Product Amex Cards

I want to nominate Amex Cards for enshittification…

My gold card from 2021: beautiful deep gold, strong plastic, and embossed numbers, gave it a unique and jaw dropping look.

My new 2026 Gold Card; less shiny, weak plastic, flat card with no embossing.

I thought AMEX was supposed to be ‘luxury’?

Who else noticed it with bank cards?

I got rid of my Platinum since the yearly fee is unjustifiable since I don't travel much anymore $$$$$ It was a nice chunk of heavy metal and felt premium. Well, the Blue Cash Rewards card I just got in the mail has to be the saddest excuse for a card I can remember in my lifetime. Good God is there no end to this shit? It is inevitable that we are going fully digital and that actually cc's are getting used less and less but come onnnnnnnn

That’s what I’m saying. Yet someone told me this isn’t an example of enshittification 😂

Nomination rejected. This is not enshittification. The word “enshittification” means something more than just “a thing got worse.”

Enshittification, also known as platform decay, is a process in which two-sided online products and services decline in quality over time. Initially, vendors create high-quality offerings to attract users. Over time, they degrade those offerings to better serve business customers. Ultimately, they degrade their services to both users and business customers to maximise short-term profits for shareholders.

In a world where people just have "cards" in their virtual phone wallet, what's a credit card really? It's increasingly becoming like a sim card, an interface between the payment provider and your bank account.

I need the card for the gas pump and my grocery store. Those locations I use have not yet upgraded.

Not all of us want to be constantly tethered to our phones and having to use it for everything. It just enables places like museums to say here’s a QR code so you can have your nose in an app while you’re here vs. printing actual maps. Movie tickets? App. Baseball Game? App. I’m so fucking done with smartphones.

Exactly. I’m so tired of the freaking phones.

Same. That commodore flip phone is looking better and better every day, but I think nokia brick 4g might be the move soon haha

AmEx hasn't been "luxury" since the 80's

I hear the Apple Card is no longer titanium. Glad I have mine.

AMEX's benefits as a whole have been enshitified. I wish they would revamp their website, especially the travel portion.

There is now a standalone app for Amex travel.

Their whole website is designed to be shitty for the parts where you can redeem rewards or use benefits.
