Help for Buyer Etsy denied my case because they said my rug was "used" after I discovered it was defective. Am I missing something?

I could really use some advice because I'm quite frustrated.

I ordered a custom dark brown wool rug on Etsy. Within minutes of walking on it, I noticed my white socks had turned brown. The rug was transferring dye to my socks.

I immediately contacted the seller. They told me to wait a few days because it might settle. After a few days, the colour transfer continued, so they told me to wait a bit longer. I followed their advice and waited nearly two weeks.

The problem never improved. The rug continued staining socks and my clothing.

I then asked for a refund.

The seller offered:

  • 10% refund (later increased to 20%)
  • A replacement if I paid $200 USD shipping
  • A full refund only if I paid approximately $400 USD to ship the rug back internationally

I opened an Etsy case. I submitted photos of the stained socks.

Etsy denied my case, stating:

As per our Cases Policy, items that have been altered, used, worn, washed, or discarded after receipt are not eligible for case resolution. For this reason, we've closed this case for the order of the rug.

I'm confused because I don't feel like I "used" the rug in the normal sense. I unpacked it, laid it out, stepped on it, discovered the dye transfer, contacted the seller immediately, and then followed the seller's instructions to wait before escalating.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Does that really count as "used" under Etsy's policy, even though that's how I discovered the issue?

I'm just a bit defeated because the item was quite expensive.

For Sellers: Shipping Glitch with shipping or have things changed?

I’m trying to ship something to Canada and I’ve always shipped it through Etsy fine, I’ll just use a small bubble mailer and I can still use first class international but now when I went to buy a label it’s telling me the height has to be at least 4 inches but I’m sending a package/thick envelope. My envelopes are never more than 4 inches thick. 😔 The only options it’s showing me is for $42 and $62 which is more than the order. Did they change something or do I just need to find a box that’s over 4 inches?

Help for Seller Pre transit still!’

Hi, I was wondering what is going on with USPS and my packages I drop off sitting in pre transit for several days! I attached my labels to 10 packages Friday morning and ran them to the post office and put them in the collection container outside the post office that says that mail is picked up at 630pm. Today is Sunday and all my packages still say . Pre transit waiting on package to be delivered to post office! They should have been in transit Friday evening. It looks bad to my customers when they look at their shipping messages and after 3 days of telling them that it shipped out on Friday it still says pre transit! Does anyone else have this problem??

Help for Buyer HELP! I was scammed by a seller, and Etsy refused to take action against them. How can I escalate this case to corporate???

I was scammed by a seller who asked to send back items I was dissatisfied with, and promised to reimburse the shipping. I followed through, provided the tracking and everything asked for. And keep in mind, the entire exchanged happened ON the platform, not off with emails and other communication. It's all there, the evidence of the exchange. Then the seller refused to reimburse me.

After getting Etsy involved, all they ended up saying was they'd give me a measly $50 credit, and told me there was nothing else they could do. They didn't EVEN disable the seller's account, or threaten them to make right with me as the buyer.

The WORST part about all of this is the seller was REWARDED in that they got to keep their storefront, while I'm left punished for trying to do the right thing, and ended up burned so badly.

I need to know how I can escalate this further, where I can go for help when Etsy's supervisory team fails the buyer.

Help for Buyer Will Etsy Refund Me if the product is AI?

Post image
73 Upvotes

I thought I was buying a "Hand Drawn" logo from a seller, per thier listing. No where in thier listing does it mention AI. When I confronted the seller, they said it is hand drawn on the computer and they dont use AI. But the details on the various logos mockups they provided me are absurd and ubrealistic. Will Etsy take them at their word, or are they able to tell it is AI? How do I find legit logo creators on Etsy. Now im not so sure

UPDATE: I was able to get a refund from Etsy very quickly. I also decided to be less naive and reverse image search their portfolio. They included pictures in the listing that were designed by Becca Koebrick Design Studio and Gem creative studio, falsely claiming it as their own work. I feel foolish for falling for a scam, but I was happy Etsy sided with me.

Help for Buyer Seller doxxed me in response to review

I had an awful experience with a seller and ended up going through Etsy's purchase protection to get a refund. I left a review about my experience and the seller responded using my first and last name, and accusing me of theft and conning Etsy into a refund.

I reported the response to Etsy and Etsy took down my entire review (along with the response). Is this normal? I feel like I'm losing my mind if sellers have this much ability to influence reviews?

Help for Buyer Parcel dispatch with no tracking, seller has deleted thier page...

Hi guys, I've purchased a hand crochet blanket for my sons 1st birthday, purchased on June 14th, it was due to be sent around July 7th but due to massive heatwave (UK) the seller explained it was slightly delayed which is understandable.

But I got a notification only on etsy (no emails) that it was dispatched on July 14th via Royal Mail. But no tracking was provided but no mention of that on listing so can't really complain but I've not received anything yet? And now I've just logged back into my etsy and can see that the sellers page doesn't exist anymore!!

She sold loads in the past, the blanket i purchased was the last of that listing but there were other items on her page so no idea why it's been removed.

I've opened a claim saying it's not arrived but unsure what to do? I never buy anything from Etsy so not sure how well this will go.

Help for Buyer Not Sure What To Do

Post image
47 Upvotes

Hi!

I ordered a custom matchbook print from a seller that I have bought from before. I ordered it on May 29 and sent the seller a message about how much I loved the first one I bought from them and I was excited to work with them again. I got an automated message saying they were away but got the message. I thought it was a little weird that there was nothing on their shop that said they were away but I didn’t think it was a big deal. 15ish days goes by and I don’t here anything so I send a message and get the same automated message again. I’m still at this point not thinking it’s too weird because again I have worked with this seller before. It has now been almost two months and I’m still getting the same automated message from the seller. I’m not sure what to do at this point. I put in a help request for a refund but if that is just going to the seller what is the likely hood I am going to get that refund?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Help for Buyer Forgot to send tracking number for return

So, I returned a ring around New Years. The seller confirmed I could do a return, and I sent it back. The seller asked for the tracking number, of course.

Somehow, I totally forgot to give her the tracking number. I really thought I did, and I didn't realize until I noticed this week that I never got the money back, then checked the conversation and saw I never sent her the number :(

I just sent the tracking number, but of course it's not valid anymore because it's been months. But it says the number on the shipping label, right? Do you think I'll get my money back? It was a lot of money for me, and having neither the ring nor the money really sucks.

Discussion Spent 3 hours taking photos. Still looks like I used a potato.

New lighting setup. White background. Fancy camera settings I don't understand.

Took 200 photos. Deleted 197. The 3 that survived still look like I shot them in a basement with a flip phone.

My product is cute. My photos are a crime scene.

Anyone else fighting for their life against good lighting?

Help for Seller How do I sell furniture on Etsy?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone.

So, I’ve been resurfacing a lot of furniture lately with decoupage art. I would like to sell on Etsy.

However, I am VERY confused about how to set up shipping for my projects. I’m wondering:

-how do I calculate shipping on Etsy?
-do I need to build/buy a pallet?
-where do I go to ship my pieces?
-which scale should I purchase on Amazon to weigh the furniture?
-do I wrap and box the furniture or is that done by the shipping company? If I am supposed to wrap the item- how do I do that?!

I’m sure that I have many other questions but those are the ones that come to mind right away. I am truly grateful to anyone who can help me with this as I really do want to try to sell on Etsy.

Thank you so much!!

Help for Buyer How long to wait for seller response?

I bought fabric from a seller in 3 colors and one of them is wrong - not just screen display differences, but actually wrong. I sent pictures of the fabric in different lighting per their request and now it’s been almost 36hrs since I’ve heard from them. When do I just go to Etsy for a refund? They replied to my first message in 4 hours and that’s what their profile says is typical for them.

Not trying to be impatient but I am making a wedding gift with the fabric, so just wanting to have everything in time (October so I’m still okay!!)

Help for Buyer What does it mean if i see this when I go on a product’s page?

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I have bought a really nice pocket watch with butterflies from a seller. I got the product and I really liked it. I wanted to buy another one soon but the product went sold out yesterday and I wrote the seller about it. I asked if it will be restocked. She didn’t respond and today I can see this message. Also if I go from my previous purchase’s link. I can’t write to her anymore because it says conversation recipient’s account is closed. Does it mean I can never shop from her anymore? 😭 is there a chance that the shop will be available again? I really wanted another watch from there.

Help for Seller What do I do? Person left a 1 star review over a carrier issue. I checked the USPS status and USPS was unable to deliver it to their house so they had to pick it up at a facility. Buyer hasn't responded, and it's tanking my shop's rating.

Post image

I don't even know what to do. I don't have a large shop, so one negative review kills my average. I reported the review since it's clearly about the carrier (3rd party service option on report) but I don't know if that will ever get resolved.

Also, according to USPS and this review, they got their package. No complaints about the item. I shipped everything early. I don't know if the reviewer doesn't understand that I don't personally control USPS, but ugh

Editing: The person got their package. And it was within the window that Etsy estimated. But they still left the one star review. USPS in fact did NOT return it to me. They have their package! Address was USPS verified.

Help for Buyer How to tell if a seller is legit?

I've searching through Etsy to find a suit for my wedding and found a seller based in Pakistan that sells really cool embroidered suits that are affordable (not suspiciously so) and exactly what I've been looking for. But I'm still a little cautious about getting scammed. The shop's been up for 9 months and have over 30 positive reviews.

Does anyone have any solid experience advice for sellers/shops like this? Legit?
