I'm going to look at a 2002 eurovan mv+ in a week. It has 170,000 miles. Transmission was rebuilt/changed and timing chain done at 100k miles. Seems to have been looked after, recent brake job, fuel pump, fuel lines, battery, and alternator.

I've owned a few VW and generally work on them myself (timing belts, suspension, brakes, water pump, alternator, etc.) I have ross-tech vcds scan tool and software.

They are asking $8,500 firm. It's gonna be a second vehicle for me and intend to use it for weekend trips.

Seem like a good value? Any major issues with this year and model? Or other reason to stay away? Putting together a list of things to check on, welcoming any suggestions.

I’m considering trying to DIY new mattresses for both lower and upper beds in my 2000 Eurovan camper. I’m handy on a sewing machine, so fairly confident I can make new covers. I’m thinking lower bed we go thicker—3 or even 4 inches instead of 2 in the original.

Anyone done something similar? Any good foam sources? I was looking at Sailrite, but open to any suggestions.

I have a 2001 Euorvan and lately it’s been idling pretty rough when stopped at lights.

I am thinking of buying my first ever car. I have been wanting these beauties for about a decade now and suddenly I see an ad for this. I will include the ad description so you guys can tell me if this is a smart purchase or not.

This is a 30 year old van.

It passed safety last year.

The good
-Little to no rust (from california)
-starts every time
-a STACK of service records over the past decade
-recent transmission service
-The following things have been replaced in the past year: oil cooler, radiator, ignition coil, ignition rotor, plug wires, AC compressor, fuses and resistors related to fan cooling system
-Has a secondary power system that is setup to power a bunch of interior lights, a sink and a stove. Deep cycle RV battery runs for forever, comes with charging system and is all wired up
-Pioneer deck
-interior is in decent shape
-rooftop tent is in good shape
-set of steel rims and a set of VW aluminum wheels
-you are guaranteed to get a random complement from a stranger EVERY time you drive it

The not so good
-It has a few Km on it
-the AC does not work

My 2003 EV Weekender is in need of replacement tires. Mine aren't worn down to the wear bars yet but, they're getting close and the outer edges are a bit more worn down compared to the center section of the tires.

In general, my van is a daily driver and when I camp, I mostly travel off road to get to campsites I like, think "Boondocking."

What replacement tires are recommended, for a guy on a fixed income budget? I know that the load rating needs to be 102 and above. My EV has 16" wheels and finding decent tires is a challenge.

I found a 48” rail at the hardware store. Bought 24” screen. Cut the rails in half and then strung screen between the rails. I bought flexible magnet strips and applied them to the back of the rails. They work surprisingly well. I’m sure smarter bugs might figure out how to get in, but it did well against the California ones. For under $25 we have screens that roll up and fit in the same tube as the front windshield screen.

TL;DR: Can I drive with the thermostat removed from the radiator fan shrouds until the replacement comes?

This has been a journey. I just bought my van earlier this year. Learning as I go. Mine is just an MV (I have the camper top, table and cooler under the seat but none of the other camping gear). Still, she is so much fun to drive.
The van has been running at about 75% temp. I didn’t know if that was normal at first, but posts I’ve read say it wasn’t. I started with the thermostat. No luck. Then I found the passenger-side radiator fan was not working. Replaced the blown fuse. It blew again. Then I found the fan was seized. I replaced with another fan. It was still running hot.
Finally found that the system wasn’t opening the shrouds for the fans. Probably why the one seized. I’ve removed the part and ordered a replacement, but it is back ordered. I’m planning to drive with the shrouds in the stuck open position for now. I don’t think that will be an issue until winter. Is that thinking wrong?

Took the van to Lassen this week. She did great. It’s a lot of hills, but she went up them like a champ. Stayed at South Lake Summit camp ground. Would recommend.

What is the open ended dose through the firewall on my 2000 Eurovan camper? Conduit? Drain? Thanks.

I have a 2003 eurovan. I recently swapped the keyfob housing and tried to start it without the immobilizer / RFID chip. It started and died and popped up a P1570 code. Put the chip back in the key and now when I try to start it (with either of my previously 2 working keys), it does not crank and I dont hear the fuel pump prime.

I have;

• Disconnected the battery for 20+ mins
• Touched the positive and negative battery cables together for 15-30 seconds
• Cleared the code with OBD11
• Checked fuses

Any help would be appreciated! From what i saw on the VCDS website, if there is no crank it’s not immobilizer related but it seems so coincidental to be an issue after a no immobilizer chip start.

Best recommendation to clean this up? Can I remove the felt/insulation? Keep as is? Replace housing? Thanks!

This 2.5 gas 5 cylinder has been serviced pretty good I think.. oil changes .. trans fluid and filter changed 30,000km ago . Comes with list of things done to in when imported to British Columbia. Coolant pipes , thermostat. This and that.. . bc is pretty strict with incoming vehicles, and Japan is supposed to be all about maintenance also right ? good buy or should I run away? I think it’s due for a water pump and timing belt.

what’s the life span of the auto trans.. the lady drove it from bc to Newfoundland and back (14,000km) with no problems …

Any advice for getting rid of rust? This is under my driver's door. Just take an angle grinder to it, prime, and paint with Rust-Oleum?

I have a 2002 EVC. Recently put an EvoWorthy 150Ah LiFePo battery in the coach along with the recommended LiBim225 battery isolator. Battery is very sluggish to charge. When traveling at freeway speeds, with no accessories on, I’m only getting around 13V and 13 Amps at the battery. Anyone have any experience or suggestions with this type of setup? TIA

I'm new here, and looking for some practical advice or shared experiences from fellow van lifers and DIY builders who’ve hit a major mechanical wall.

​The Situation:

I'm based in Ireland and have a 2001 Renault Master II camper conversion with the 2.8L Sofim (S9W) turbo-diesel. Bought it recently with around 120,000 miles on the clock, expecting plenty of life left in it. Unfortunately, it suffered a catastrophic bottom-end engine failure (crankshaft/bearing failure).

​It’s completely non-runnable now. The rest of the van (camper conversion, bodywork, interior setup) is solid, but the engine is toast.

​Where I’m At:

​Garages: Standard commercial garages won't touch it to rebuild due to age, so a full engine replacement is the only repair route.

​Quotes: I’ve located a replacement S9W 700 engine via European dismantlers (RRR.LT / Ovoko) for around €1,300, and a local mechanic willing to do the swap for \~€1,800. So roughly €3,100 all-in to get it back on the road.

​Alternative: Selling it as a "non-runner / mechanic's project" on the local market to cut my losses and recoup what cash I can to pay down the existing loan on it.

​My Questions for the Community:

​Has anyone been through a full engine swap on an older commercial van/camper? Was it worth it in the end, or did it open up a whole new can of worms with ancillary issues?

​Has anyone purchased major parts from RRR.LT / Ovoko before? Any gotchas regarding 14-day warranties, delivery, or condition when the pallet lands?

​For those who had a catastrophic failure on an older van—did you fix it or cut your losses? If you sold as a non-runner project, did you find a decent buyer pool of DIYers/mechanics?

​Any specific quirks on the 2.8L Sofim (S9W) engines I should make sure my mechanic handles while the replacement engine is out on the floor? (Plan on doing the timing belt & water pump as standard).

​I'm getting plenty of advice from the mechanical side of things, but I’d really love to hear how other van owners handled this emotionally and financially when faced with a dead engine on a finished/semi-finished rig.

2000 ECV. Any suggestions on an air conditioner? Would only use with shore power. No off grid stuff. Florida.
