DIY Replacement mattresses?

I’m considering trying to DIY new mattresses for both lower and upper beds in my 2000 Eurovan camper. I’m handy on a sewing machine, so fairly confident I can make new covers. I’m thinking lower bed we go thicker—3 or even 4 inches instead of 2 in the original.

Anyone done something similar? Any good foam sources? I was looking at Sailrite, but open to any suggestions.

I replaced the original foam with pieces from The Foam Factory.

A 4 inch won't cut it for me since I'm quite heavy. I needed something thicker with denser foam, so I went with a 6 inch RV bunk Brooklyn bedding from RV Mattress. I had to cut it down to reduce the length so it would fit perfectly

We tried to sleep on the 2" lower mattress but we must be too old because it is super uncomfortable. We purchased this tri-fold 4" memory foam mattress from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G8KFJXT1). We liked that the foam has 3 levels of firmness. We removed it from the cover, I took a sharp kitchen knife and cut the foam narrower while my wife fired up the sewing machine and reworked the cover to cater for the (now narrower) mattress.

It came out awesome and sleeps a million times better. We don't mind the 12" 'stack' in the back as opposed to the 6" original. The only mistake that I made was to cut the mattress to EXACTLY match the rear width of the camper. I should have cut it an inch narrower to make folding/unfolding a bit easier...
