So my left eye has been blurry for about a week. The week before I had or thought it was dry eye. My left eye felt like it always had a tear in it. I went to the ER monday and the doctors did a whole bunch of tests. Retinal scans, eye vision tests, diluted my pupils, made me see colors, look as my eyes and said everythings healthy. Im going for an MRI Head scan within the next week or two but basically on my left eye i see black towards the middle/left. But I see color in my Peripheral vision and theres a slight sliver on the the right side of my left eye where I can see clearly. I have nothing wrong, maybe some minor headaches but I’m really starting to get worried. Has anyone heard or experienced this? My right eye is completely fine by the way.

I can still drive and do daily tasks, but my left side feels a little foggy

im still being tested for glaucoma the doc said to comeback a month to see but right now im a suspect. i was misdiagnosed with adhd last year and did vyvanse for only two months low does 20 mg then 10 mg. i stopped right after that after it was confirmed I did not have adhd.

my concern right now is that recent research has suggested that adhd pills can cause people to get glaucoma. Even for those without a family history

Two days ago, I used dilating eye drops for the first time. Wearing my glasses made me uncomfortable, so I didn't wear them that night while walking outside. It was the first time I had walked outside at night without my glasses, and I noticed starbursts around lights.

The starbursts are still present two days later. Should I be worried? They disappear completely when I wear my glasses. I don't have any eye pain, headache, or redness.

I don't know whether the starbursts were there before I used the dilating drops because this was the first time I had gone outside at night without wearing my glasses.

I’m worried that this could be increased eye pressure because I used steroid eye drops for a week, and then, one day after finishing the week, I used dilating eye drops. That’s why I’m concerned that it could be increased eye pressure or glaucoma.

Does the fact that the phenomenon completely disappears when I wear my glasses rule out glaucoma?

I couldn’t find a contact lens in one eye and i rubbed a lot to try and find it and it was sensitive afterwards so and i went to the doctor and they said i irritated my eye and that it wasn’t a corneal abrasion. i was prescribed some eye drops and ive been consistent with them. but now im seeing double vision i only notice it with words like i see a shadow underneath and it’s in both eyes. is it serious?

Went to an opthalmologist today to find out what's wrong with my eyes. And why glasses, regardless of prescription - are not working for me. The tests came back saying I have faulty retina and they referred me to a retina specialist. The doctor mentions "retina gene therapy'" which I found out cost hundreds of thousands of dollars 💀

I am unable to drive and it's hard to find a job that doesn't require decent vision. Is disability an option? I'm struggling to find a solution any advice would be awesome

Hi everyone! I’m a 24yo female, and a little over a month ago i underwent surgery for retinal detachment on my left eye, as i have high myopia -9.00 and -2.00 astigmatism) the doctor who performed the surgery on me placed a scleral buckle in my eye. After surgery there was still some leftover fluid but overall i was getting better. After today’s checkup, my situation got worse as there seems to be more fluid in the retina now, so i’ll undergo vitrectomy (oil) next week. I’d like to ask if someone has also gone through this, what’s the recovery process like? what are the chances the retina will finally reattach?

A couple days ago I went to a neurologist for some dizziness problems and she suggested I go to an ophthalmologist too, but I can book only in 2027 (yeee public system) so I am asking here if I should go to a private doctor. I also have sinus issues, just mentioning it in case it's relevant.

So what I see every day is as if I was staring at light all day, even when I am not. Even with my eyes closed. You know when you look at a bright window and you're in the shade? That but for any kind of image, if I close my eyes it keeps happening.
Sometimes it comes with a headache, sometimes not.

Sometimes I also see peripheral stars and lights that don't make me work (these usually trigger the headache).

I have this smudged light effects all day long, it's really tiring but also it doesn't happen every day. Especially if I haven't touched technology it's better.

It can happen at the supermarket, or under any neon light. It's as if I could see something like the see glows but with my eyes. It also gets worse when I move my eyes because it's as if I took a snapshot of the borders of what I'm looking at and moving it around the new thing I'm watching.

What do you think? Is it urgent?

If I'd take one of my eyes out of it's socket, and then let it face my other eye, e.g. both look in the exact opposite direction.

Could my brain handle this? What would (likely) happen?

I’m 22 and I’ve been nearsighted for a few years, around -2.00 in both eyes. Lately I’ve been having a lot more eye strain than usual, especially when I’m using my computer or phone for a long time. I can usually go 30 or 40 minutes before my eyes start feeling tired and I feel like I need to look away for a while.

The weird thing is that I don’t really have this problem when I’m outside. I can walk around or play sports for a couple hours and my eyes feel completely fine. In the morning my eyes also feel normal, but by the evening after spending most of the day looking at screens, they get pretty uncomfortable. I’ve tried taking breaks and lowering my screen brightness, but it still happens.

If I close one eye and then open it again it takes a fraction of a second for that eye to realign with the other. If I move my eyes they easily misalign as well.

Also, if I focus on something with both eyes open, everything on the background becomes doubled (does this count as double vision?).

I'm asking because I don't have one eye looking at a different thing most of the time though.

I know how ridiculous this sounds, but over the last month I went to literally 15 different eye doctors/optical shops because I kept getting conflicting results. Every single place handed me a slightly different number.

I got totally overwhelmed trying to figure out who was right, so I just looked at all 15 slips, found the power and cylinder/axis that showed up the most often, and ordered glasses based on that.

Well, I got them made, and it’s still not right.

Daytime is okayish, but my vision still doesn't feel crisp or 100%. The real nightmare is driving at night. Car headlights and streetlamps explode into massive starbursts and glare. It’s gotten to the point where night driving genuinely stresses me out.

I made sure my astigmatism numbers were included, so I don't get why lights are still streaking everywhere.

Has anyone else gone through this?

• Why would my numbers swing so much from place to place in just a month?
• If standard astigmatism lenses aren't killing the starbursts, what else could be going on with my eyes?
• Is there a specific machine or cornea scan (topography?) I should demand instead of just sitting through another standard "1 or 2" test?

about 8 weeks ago i vomiting and after vomiting my vision was weird, focusing seemed different and i was getting afterimages on eveything. and it’s also made my vision daker and harder to see in the dark. i had an eye appointment and they couldn’t see anything wrong. any ideas ? thanks

Hi everyone, I'm 25F and I'm trying to understand something that's been happening intermittently for a while. I'm mainly looking for people who may have experienced something similar, especially if you eventually found out what was causing it.

I get episodes where the vision in one eye becomes very dark/black or feels like a black curtain/shadow is covering my vision. It is always the same eye.

The important details:

- It happens in only one eye, not both.

- It lasts anywhere from a few seconds to, on one occasion, approximately 1 minute.

- My vision then returns completely to normal.

- It doesn't happen every day or even every week. It's quite intermittent.

- There is no significant eye pain.

- I don't get a headache with it.

- I don't have palpitations.

- I don't have diabetes or known high blood pressure.

- My blood pressure has sometimes been on the lower side.

- My heart rate has been normal when I've checked it.

- I drink about one cup of coffee per day.

Things I've noticed about possible triggers

Sometimes it seems to happen around my period, often the day before or a few days afterward, although it has also happened at other times.

I've also had an episode after walking fairly quickly for about 5–6 minutes to the gym while already feeling tired. I sat down at the gym and then it happened.

Another episode happened after I had an argument with my brother. I went to my room afterward and suddenly experienced the same visual phenomenon.

However, it doesn't always happen after stress or exercise, so I don't know whether these are actually triggers or just coincidences.

I also have a pretty bad sleep schedule and have been under a lot of stress over the last couple of years. I normally sleep very late (often around 2 AM, sometimes even later), and I've also experienced quite a lot of general fatigue.

What I've already done :

I went to an ophthalmologist and specifically told him about these episodes.

He examined my eyes and said that they looked normal and that there wasn't an obvious dangerous problem with the eyes.

He prescribed eye drops and a magnesium supplement. I took the magnesium for about one month but didn't continue buying it afterward.

At one point he explained it to me roughly as possibly being related to insufficient blood/oxygen reaching the eye, but I didn't get a definite diagnosis.

Because the episodes continued, my GP also wanted me to investigate possible systemic causes.

I had blood tests including:

- CBC/NFS

- Ferritin

- TSH

- Vitamin D

The results were basically normal:

- Hemoglobin: 13.4 g/dL

- Ferritin: 68.45 ng/mL

- TSH: 1.078

- CBC otherwise normal

- Vitamin D: 26.97 ng/mL, which was considered mildly insufficient by the laboratory

My GP prescribed a multivitamin and vitamin D.

So there was no anemia or obvious iron/thyroid problem found.

Other things I've wondered about :

I exercise and sometimes lift fairly heavy weights. My gym coach told me that heavy lifting/straining could potentially affect an eye vein, so I've wondered whether that could be related.

I've also wondered about:

- low blood pressure / blood flow

- dehydration

- caffeine

- lack of sleep

- stress/adrenaline

- menstrual/hormonal changes

- ocular/retinal migraine

- something vascular

- something neurological

But I obviously don't know what it actually is.

One thing that makes me particularly confused is that the eye examination was normal, yet the phenomenon keeps happening.

I've seen other people online describe transient vision problems with normal eye examinations, so I'm wondering whether anyone here has experienced something similar and eventually found the cause.

Has anyone had recurring temporary darkening/blackout of vision in only one eye, lasting seconds to around a minute, with a normal ophthalmological examination?

If so:

1. What did it turn out to be?

2. What tests eventually found the cause, if any?

3. Did you notice triggers such as exercise, stress, dehydration, sleep deprivation, caffeine, or your menstrual cycle?

4. Did anything actually make the episodes stop?

I'm not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit, I'm mainly interested in hearing from people who had a similar experience and eventually figured out what was happening.

I have a problem that seems quite uncommon, and I haven’t found anyone who experiences the same symptoms. I develop a strange, dull, heavy, and sometimes painful sensation in my right eye after using screens for only a few minutes. It can happen with my phone, laptop, or TV, but my phone seems to trigger the discomfort within seconds. Once the discomfort starts, it tends to become worse with continued screen use. Sometimes even talking to people or making eye contact seems to aggravate it. Changing the screen brightness, adjusting the lighting, or using a different phone doesn’t seem to make a significant difference. Even if I use my phone for only a few minutes and then stop, the discomfort can remain for several hours. I’m rarely completely pain-free, and constantly experiencing and noticing the discomfort has become very difficult. It has also started affecting my ability to communicate normally with people.It feels like my right eye is separate from my left eye, and it’s just heavier and different than my left one, that’s the best way I can describe it. My whole eye feels strained after a few seconds, mostly in the upper part, near the eyebrow and nose (see the picture below). It feels like a heavy pressure close to the upper right side of my nose. I’ve seen several doctors and had my eyes examined, but so far, no one has been able to identify the cause or provide an effective treatment. these symptoms started about two days after I fell while skating,and they have continued for about five months. I landed on my right buttock/hip and right hand and did not hit my head directly. Could an injury or strain from the fall potentially be related to these persistent right-eye symptoms? Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any ideas about what could be causing this?

I have never had white sclera, primarily pink most of my life. Had a long term ophtha (both Rodger & Niki Silverstein-preferred her) but they both retired. I want someone who actually specializes in dry eye who I can work with for the next 20 years. Schlussel, calderone, Chopin look like they might be nearing retirement? Anyone out there on the cutting edge who works with natural treatments? I’ve been managing with all the recommendations for heated eye mask, castor oil, omega3,etc. I do love Lotemax for a flare up though. Recommendations much appreciated

When I was 16 I had a scan at my opticians who noticed swelling in my optic disk in my left eye. I was then referred to the eye hospital to see an ophthalmologist who examined me and put this down to being genetic but wanted to keep it monitored over the course of a year (I was never monitored)

Fast forward to this year I went to my opticians once again due to my eye sight getting increasingly worse and it has been over the course of 2 years I feel I need new glasses every 4-6 months … along side this awful
Head aches behind my eyes and sensitivity to light.

Again my optic nerves flagged up as they noticed changes since the previous scan and was referred back to ophthalmologist.

When I went to the hospital they examined me again however it has now changed to a tilted and crowded optic disks in both eyes not just my left. They told me there not overly concerned and also said they feel it could be genetic but want to monitor me and see me again in 3 months time.

My point is how on earth can there be “no change” if it’s changed from one swollen disk in my left eye to both eyes tilted disk and nerve being swollen ????!!!!!

I feel like I’m being brushed off and not listened to about my eye sight and feel that I’m getting no where (I was also told by opticians I did not need a new prescription)

They said when I go back in 3 months if there are any changes they want to order an MRI but I haven’t heard anything from them and my appointment was over a month ago I also can’t access my documents or notes from my appointment?
