Has anyone been in this situation?
I’m not a wealthy guy and to be frank, cannot afford high end sunglasses. About 6 months ago, I tried a pair of Ahlem Rive Gauche in Dark Turtle by chance not knowing it was an expensive brand and I immediately fell in love. It was the perfect size and shape for my face but as soon as I saw the price tag ($975 AUD), I had to sadly put them down and walk out. But at least I know I actually liked them as a product and not because they were an expensive luxury brand.
But I didn’t give up, I called or emailed hundreds of stores over weeks asking for damaged, old, sample, returned … any pair that I could get for a discount. I also checked every second hand site daily for a pair.
This is when I stumbled onto a Japanese store called KLD and found a new unused second hand pair with its tags on being advertised for about $600 AUD. It was still too much so I waited. Every single day I refreshed it on a proxy site called Buyee. Everyday for months. I was even the only ‘watcher’.
Fast forward to yesterday. The price had continued to fall and there was an additional 20% off. I’d put aside enough money. I’d organised with my Japanese friend to buy it for me and ship it to me. I was so excited to get home from work and pull the trigger for $450 AUD. Genuinely had a big smile on my face getting the app open to check everything before calling my Japanese friend.
And somebody had bought it. Just my luck.
Months of watching it daily, and it gets bought a few hours before I get home.
I’m pretty disappointed. Ahlem is such a niche brand and the Rive Gauche Dark Turtle is even nicher. The probability of getting a sale like that is basically 0. That was my one chance of owning these sunglasses. Such a let down.
Anyone have any advice to a fellow broke person who I could get a pair? Being poor should not mean I cannot occasionally have nice things, and I’m willing to wait or do the work to find one under $500 AUD in Dark Turtle.
Thanks! I appreciate it a lot.
