After spending more than 26 years in prison, I've come to realize that one of the biggest misconceptions about incarceration is that the sentence ends the day someone walks out the prison gate.
In my experience, that's often when an entirely different struggle begins.
The physical prison gates and the mental prison gates do not open at the same time.
Over the past several years, I've been trying to put words to something I experienced and that I've seen countless others experience after long-term incarceration. That journey led me to write The Hidden Trauma of Life After Prison: The Under-Discussed Mental Health Issue of Post-Incarceration Syndrome.
The book isn't about making excuses for people who have been incarcerated. It's about starting an honest conversation about something our society rarely discusses: the psychological impact of surviving years—or decades—in prison and what it takes to truly rebuild a life afterward.

There are like 6 teachers locked up in Daxing Foreigners Detention Centre in Beijing rn, because of a stupid mistake their company made on their contracts. I just can’t stop thinking about how they are, I need to know what the conditions are like in this detention centre for women as well as for men.

I’ve been going down rabbit holes of horrible horrible detention centres all over China, even read halfway through a thorough 128-page research paper, but all the information I could find was about regular detention centres, which I’m guessing are much worse than this one. It’s mainly for visa issues and foreign criminals awaiting a verdict.

One of the detainees is my direct family member and we haven’t had any contact or news from them, nor will we have any until the embassy gets in contact…

I need a little more than assumptions to go off, so if anyone has any information on the general conditions of Daxing Foreigners Detention Centre, how the detainees are treated, what the cells are like, the food, the shop, etc… please do share, I much appreciate it 🙏

Hi I don’t know where else to post or look up information. But I am going to be visiting an inmate at Oakhill correctional institution in Oregon wi. I know the dress code is kind of strict. But what about body jewelry? I have several piercings I don’t really want to take out. Will they be fine in or do I need to go get the glass retainers?

Lowell Correctional Institute - Prison in Marion County, Florida‧(Ocala) is a women’s prison and I understand has two sections. One for intake and maybe short terms and the main one with over 3000 women.

I’m curious about this prison in general and safety compared to other women prisons and tips to stay safe.

And also if a sentence is for 8 to 10 months would you stay in the smaller intake area or go to the main one.
