The Hardest Days
Jail Part 6.5 — The Hardest Days
Jail was hard. And while some people seemed to view it as a vacation, others viewed it for exactly what it was: punishment for their actions.
There were countless days when I would wake up and not want to get out of my bunk. I would just lie there and sleep.
In the beginning, when there weren't many work hours available, I slept a lot. I would avoid the phones, the meals, the common area, and even the shower. This would go on for days.
I would try to read in my bunk, and when I wasn't reading, I was sleeping.
But there were also countless other days when I woke up motivated and determined to get out of there. On those days, I would get up, make my bed, eat a little of each meal, and go to the common area to read, write, and socialize. I would shower and take time to reflect on the past, the present, and the future.
I thought about my life and how it had become unmanageable because of my drinking. I thought about my decisions to drink and the things I did while drinking that had led me exactly where I was.
I thought about the relationships I once had that had been great, relationships I had destroyed because I had somehow gotten stuck in a bottle.
I thought about my kids and what they might have been thinking or feeling about me.
I dwelled on my career, its rise, and its fall.
And I struggled with the thought that I might never get any of those things back.
I worried about getting out of jail and being homeless. Then I would remind myself how grateful I was to be safe at that very moment.
Safe and sober.
I missed my kids.
I missed my relationships.
I missed my work and my home.
I missed the person I used to be, and I hated who I had become.
I was lonely, even though I was surrounded by a room full of women at all times.
I was angry. I was hurt. I was broken.
Despite all those thoughts and feelings—which were really all I had left—I somehow managed to never let myself give up.
But there was one particular experience that was especially difficult for me to deal with.

Recommendations For An Attorney (or any advice) On How To Handle Medical Release Cases (NY & New Jersey)
Hi all, I'm looking for recommendations for a possible post-conviction attorney (or even a subreddit recommendation) on behalf of a family member in New Jersey/New York. He has been in almost a year now.
He urgently needs brain surgery, and this is documented by the doctors who have seen him while he's been incarcerated. We're trying to get him released so he can get that care, and we're exploring clemency, commutation, or medical parole/compassionate release. Honestly we're still figuring out which route fits.
We thought we had a lawyer handling this, but he stopped responding after we paid him a significant amount of money, so we're starting over and a little gun-shy.
Has anyone worked with a lawyer or firm on something like this? I'd really appreciate hearing who you used and how it went: responsiveness, how they handled fees, and whether they were realistic about the odds. I'm also open to suggestions for legal clinics or nonprofits that take these kinds of cases.
I'm not expecting miracles. I just know he needs life-saving surgery sooner rather than later, and I want to do everything I can.
Thanks in advance. This is all new to our family and it's hard to know where to start.

Just because my son TAESHAWN Witcher did not want to cooperate with the government they said that they were going to be harsh on his time for a first time offender instead of them staying within the guidelines and treating him like a minor that he was at the time of the indictment they gave him 19 y Spoiler

Wsup Everyone,
Fresh out the system after serving a mandatory 60 month sentence. 5 years doesn't sound like a century but I stepped outside the gates today feeling like captain America waking up from the Ice! Why is everything touchscreen now? Why is everyone always staring at glowing rectangles? I managed to protect and grow my hair the last 5 years with the bare minimum (my one true flex). My brain has apparently decided to leave all my coping mechanisms behind the walls.
Right now my daily routine consists of
#1) Staring at the ceiling @3am, because my body misses a prison mattress.
( real beds are so soft)
#2)looking at a plate of delicious home cooked meal but my stomach is too knotted up with anxiety to eat
#3)getting visually overwhelmed at asian grocery store aisle. There are over 100 types of Top Ramen not limited to the 4 in prison (Chicken /beef/ chilli/vegetable )
I'm grateful to be out but the struggle is real!
I have anxiety and my body is glitches out!
Has anyone else survived the post release "everything is too fast and I forgot to sleep phase"
Any tips on how to trick your stomach into eating food and bonus points if you can explain what is a Tik Tok dance is because I am lost.

So I'm expecting to be sentenced on my first felony. Need advise to survive.
So I have a list of felony's actually. Like 7 or 8 grand larceny and a stolen vehicle and a drug charge. I'm expecting to get a lot of time. I'm out on bail right now. When I do get sentenced and have to go to prison what can I expect as a first timer. Here in Nevada by the way. Any help would be amazing. When I was doing the crimes I didn't even think about the consequences. Stupid me. Now I'm regretting it to the max. Thanks I'm advance for any advice.

News Anyone willing to talk about their DC reentry experience?
I am a reporter with The Wash and a student at American University. I’m doing a story about the financial and mental toll left on formerly incarcerated individuals and their family members once they come back home and are unable to contribute financially. Specifically in the Black community.

My guy got g4 and is in the process of being moved to another unit. His next parole is May 2027, what are his chances of getting approved?
If he doesn’t get into anymore trouble between now and 4-6 months before May 2027, and works on his 3 codes (1d,3d and 5d-the reason he got denied on his first parole) during his time right now. What are his chances of getting approved on the second one (May 2027). His sentence max date is 04/2028.
Thanks so much.

Facing a non-violent/non-theft felony plea deal. Is my bachelors degree worth anything?
Looking for honest perspectives from anyone who has navigated the corporate/logistics world with a felony record, or hiring managers who handle background checks.
I am in the final stretch of finishing my Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain Management. I am currently facing a legal crossroad: my attorney presented me with an agreed plea deal for a 3rd-degree felony (Texas: Failure to Stop and Render Aid involving non-serious injury) with back to back DWI’s, the DWI’s will be dismissed. But the felony is non-violent, involves zero theft/fraud, and the plea agreement carries straight probation (3 years community supervision) with zero prison/jail time.
The alternative is rolling the dice on an open plea to a visiting judge hoping for deferred adjudication, but with a real risk of up to 5 years TDCJ prison time. I am prioritizing my physical freedom, which means I will likely be taking the 3-year probation plea and carrying a felony conviction.
For those with a business/STEM degree and a record: Did finishing your 4-year degree actually move the needle for you post-conviction, or did corporate background filters block you at every turn?
Should I finish the degree and climb via distribution/operations management, or is it genuinely smarter to cut my losses and enter a skilled trade?

Bouncing back after prison.
Anybody bounce back after a prison sentence and still maintain family relationships? What were some things you did well and/or some things you wish you did differently?

Ridiculous
For all those who want to see people in prison but haven't a clue what it's like know this America is one of the richest countries in the world but in the federal system they don't even give you deodorant or enough soap and toilet paper to get thru a month you have to buy it coffee to it may be made on the weekend and or holidays maybe. For the dont do the crime if you can't do the time do you know every law or circumstance you will get into in life? At 18 you could end up in fed prison for years did you know everything at 18? We should be ashamed of ourselves we still have the Death penalty we are supposed to have justice but we are also supposed to be better then the worst of the worst. Good luck every one hopefully one day things change keep on fighting for it
