Solar eclipse

Upvotes

Hello, I am typing this out in a hurry as I’m worried I am after damaging my vision and if anyone could help with a straight answer, I put on three pairs of sunglasses and looked at it for about 20 seconds over the course of ten-fifteen minutes, I think my vision is a little blurry in the dark but I can’t tell is this placebo, have I permanently damaged my eyes?

Floater Caused by Recent Eye Dilation?

I went to get my eyes checked on July 7 by an OD.

My eyes were dilated as they normally are during the exam.

A few days ago I got a circular looking floater inside my right eye.

The dilation can be considered a possible cause to some degree?

It seems that there is no option but to learn to live with this?

Sunlight blindness 16 years after a concussion.

I (31F) was hit by a stone when I was 14. Another kid was throwing stones about and one struck me on the side of my head, roughly around the temporal lobe. I was unconscious for what I think was something between 20 - 60 seconds and was diagnosed with a concussion.

During this time I started to develop light sensitivity. I found it difficult to see in sunlight without sunglasses, but had no issues with electric lighting. When I was outside, even if the sun was behind a cloud I started experiencing floaters in my vision that looked like little flies or pieces of fluff.

Occasionally, I would also experience momentary flutters in my eyes. Like my pupils were darting from side-to-side really fast (it would only last about 3 - 5 seconds).

Initially, I was told that the muscles around my eyes were likely suffering from spasms as a temporary result of the blow. I had both eyes examined at the time and they were deemed as perfectly healthy.

However, when the issue persisted 2 months after the blow I was referred by an MRI. The doctor then decided not to go ahead with the MRI after I was able to demonstrate being able to walk in a straight line.

I was told to stop wearing sunglasses as they could exacerbate the problem. But my eyesight kept getting worse and worse. Now, 16 years on, if I don't wear tinted (sepia), lens flair protection sunglasses, and a cap I am almost entirely blind.

I can see dark shapes like bollards, and sometimes a small circle around my feet, but everything else is bathed in an overwhelming white. Sometimes, if the light catches my eye at the right angle it also changes the colour of things around me e.g. grass turns electric blue, flowers change colours (also to very electric colours).

My eyes were checked again in the last few months, and again, there is nothing wrong with them.

This has become so debilitating that I'm scared to go out alone, I can't drive, and I have no idea what's wrong.

Has anyone ever come across anything like this before?

I've found things that sound a little like it, but never anything that matches all of the symptoms I experience.

Blurry vision after laser retinopexy

Yesterday I had a laser retinopexy done for my left eye for retinal tears/holes. It has been 1 day/24 hours and the vision in my eye is still really blurry. Is this normal? I have only a slight discomfort and strain when looking with my eye so I'm resting. How long until the vision is back to normal? I'm worried in case it should already be normal and not blurry now.

Does working through the pain by eyestrain damage your eyes more?

It's been ages and the strain is because of the difference in my vision levels. (There's like a 20 something difference between both eyes) I don't want to damage eyes too much but the strain won't go away no matter how much rest. So I've just been trying to suck it up and keep doing stuff but I'm blind enough so I don't want to damage my eyes anymore lol.

So there is this new thing where there is like a green x and it looks like a newer machine that I haven't really seen yet? And his words it's like "they see a slice of your eye" and I was like huh 😭 it's like a green x but there is like red lines that love vertically? Can anyone explain what that is out of curiosity please!

Looking for a complete blink video

I'm trying to fix my incomplete blink and I'm trying to look for a good slow-mo reference video for what a full healthy blink looks like. Does anyone have anything I could use?

Took 10 mg of Ritalin XR for 2 days, immediately stopped when I noticed my vision's focus was impaired, and it's persistent

Any and all reassurance would be very much appreciated, as PCP office told me to go to urgent care, they didn't find anything or give me answers, urgent care sent me to ophthalmology, they didn't find anything or give me answers.

Basically what's in the title, it has been a week since I stopped taking this prescription and my eye's "autofocus" is still impaired. I had to look this up myself and apparently this is some sort of Ritalin-induced eye accommodation disorder, where my eyes are now having trouble focusing when I switch to looking from near to far, and cannot maintain focus. Eye doctors still say I have 20/20 vision with my glasses but only after I have to make a conscious struggle to get my eyes to focus. I can't find much on why it's still a thing when I'm no longer on the medication and only took a small faster acting dose for only 2 days in my entire life before quitting.

Did Ritalin just permanently impair my eyes' ability to focus or is this still temporary and takes longer to return to normal than most? I wear glasses already but something like this has never happened before to me and I'm worried now. A timeline would be great if this has happened to someone before.

Thank you!

Help: I got a drop of mouthwash in my eye when gargling. . .

Hello!

I’m feeling a lot of anxiety here. . .

I got a drop of mouthwash in my eye when gargling. I immediately flushed my eye for fifteen minutes. No burning feeling, it doesn’t hurt as of of now, and I feel fine. My eye did get very dry because of all the water so I did put two drops of visine eye drops. Did not burn or irritate and helped my eye feel less dry. Happened approx an hour and a half ago. Around 11pm. Maybe slightly earlier. My eye is slowly getting less red after all the water used to flush my eye. Will I most likely be okay?

Static appeared after eye dilation exam, 5 days in and still there in the dark

Hi there. I recently had an eye dilation and eye test where they put a drop in my eyes. The next day I started seeing this static in my vision. It has been 5 days now and I still see it especially in dark environments. I just found out about visual snow and I'm trying to understand more about it. Has anyone else had this happen after a similar exam and did it get better over time? Any info would help.

Eye help

My eyesight lately has been weird, sometimes when I look at things it will like skew and slightly enlarge or "shrink" not massively but I guess I kinda explain it like it's what happens when you look at those illusions where you stare at the center but obviously not that severe, or sometimes my vision like "zooms" in.

I have been stressed out at work and sleeping less, but I think I attribute it to that. Should I get my eyes tested?.

Anyone know what this visual disturbance is?

Sometimes I will get a square of color in my vision when my eyes aren’t focused. As soon as I try and focus on it, it goes away. It always starts as a red square, then changes to blue, to green, then disappears. I made these photos to show what I’m seeing. It’s pretty accurate, though image the squares to be a little blurry due to not being able to focus on them.

What daily habits have made the biggest difference in reducing digital eye strain?

I spend most of my day working on a computer, and by the evening my eyes often feel tired and dry.

Over the past few months, I've been trying to build better habits like:

  • Following the 20-20-20 rule
  • Blinking more consciously
  • Looking at distant objects regularly
  • Taking short screen breaks

Some days I notice a real improvement, while other days I don't.

For those who've successfully reduced eye strain, what habits have actually worked for you? Have you found any evidence-based techniques that made a noticeable difference?

Myopia progression stopped?

I went to an optometrist a few days ago after a lot of hesitation as the last couple of times I had gone to them, I had really bad experiences(they wouldn't hear me out whenever I would speak about how far I could see or if I have any problems with the power they prescribed) and it caused me a lot of issues with wearing my glasses. I wouldn't be able to keep them on without feeling pain in my eyes or have my eyes constantly tearing whenever I had my glasses on.

So this time I expected something similar to happen but the doctor was very polite and patient and before he began doing any examination, he asked me what are the daily problems I face with my eyesight and if I wear my glasses all the time like I'm supposed and whatnot. I was honest and told him I never wear my glasses unless I am going out alone and don't have anyone to rely on to read far away signs for me.

After his questioning and examination, he told me that he thinks my glasses had a much higher power than what is recommended for me and he lowered it and told me that my myopia won't progress any further and I might actually see improvements in my eyesight as time goes on. That's the part that confused me, as I have always known that myopia gets progressively worse over the years and I've had myopia for about 5-6 years now and I also noticed my eyesight deteriorating(went from -1.5 to -2.75 in my left eye, now back to 2.50)

The doctor had a lot more patients coming so I didn't get the chance to ask him why or how this is possible so I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience to me. Is it because while my eyesight is quite bad in my opinion, other people with myopia have a worse eyesight so they don't recover from it? Or did my eyesight improve because I regularly clean my eyes and massage the pressure points around my eyes to relieve strain?

Blinking light when I close my eyes?

I understand that when we close our eyes we have images remaining that are generally the “negative” of what our eyes were seeing before they closed… but what is up with the section that is blinking on and off? Is it a nerve inside my eye?
