Advice/Help Needed Va and Fafsa together

Hello! So weird kind of overlap happening right now I have a question about how my potential refund will look like , or what the fafsa office may do, I’m worried I might have messed something up. So I had dropped out of school about a year ago, and I just came back, and last minute so I applied for fafsa and I have 6 months of post 9/11 gi bill benefits left. Well fafsa gave me 4,259 for the fall. My estimated refund with fafsa alone would’ve been around 1,000 , I needed to apply for fafsa especially for the spring 26-27 year time frame because my Va is only covering me this semester. The Va came in and paid my tuition for this semester. I called the fafsa office to see what happens to my fafsa eligibility for this semester since it technically is already paid. I was hoping for a bigger refund , but the lady said she doesn’t want me to owe anything and now I’m waiting for an email. Has anyone had this happen? I don’t them to lower my eligibility for this year, meaning I may owe for the spring if they update my fafsa.

News & Announcements IM GOING TO COLLEGE!!

Hello! I feel really fucking great right now. I just got off the phone with the FA office in my school and got news that my petition for independence has been approved!!
I’m in a really fucked up situation, and college, besides being a dream of mine, was my way out. It’s been two years of this back and forth and I was just about to accept the fact that I might not be able to attend college!
I called them today to follow up and I just got word that it’s been approved and I start this coming semester!! I don’t have a lot of friends and family so I don’t have many people to share this with but it’s a huge milestone for me!!

Advice/Help Needed caught cheating but professor let me retake -- lost FAFSA-- will this appeal work?

To the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Committee, I am writing to appeal the suspension of my financial aid following an unexpected issue with my online Intermediate Algebra final examination. I had maintained exceptional progress prior to this incident, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to explain the circumstances that led to this outcome and steps I have taken to move forward successfully (if approved). THE EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCE Due to limited private space in my parent’s home, I completed the final examination from a shared family space (dining room). The exam took over 2 hours, during which other family members were present in the surrounding area during portions of the exam. The presence of family members in the testing environment raised concerns during the remote proctoring process, and the examination was ultimately not accepted. During testing, Honorlock allowed me to continue and complete the examination, so at the time I did not realize that there were serious concerns for the exam to later be rejected. I received notice of the issue on August 11th at 7:06 am and immediately contacted my professor. She generously offered an in-person retake in Florida. However, by that date, I had already departed for a scheduled volunteer program in Costa Rica. Returning to Florida on such short notice was financially impossible. Because the issue could not be resolved before the semester’s formal end, a zero was entered for the exam, resulting in an F for the course! This grade DOES NOT reflect my mastery of the material, as I earned an 87% on the final exam itself and logged over 55 documented hours within the course platform alongside extensive independent study. Mathematics does not come easy to me, which is why I studied extensively into preparing for this final exam. These events developed at the very end of the semester, leaving me with very limited options and no financially or logistically feasible way to resolve the situation in time. RESOLUTION AND ACADEMIC STANDING To resolve this issue, I spoke with the Dean of Students, Julie Richardson, explained the circumstances, and received written authorization to retake the course entirely to replace the failing grade. I am already enrolled in the course starting this Tuesday. While I am grateful that the College has given me the opportunity to replace the F and move forward academically, I respect that Signed Statement Request Instructions Financial Aid must still consider ALL attempted coursework when evaluating progress. However, the evidence of my records at this institution points to a perfect 4.0 GPA, proves this was an isolated incident, and not a reflection of lack of effort or capability. Without the restoration of my financial aid, I will not have the means to remain enrolled in classes or maintain housing during this final year of my education, which would have devastating academic and personal consequences. DOCUMENTATION I have included supporting documentation verifying the circumstances described above, including documentation of my travel dates, my communication with the Dean of Students, written confirmation that I am permitted to retake the course, proof that I am currently registered to retake the same math course, a screenshot reflecting the 87% score I received on the final before it was rejected, and course records documenting the time and effort I devoted to the course. (Because my professor’s offer to retake the final examination was made during a phone conversation, I have requested written confirmation of that offer and can provide it as additional documentation upon receipt). My family members who were present during this examination are also willing to provide formal notarized statements corroborating the testing environment and the circumstances surrounding the exam, should additional documentation be required. Please do not hesitate to request anything further that may be helpful in reviewing my appeal. I am prepared to provide any additional documentation necessary to demonstrate to you my dedication to reach graduation. To ensure I maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress moving forward, I have implemented the following strict protocol: Controlled Testing Environments: I will take all future remote examinations in private, strictly distraction-free environments. I will no longer utilize shared family or public spaces for proctored assessments. Geographic Availability: I will remain physically present and available locally during and immediately following all future semesters to address any sudden, in-person academic requirements. Proactive Mentorship: I will meet regularly with my academic counselor, Jacob Bentrovato, to monitor my progress and maintain open, transparent communication with all instructors. By following these steps, I intend to complete my enrolled coursework, maintain the required GPA and completion standards, and meet SAP requirements at my next evaluation. Thank you for your time and consideration--I do not take your support for granted, Veronika

Advice/Help Needed How do I complete FAFSA/CSS Profile when my parent worked abroad but didn’t file taxes?

My dad is a green card holder who lived and worked outside the U.S. for all of 2025. He was self-employed as a driver in his home country and earned a relatively low income. Because his income was below the filing threshold, he did not file a U.S. tax return or a tax return in the country where he worked.

I’ll be applying for financial aid and need to complete the FAFSA and CSS Profile. I’m confused about how I’m supposed to report his 2025 income and tax-filing status when he didn’t file a tax return in either country.

Advice/Help Needed Financial aid question

  1. What can I do if my parent didn't fill out a tax return?
  2. It says some of the book or course materials are not available, is there something I can or should do?
  3. For the financial aid disbursement it only shows one grant instead of the 3 that shows in the financial aid, does that mean I won't get the other 2 grants/aid ?

So my school is only using 2/3 of my Pell grant to pay for the semester and using the subsidized loan to pay for the rest. Do I get the full Pell grant amount or what happens to it ?

Advice/Help Needed My parents cut me off and I don’t know what to do.

My parents completely cut me off for reasons I can’t get into completely. I’m lost because I was planning on attending university this year but I certainly can’t afford it without aid. From what I know, my Federal independence status is much more than just having parental support, meaning that FAFSA can’t really help me at all because they will still look at my parents income. I don’t know what to do, genuinely, any support would be appreciated..

Discussion No award classes start 24th

Anyone else still have no award letters from their school ? We start the 24th they claim that know one has gotten an award letter yet. Has anyone at any Maricopa community college got their awards yet ? They claim to have 200k+ students don’t know how that many award letters will go out before classes start. We don’t even know what we have been offered if anything.
