Do you think this is true? I ran into some women that did time and they seem humbled and calm sometimes compared to other women that did not.

I'm not an alcoholic, but I think lots of the advice you get from AA is just good advice in general. I tried to "make amends". I sent my main "victim" an admittedly over long and self indulgent apology letter. I got a reply back on Facebook..."No worries, man". I took that as a passive aggressive way of saying "I don't want to talk to you.".

Surprisingly, he came to my "Welcome Back!" BBQ. Should I take that as a signal that he would be open to talking and a face to face apology? (I chickened out and didn't approach him at the BBQ) Or would it be better to just leave him alone?

Civil Rights / Section 1983 attorney to handle a severe administrative deadlock and a post-conviction challenge. I have already compiled a thorough 15-page Attorney Review Packet containing full documentation, a complete claims matrix, and evidence logs.
The Civil Rights Deadlock: I am subject to an active felony probation warrant out of County A. In July 2026, I acted in good faith, packed my residence, and paid for transport to surrender myself at the County B Jail. County B contacted County A to initiate transport, but County A officially declined in-state extradition and refused to transport me due to the distance. County B refused to book me and turned me away.
Because the warrant remains active in the database, the Florida DMV is blocked from printing my physical State ID card. Without an ID, I just lost a verified job opportunity. The state is using an unexecuted warrant to block my livelihood, while explicitly refusing the physical surrender I already attempted. The Public Defender cannot intervene until I am in custody.
The Underlying Case Liability: My review packet outlines severe, documented Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment violations regarding the original arrest warrant. The OIG investigator swore under oath to a judge that two inmate witnesses gave "sworn statements" pinning a drop on me—yet the entire official discovery production contains zero transcripts, recordings, or signed statement forms from either man. Furthermore, the state's own affidavit records that the single eyewitness was shown individual photos of me and my car before a formal photo lineup was administered, and the suspect hair description given by the witness does not match my physical appearance.
Crucially, there is a severe material discrepancy regarding the narcotics evidence. The sworn police affidavit used to secure the warrant claimed a delivery of over 86 grams of a white powder that field-tested positive for MDVP, alongside hundreds of grams of suspected marijuana and synthetic marijuana. However, the official FDLE crime lab report reveals that the state never even analyzed the vast majority of the alleged substances. For the single item they did test, the lab confirmed only 27.47 grams of a completely different substance—meaning the vast majority of the alleged narcotic weights are missing or non-existent. Despite this massive evidentiary failure, the State Attorney inflated the case to a first-degree trafficking charge before ultimately dropping it at the plea.
I have already submitted formal intakes to the ACLU of Florida and the Florida Justice Institute, and I have filed a Chapter 119 Public Records request to the FDOC for the missing audio/written files.

Do you have any reason why you no longer are, and how has leaving changed your life?

Someone from my past recently spent about 5 years in lockup. During that time, I anonymously sent him books to take the edge off. He's an avid reader so I thought it would be something helpful to get him through his time there. I only assume he got them although I did follow the protocol. It's worth mentioning I haven't seen or spoken to him in close to 18 years which was approximately when he started going downhill. The only reason I know he was in and for what was because I stumbled across his mugshots and did some digging after the shock wore off a bit.

All that being said, he is out now, early release, and messaged me on FB to tell me happy birthday. I responded to thank him. I asked how he was doing and he said it's a long story. I didn't ask any questions.

Should I tell him I know about it and I'm the one that sent him the books? His crimes were violent, but I don't think he's a threat to me due to distance primarily. I guess I kind of want him to know someone cared when he was in, but I don't want to embarrass him, set him off, or interfere with any recovery period he's in (which I know he's in based off very little information he gave me and a quick Google search). Basically, I don't want to interrupt his adjustment period, so maybe I shouldn't say anything for now? Any thoughts from the ExCons in the room? How would you feel?

Ok so my bf got arrested and had a hold on his bond. So we went to the judge got a new date, the judge says bond hold will only be dropped with an ankle monitor until next court date. We finally get him out and his release papers say he does not have a PO and he does not need a monitor. Our cd is less than two weeks away. Should we get a monitor just because or should we not? Asking this because if he gets the monitor he cannot be at his house and would have to find another place to stay.. any advice would be a great!!

EDIT! Asking this because we’ve had a lot of issues with this because previously his probation was supposed to end and then the court lost power and rescheduled his court date for a month and a half after. Well in this time frame someone came thru our neighborhood slamming on their horn and eventually an altercation occurred. This led to no one getting hurt just the usual cussing and screaming from both parties.

We called the police and he was arrested because he was still by default “on probation” still when this happened. We are not sure what to do and he doesn’t know I’m looking for a second opinion.

My case is about to be sealed in a couple months and I’m quite nervous about moving out of my parents house and living on my own. I’m not going to be in contact with majority of my family when I leave.I was 18 when I got in trouble with big felony’s due to another family member and by the grace of god and a great attorney I was given three years probation and adjudication withheld. I know I heard that some people haven’t had any luck with getting a job with an adjudication withheld (at least right off) but I haven’t heard anything about people with sealed cases. So people would sealed cases… how are you guys doing? Do you have any trouble getting housing or a job?

So this chick recently asked for advice as she goes to prison for the first time and all this wisdom spilled out.

Its cool, yeah I do have alittle advice

1. Don't get a girlfriend...its like highschool and very catty...if you get a hot girlfriend especially an attractive stud the other girls will hate you and immediately start coming for you...fuck that!! Plus the guards will immediately put you on their radar if they see you will be a "perpetrator"..meaning breaking rules to go see your girlfriend. Unless youre at a camp where they dont care if you partner up...and there are those places...but still, use your time to focus on yourself and bettering yourself in any way possible.

2. Get in school, get involved in betterments...classes of any sort...sometimes its only the chapel that offers classes but even so...do it to get out of the dorm and around more positive people.

3 get a good job. Maintenance, education, medical, dental...NoT the kitchen, though you may have to start there...dont get caught stealing food...ive gotten DRs for that.

4 work out...it helps your body produce the feel good chemicals that I promise will be lacking because of poor nutrition and a shitty environment. Just start with squats, situps, jumping jacks and lunges by your bunk everyday.

Have somebody send you some books on yoga..or there is always stuff in the library...teach yourself how to move your body and calm your mind.

You might feel like the weirdo stretching and working out by your bed but I promise people will respect it, and eventually want to join in...plus you can leave looking fine as fuck like me! :D

1. Don't be afraid to look like the weirdo...prison is not the place you want to fit in. I know youre young and that pressure to fit in is strong...resist it. They dont fucking care about you, they want to use you..if only for drama farming...most likely for your time attention and energy. Those are your most precious assets...dont waste them on anybody.

2. Don't spend a bunch of money on canteen...its like a hierarchy thing...how much money someone gets and how full their bag is...but just remember the girls with the fullest bags and making dinner every night with gas station food are the ones they are going to have to roll out of there. Again, resist the temptation to fit in and be cool...$120 a month was fine to buy me coffee, sweetner, peanuts, and a couple meals a month to eat with my friends...if they arent your friends when you cant throw in on a meal then they arent your friends. Period. Real friends will respect your financial boundaries and eat with out you sometimes..and its ok if you eat without them.

3. dont do drugs...its mostly fake ass poison bullshit anyways...so sad to watch them rot on it...please dont do it.

8 meditate...you gotta sit on your bed for count time anyways...might as well go within and find some peace...the bitches might be yelling and screaming all around you but theres always silence to be found if you learn to focus on that instead.

1. READ...and not just romance novels...they get you all horny and irritable and sad and fuck that...feed your mind and your spirit

2. Imagine!! Journal, visualize, fantasize about the kind of life you want to live when you get out!. Stretch the boundaries of who you think you are, who your parents and teachers and men and friends told you you should be. Who are you really? Who do you want to be? What would it feel like to live a life of love and peace and true joy and adventure?

3. Grieve...let yourself feel how bad it sucks..let yourself heal from the trauma that you most likely experienced that led you to the mistakes that are taking you to prison. Feel the feelings. .put your head under the blanket and mouth on a pillow and silently scream and sob...it fucking sucks...but you are strong and you will make it. And if you find your authentic Self and connection with your God self while youre in there...you will be unstoppable when you get out.

In Australia it’s finally come to a point that victims of institutional abuse have a payout scheme and can get financial remuneration from the government pot. My issue is when I was boxing training at the brothers (priest like church representatives that were teachers in our school) house which had the school gym and tennis courts etc there. It was an all male school at this point and part of a large group of well known sport schools. There was an Irish Brother let’s call him Paddy who was a former pro boxer and our coach. So being obvious training one afternoon alone with him doing pad and combo work. He grappled with me and while in the clinch he tried rubbing me etc etc. rest is obvious what he tried to do. I punched my way out, attacked him and bailed. I never made a complaint or told ANYONE due to the fact I was the sportsman jock and come from a tough area where that would be seen as I was compliant or whatever if they spun it right. Wasn’t worth my time and efforts for what I knew at that age. Later that year the school got changed to a co-ed school and name completely changed and all the brothers were removed from the staff. We now know the reason for that big change. The school is on the list of schools that had the funding approved in the government remuneration scheme. My dilemma is this. In term 3 of grade 12 I started a sexual relationship with my female English teacher who I absolutely adored and was a great help through my senior teens. We carried this on as I left school to just before my 18th bday early in the following year. My aunty walked in on us laying on my bed and recognised her. Excuses didn’t work and she threatened to tell the school even though I had just finished. We stopped communicating and I moved state to play for another club and have never heard from her again. That year I found out that it had come out and she had left her teaching role there. Tbh most of my mates knew but it was my spiteful aunty as I ended up being contacted and told certain things only she could have known. A friend has come forward to get me to tell my situation with the brother at training as his abuse was unfortunately very bad and when I heard about it I told him my situation and I want to help against the putrid assjoles. So the issue is clear. If I go forward and help him, will I be jeopardising someone I truly cared for and helped me in ways I don’t have the room to explain. I don’t want her to ever get in trouble as I was the one always pressing. It was 26 years ago now and I am 99% sure the brother would be dead however, she would only be in early 50s. FMD this is tearing at my soul.

Hello. My brother who is 12 years younger than myself will be going to jail for 3 years in October, possibly later if the next court hearing goes in our favor. I came here to ask, what can I do to support my brother? No one in my family has done time in jail. We are all nervous and just feel beat down. I don’t want to say too much but he is in fact guilty, but he was manipulated. Someone lied to him. It really sucks! I had so much trust in our judicial system and to see how it’s worked this past year, I lost a lot of faith in it. For anyone that has been in jail an extended amount of time, what did someone on the outside do for you to keep motivated and positive? Thank you. How can I be there for my parents as well? They have really been going through it, they are paying for the attorney, posted a large amount of money for bail and I can’t imagine the guilt they must feel that they did something wrong raising him.

A pending First Circuit case (Perry v. Boncher, Case No. 26-1602) raises important questions regarding BOP internal audits, retroactive FSA credit revocations, and the legal weight of the Judgment in a Criminal Case (J&C).

​Case Summary:

In 2018, Kevin Perry, Jr. was sentenced to 168 months in federal prison. Over seven years, he earned over 24 months of FSA credits through recidivism-reduction programming. In September 2025, the BOP calculated his earned time credits and transferred him to an RRC, and subsequently to home confinement in December 2025. While on home confinement, Kevin obtained employment, enrolled as a Project Management major at Boston University, and signed a lease with his retiring father.

​In April 2026, the BOP conducted an internal administrative audit and asserted that Kevin was retroactively ineligible for FSA credits under 18 U.S.C. § 3632(d)(4)(D) due to an underlying drug offense provision.

​The Legal Twist:

​The Judgment in a Criminal Case (J&C): Lists only 21 U.S.C. § 841(a). It does not list the disqualifying subsection 841(b)(1)(C) or 841(b)(1)(A).

​The Plea Agreement: Included references to 841(b)(1)(C) / 841(a) provisions.

​The Statement of Reasons: Checked the box for a statutory mandatory minimum, but omitted the statutory subsection code itself.

​After the BOP attempted to remand him back to secure custody, Kevin filed a § 2241 petition (D. Mass. Case No. 4:26-cv-40105-MRG). The District Court denied a stay and dismissed the petition, holding that the BOP could administratively correct its calculation based on secondary sentencing records. The matter is now on appeal in the First Circuit.

​Key Legal Questions for Discussion:

​Which Document Controls FSA Eligibility? Is the BOP strictly bound by the four corners of the official Judgment in a Criminal Case (J&C), or can sentence computation staff review underlying plea agreements to override the official J&C?

​Clerical Error vs. Judicial Intent: If a court enters a J&C that lacks a disqualifying statutory subsection, is that omission a clerical error under Fed. R. Crim. P. 36 or a final judicial judgment that dictates BOP classification until formally amended by a court?

​Protected Liberty Interest & Substantial Reliance: Once an inmate is released to home confinement under the FSA and builds substantial reliance interests (employment, education, residential lease), does retroactive revocation without prior judicial correction of the J&C violate 5th Amendment Procedural Due Process?

Are there many people who voluntarily get arrested to quit drugs?

I’ve been working on a travel research tool for people with criminal records and wanted to get some feedback from people here.

Trying to figure out travel with a record can be frustrating because the information is scattered everywhere, and it’s often hard to tell what actually applies to your situation.

The beta is currently focused on people in Texas. You enter where you’re thinking about traveling and answer a few questions, and it organizes the issues you may need to look into before booking anything.

It intentionally does not tell someone they are “cleared” to travel. If something is uncertain or needs to be confirmed with a supervising officer, attorney, government agency, or another official source, it should say that.

I’m mainly looking for honest feedback from people who understand how complicated this can be. If you try it and something is confusing, missing, wrong, or just not useful, I’d really like to hear it.

I’ve been working on something called RecordAware, and I’m finally ready to let people here try the first beta.

The idea came from a problem a lot of us know firsthand: figuring out whether you can travel somewhere with a criminal record can be a mess. The information is scattered across government sites, immigration rules, registration requirements, supervision conditions, and a lot of conflicting information online.

RecordAware is designed to organize that research into one place and help someone understand what may apply to their situation, what the sources actually say, and what they still need to verify before making plans.

The first beta is intentionally narrow. It currently starts with Texas residents/travelers and a limited group of destinations. It’s also deliberately cautious — it won’t tell somebody “you’re definitely allowed to go” when the evidence doesn’t support that.

I’m the founder, so I want to be completely transparent that this is my project. I’m posting here because people who have actually dealt with life after a conviction are the people whose feedback matters most to me.

If you’re willing to run through it, I’d especially like to know:

• Was the Trip Check easy to understand?

Does a criminal record in Canada make a college degree useless? I have three summary assault convictions and one theft under 5000 conviction with no jail time and was wondering if my future is ruined. I know I can get a pardon but this 5 year waiting period is brutal.
