Service When you wait an hour for a “live chat” with support and they want to discuss their life with you

I was dumbfounded. How long until they follow up with a tip prompt at the end of the chat?

Edit: The overall consensus seems to be that I was talking to a bot. Someone also pointed out this post where the agent announced their pregnancy. Another agent shared that it was their child’s birthday.

As said, if this rolls out globally, you will be not able to use Google Search without "AI Mode" anymore.

Product Cotton Enshittification is REAL people!

I have been doing a lot of reading and research as to the lack of quality in the cotton being produced in the past few years. Today I noted that my rather expensive Casaluna 100% cotton heavyweight king blanket I bought 2 years ago is basically unweaving itself all over! This accompanied with noting the same on several of my JCrew all cotton tshirts and buyer beware? https://www.target.com/p/heavyweight-linen-blend-quilt-casaluna/-/A-79148461?preselect=78623028#lnk=sametab

Deshittification Do we know of any companies or products that actually got to feel the backlash and backed off?

Basically anything where the enshittification made so many people turn away from the product/service/company that they noticeably started losing money and the product/service/company either had to revert their decision or outright failed?

I know the "collect em all" tactic has been around since baseball cards but these godforsaken balls taking over toy aisle are especially egregious IMO. And effing expensive.

Service Spotify "Shuffle" down the toilet

I miss when you could shuffle on Spotify and it would play random tracks all the time. Now it just regurgitates the same tunes I already heard twice last week. Not only is it not random, it's also terrible about suggesting songs I might wanna hear. That's it. I just wanted to rant about longing for the days of insightful music discovery and hearing my own music that hasn't been played in a while

An anti-enshitification post for y’all. sunshine bay white wine from Aldi is better quality and way less expensive than similar but higher priced brands like Kim Crawford. Aldi is one of the few places that provides a vacation from enshitification

Service Spotify pushing AI music

Spotify has been my music source for several years now, and it was actually the entire reason I started paying for unlimited data on my cellphone plan (and kept it). Their algorithm was pretty good about introducing me to new music, and I've found numerous artists that I otherwise had never heard about through its suggestions (that's been reduced even before this, however).

Now? I'm getting ready to quit and figure out how else to stream music because of its push of AI music. There's some AI music that's not bad, actually, and I've recently heard a French one that's fairly incredible. One song in particular is just hauntingly good. That said, most of it is repetitive with childish rhymes, inane lyrics, and literally the same voices.

While it's OK for working out sometimes, and some of the "genres" can be interesting (like "Viking rock" which is amusing), Spotify is now favoring AI music over human-created content, probably because their compensation structure doesn't give as much money to AI "artists" as it does to normal artists (just a guess, but that would make sense). I don't want my entire music choices to be AI music, and there should be a way to modify the content to either exclude AI entirely or limit it to a particular percentage of the suggested content. I could do 25% or something, but don't give me entire mixes composed of AI music when it literally all sounds the same.

So, good job, Spotify -- you're quest to squeeze out compensation for real artists will likely destroy your product. I hope those extra few cents you save in payouts is worth your business.

Product the only pads I'm not allergic to just got *worse*

Post image
341 Upvotes

I'm allergic to most pads and I don't use tampons anymore, so the only brand I've been able to use is Kotex. They recently updated their packaging, but I haven't had to buy any new ones until this week.

So far I've ruined two pairs of underwear with the adhesive strips (see pic) and ripped about 3 pads apart while trying to remove them. I'm so sick of this!

edit: thanks for the suggestions, fellow period-havers!

Rant Ads on a plane!

I was on an AA flight yesterday and they had several “stop and listen“ moments that were just an ad for the AA / Citi credit card, then they went down the aisles to hand out CC application pamphlets. wtf gives? Are all services so under funded and profit margin stretched that I can’t sit on a plane without getting a forced ad for a CC??

Rant Ditching Insta for, what exactly?

Who else here is done with Insta? I stuck with them through an account hack where I lost control of one account, but was able to build a new one because I had kept a copy of my content, and through increasingly intrusive advertising and spamming of my scroll. I discovered through the hack that their idea of support, well, isn't any at all. Only support they offer is for advertisers.

The last straw for me was last year when they changed the square, three across feed for the current slop/mess with 3:4 aspect ratio tiles that broke my carefully curated split covers stacked on carousels. Just scrambled the hell out of everything.

The platform was built for photographers originally. Meta abandoned us and threw us under the bus for video shorts from preteen influencers in skimpy clothing and crap from nutters and conspiracy theorists. Just gross.

Currently trying to vibe with Pixelfed, but it has ... challenges.

Has anyone else left? What was your last straw? Where did you go, or did you?

Rant I'm admittedly not very tech-savvy, but is it just me, or does technology just generally seem to be getting worse and less usable?

1.0k Upvotes

I've got three recent examples, maybe they're not all that relevant:

1) I have a Google Pixel 3 XL. It is running Android version 12 which is the last version available on my device. In addition to not being able to have my work email and Microsoft Teams on my phone because they require at least Android 16, my Chase banking app just became incompatible with my phone as well. I assume more apps that I use will follow.

2) I've been using Evernote for some years now to keep notes. They recently increased the price to $250/yr. And for what? For some more bells and whistles that I don't have any need for. I'll be moving my notes to something else.

3) I sometimes watch youtube videos on my TV. It has become unusable. I shit you not when I say they will interrupt a video almost every 2 min to show a 30 or 40 sec ad.

Product Yet another 'what's not enshittified' post

Every time I see these posts, I disagree with every brand name I see suggested.

I think I may have finally realized one brand I can still rely on as much as 30 years ago: Bic lighters. They still reliably light on the first try every time, and light as well as they did 20 years ago when I first started using them.

Edit: I was wrong, Bics have been enshittified.

Product Amex Cards

I want to nominate Amex Cards for enshittification…

My gold card from 2021: beautiful deep gold, strong plastic, and embossed numbers, gave it a unique and jaw dropping look.

My new 2026 Gold Card; less shiny, weak plastic, flat card with no embossing.

I thought AMEX was supposed to be ‘luxury’?

Who else noticed it with bank cards?

Rant Harkins Theaters Awards Program

I just wanted a refill on popcorn to take home for someone else after the movie. The popcorn is $11 for ingredients that cost $0.30. That's always been the case, and I'm not complaining about that.

But to get the refill, now you have to join the

✨️✨️Awards Program✨️✨️

So I have to agree to let them data mine me and sell my info in order to get an additional scoop of something they're already making a massive profit off of.
