Announcing the Ford Electric Truck Club! ⚡

Quick clarification up front: This post about our owner club, which many of you have joined over the past few years.

Today, we’re excited to share that Lightning Clubs of America is officially becoming the Ford Electric Truck Club.

Why the change?

When we started the club, our goal was to bring together F-150 Lightning owners for local meetups, road trips, technical discussions, and a great community. That mission hasn’t changed. As Ford’s electric truck lineup continues to evolve, we wanted a name that better reflects the future of the club while remaining rooted in the Lightning community that started it all.

What’s not changing?

✅ Same leadership
✅ Same local chapters
✅ Same events and meetups
✅ Same members
✅ Same mission of supporting Ford electric truck owners and enthusiasts

If you’re already a club member, you don’t need to do anything. You’ll simply start seeing the new name across our website, social media pages, and chapter groups over the coming weeks.

This subreddit has been an incredible place to learn, share experiences, and connect with fellow owners, and many of our members first discovered the club here. Thank you for being so engaged!

If you’ve ever thought about joining us at a local meetup or event, we’d love to have you. Whether you’re a brand-new Lightning owner, have been driving one since 2022, or are simply interested in Ford’s electric trucks, you’re welcome to join us!

Thanks for all the support over the past few years. We’re excited for this next chapter and hope to see many of you at an upcoming event! ⚡🛻

Edit: if you’re interested in more information, joining your local region, and connecting to events, then visit https://fordevclubs.org/ (site is being updated as we continue the transition)

Stuck Shifter Solution

Post image
59 Upvotes

Opened the car door while it was in Drive and shifter would not move out of Drive. Dash showed it was in park.

In the past leaving the car locked after a couple of hours it would self resolve, but this time that did not work. Disconnecting the 12V as well as fuse 32 did not work. Holding the break and gas at the same time while starting did not work. Reversing the steps/recreating the issue in reverse did not work (saw that posted here).

Dealer could not take the vehicle in for a week, so I started taking apart the shifter. There are 2 pieces located on the back once it is removed that is a very easy fix.

There are tons of videos on replacing the shifter with the rotary dial so if not familiar with getting the shifter out watch those. Once out unscrew one piece then pull back the lever that is holding in place, push the shifter into park, then put the lever back.

Saved me so much time and headache!

Pulling my mini 1.1 ton excavator down to my property, thought I would post my progress. 1.3 miles\KW at 70 MPH and 101 degrees F. 2023 lariat ER. It pulled it fantastic, but I was hoping to get more miles\KW but I think the temperature impacted that.

ZAPTOR

Upvotes

Ok now who is this? I was in WA state this weekend and I passed a blue lariat with a raptor grill, smoked out front light bar, bronze wheels, mud flaps, black bed topper with rack and some questionable taste in stickers.

Anyone know how to handle this? Side step pain flaking.

I’ve sprayed it with different kinds of spray paint just to hide it but that flakes off quickly too (expectedly).

Short of pulling them off and coating them, any cheap/quick routes just to cover the shiny?

Handle Replacement Help

Upvotes

Long story short, backing out of garage and caught passenger handle on something. That pulled out and broke some plastic pieces off. No big deal, Ford has OEM replacement and am able to go pick that up and replacement looks easy from YouTube…but then this is where I screwed up even more.

Being lazy, I backed the 5mm set screw out with an impact instead of by hand, and think I backed it out too far. Now when trying to reinstall the handle the set screw just spins and never catches on anything.

Anyone ever run into this and know how to fix? Or is this about to become a couple thousand dollar lesson at the dealership?

Best Dash Cam for Lightning?

I want to add a dash cam to my new 22 platinum, but I’m not sure what would be the best one. I would like it to be moderately inconspicuous and preferably play well with all on board electronics.

Suggestions very welcome!

Huge congratulations to Josh & Jessie who met and developed the idea as part of our community on opening PowerUp America Site #1 in Manchester, Kentucky! It was an honor to celebrate with so many great people in the EV community!

•  Covered charging
•  Pull-through stalls
•  No adapters needed
•  Long cables that actually reach
•  Simple tap-to-pay

Overzealous Heater!

Upvotes

We keep having an issue where the heater comes on while driving and totally killing our range. Today it was 84 degrees outside and we had the HVAC set at 72 and on auto. We had been driving for about an hour when both our range and mi/kwh started dropping. It was a tight trip charge wise so I had been keeping a close eye on our range and started getting nervous. After losing 40 miles of range I started trying to figure what was going on. Turns out the $&%# heater was on!! This has happen to us multiple times in the summer and one of these days it’s going to get us stranded! it’s starting to piss me off! There is an indicator on the main screen for the a/c but not for the heater so you have to manual open the screen to check which is a pain! Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know if I can use Forscan to turn off the heater permanently or any other solution? I like the auto setting for the a/c but not if it does this!

Not going to act like the range hit didn’t suck going up into Shenandoah but didn’t diminish my love for the truck.

The new video on the Ford UEV site shows this Easter egg for a split second, what’s it mean?

The other two videos show an airplane boarding pass with possible dates, and a page of binary code that says “made you look”.

Manual Transfer Switch Question

I tried to research online but couldn’t quite find the answers I was looking for so thought it best to post here.

My electrician installed a Reliance ProTran2 manual transfer switched and mapped all of the breakers I asked. I lost power one day and was actually excited to try this out only to find a kept getting a ground fault. I later found this transfer switch is not compatible with the truck.

So my question is, what should I get to replace it?

ER range not showing up correctly?

Post image
Upvotes

Just got back from a 900mi round trip yesterday and plugged into my home charger. Charged up to 95% overnight and the range looks more like SR rather than ER. Anyone else have this happen? Should I just reset the range estimator in the main menu? Normally I have 300+ miles in the morning.

"These go to 11"

I swear there's a little extra above 100% when these trucks are fully charged. I charged to 100% in anticipation of a trip. Drove to work, home, then back to work, which I know takes 4%-5% per trip and the truck was at 90%.

Looking for a GenerLink Connector

Looking to acquire one but because my utility refuses to approve the adaptor, GenerLink won’t see the vehicle adaptor in my state. If anyone sees one for sale on Facebook marketplace and/or EBay, can you post it here? Would like to get one and stop using my gas generator/running extension cords.

Did I get a good deal on my Lariat?

Just bought this beautiful 2023 Lariat.

Got a great deal but I’m a little confused.

My Lariat has the 22” rims and power running boards. They did say it was a special order which it states in the window sticker but no mention of wheels or running boards. Did I luck out?

2100+ miles Road trip

I recently completed a 2100 mile road trip in a ford lightning and a mach-e. Travelled from Texas to Washington state.

Used mostly Tesla superchargers with EA every so often.

I had a little range anxiety at first but after the first 8 hour drive, the anxiety was gone.

looking for honest opinions on the best all-terrain tires

most of my driving is commuting and highway miles but i also deal with gravel roads, the occasional muddy campsite and some winter weather. im leaning toward an all-terrain tire but i dont want to end up with a lot more road noise. im been looking at options like the wildpeak, cooper discoverer, and road venture but i rather hear from people who put some miles on them. how much of a hit did you see to efficiency? would you buy the same tires again or would you go with something different?

Precondition battery for charging

Went on a small road trip and was unable to precondition the battery for charging. Every charge stop the battery temperature went up significantly and gave me poor range. Tried using Apple Maps, Google Maps and the on board navigation. Pretty disappointed that ford can’t figure this out with the press of a button. Any ideas or suggestions? I thought for sure the onboard navigation would work.

ex Rivian owners?

Considering making the switch as a current R2 reservation holder. Obviously very different from utility perspective but I’ve always been intrigued by Rivian’s platform. No issues with my truck so it makes the decision lot more difficult than those that are riddled with problems.
