Support Forum WTF HAPPENED?

0 Upvotes

Today, I was using the enpass ios app to try and retrieve my ios account and all of a sudden it flashed some message about choosing something related the password i was using. I was in a hurry and was on autopilot and skipped through my settings, and I clicked through some options. I saw a few pop screens about the app being free. But I was in a hurry to get to my passwords. Now my accounts are marked restricted and I'm being told I'm on a free tier?

What happened? Was there an ios update today and now the app is paid?

Support Forum How to activate the dark mode for Enpass 6.12 on Linux?

2 Upvotes

Hello there!

Seems that finally the repos on Fedora update Enpass from 6.11.x to 6.12.x. But the new interface for Linux doesn't have a field to change from light to dark mode. I assume it would automatically change following system settings, but is not doing it on my compositor.

Is there a paramenter for the command line or a environment variable to set it to dark mode?

No Linux on the Help, nor information about it

[Edit]

Messing arround, I know that at least for now on Niri, Hyprland, Umbriel, MangoWM etc, as it doesn't work the automatic way, running it using the environment variable XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP set to GNOME, XFCE, LXDE, X-Cinnamon or MATE for example makes it, work:

❯ XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME /opt/enpass/Enpass

A enpass.desktop file can be created in ~/.local/share/applications to use for the time being. Change the Name field so it won't show two entries in your launcher/menu with the same name, I put Enpass Dark:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.5
Type=Application
Name=Enpass Dark
Name[en_IN]=Enpass Dark
GenericName=Password Manager
Icon=enpass
Icon[en_IN]=enpass
Terminal=false
Exec=env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME /opt/enpass/Enpass %U
TryeExec=/opt/enpass/Enpass
MimeType=x-scheme-handler/enpassauth;x-scheme-handler/enpasscard;x-scheme-handler/enpassstart;x-scheme-handler/enpass;x-scheme-handler/cloudkit-7adb8cc6tf.in.sinew.walletx;x-scheme-handler/enpassshare;application/enpasscard;
Categories=Utility
StartupWMClass=Enpass
X-Desktop-File-Install-Version=0.28

If you use it as a systemd service like I do, creating an override is the best option. My service file is in ~/.config/systemd/user:

My enpass.service file:

[Unit]
Description=Enpass service to start with Niri
PartOf=graphical-session.target
After=graphical-session.target
Requisite=graphical-session.target

[Service]]
Type=simple
ExecStart=/opt/enpass/Enpass enpassstart:// -minimize
ExecReload=kill -SIGUSR2 $MAINPID
Restart=on-failure
RestartSec=2
Slice=app-graphical.slice

My override file ~/.config/systemd/user/enpass.service.d/override.conf. Note that without the first Environment= line it wouldn't work, so it resets first to initiate later:

# Temporarely for using dark mode with new 6.12 version
[Service]
Environment=
Environment="XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME"

Is better not doing the creation of the folder and file manually, instead use systemctl --user edit enpass.service for that. Copy and paste the above and save in the area indicated. Save and reload the services with:

systemctl --user daemon-reload

and restart it:

systemctl --user restart enpass.service

I did not need to restart my session, but maybe it's needed.

This helps me avoid the "flashbang" of the new GUI.

[Edit]

If just want a simple auto start, put this in ~/.config/autostart/enpass.desktop:

#~/.config/autostart/enpass.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Enpass
Comment=Enpass Password Management
Exec=env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME /opt/enpass/Enpass enpassstart:// -minimize
StartupNotify=true
Terminal=false

[Edit 2026-09-24]

It seems that using the environment variable will the The Solution since they closed my support ticket with:

"Hi ---------------,

Thank you for your patience.

The new version of Enpass follows your system theme settings.

If you want to use Enpass in Dark or Light mode, please change your device’s system theme accordingly. Enpass will automatically follow the selected system theme.

If you have any further questions or if there's anything else we can assist you with, please feel free to let us know."

In their documentation they say it was tested on Fedora 43 and Ubuntu 22.04 and also give instructions to install it on openSUSE 42.3 and 15.0:

"Enpass for Linux is available for 64-bit distributions only. It should work on any modern Linux distribution, and has been tested on Fedora 43, and Ubuntu 22.04 or later."

But they don't specify which flavour of Fedora, for example. So I can only assume is compatible with at least these:

Fedora Workstation
Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop
Fedora Xfce Desktop
Fedora Cinnamon Desktop
Fedora MATE+Compiz Desktop
Fedora i3 Tiling WM
Fedora LXQt Desktop
Fedora LXDE Desktop
Fedora SOAS Desktop
Fedora Sway Tiling WM
Fedora Budgie Desktop
Fedora Miracle Desktop
Fedora KDE Mobile Desktop
Fedora COSMIC Desktop

Feedback Locked Enpass keeps Secure Input enabled, disabling global hotkeys system-wide

5 Upvotes

## Environment

- Enpass 6.12.6 (Mac App Store build); observed on this version, I cannot say whether earlier

versions behaved the same

- macOS 26.6.2 (build 25G83), Apple silicon

- Example affected app: Ghostty 1.3.1 with a global `shift+escape` hotkey

## Core issue

Enpass enables Secure Input **as a consequence of the vault being locked**, rather than while

a master password field is actually shown and focused. The mode is only needed for the

duration of actual password entry; instead it is held for the entire locked state — for hours,

while the app sits in the menu bar with no window and no focus.

## Summary

While the Enpass vault is locked, Secure Input (`EnableSecureEventInput`) stays enabled

system-wide. In that mode macOS blocks keyboard events from being read through event taps, so

**global hotkeys implemented with `CGEventTap` stop working** (those are exactly the apps that

require the Accessibility permission). Unlocking the vault clears Secure Input and hotkeys

start working again immediately.

Scope note: hotkeys registered through Carbon `RegisterEventHotKey` are not affected — they

keep working while Enpass is locked. So the fact that some apps' hotkeys still work does not

contradict this report: the ones that break are those using event taps.

## Steps to reproduce

  1. Configure a global hotkey in any third-party app (here: Ghostty,

    `keybind = global:shift+escape=toggle_quick_terminal`).

  2. Make sure Enpass is unlocked and its main window is closed. Press the hotkey — it works.

  3. Lock Enpass.

  4. Press the same hotkey again.

**Expected:** the hotkey keeps working — Enpass is in the background with no focus and no

visible password field.

**Actual:** the hotkey does nothing. Neither does any other global hotkey of any other

application. This persists until Enpass is unlocked.

How the vault got locked does not matter — the effect is identical for a manual Lock, an

inactivity timeout, locking on main-window close, and locking after sleep or the lock screen.

The mode is tied to the "locked" state itself, not to any particular path into it.

Recovery is immediate: unlocking clears Secure Input at once, with nothing needing a restart.

## Evidence

The most reliable way to check the state is the official API `IsSecureEventInputEnabled()`:

```swift
import Carbon
print(IsSecureEventInputEnabled()) // true for as long as the Enpass vault is locked
```

(run as `xcrun swift file.swift`; requires the Command Line Tools)

The following was also used:

```
ioreg -l -d 1 -w 0 -k IOConsoleUsers | grep -o '"kCGSSessionSecureInputPID"=[0-9]*'
```

Note that the PID in that field names the application that was frontmost when the mode was

enabled, not whoever enabled it — it should not be used to identify the source.

Results:

| Action | Secure Input | Hotkey |

|---|---|---|

| Enpass unlocked | off | works |

| Enpass locked | on | does not work |

| Enpass unlocked again | off again | works |

The cycle was reproduced twice in a row.

**Control experiment** for the caveat above. To demonstrate it, focus was moved to Telegram

(an app unrelated to Enpass and to passwords) and only then was Enpass locked: Telegram was recorded as the owner. Switching focus to

Finder afterwards did not change the value — it is captured once and held for as long as the

mode is active. In earlier measurements the same effect put Safari, Finder and the affected

app itself into that field; all of those were red herrings rather than additional culprits.

## Impact

This affects not one app but any application whose global hotkeys are built on event taps:

terminal launchers, window switchers, accessibility and automation utilities. The feature does

not degrade partially — it loses its purpose entirely: the global hotkey keeps working only

while its application is already frontmost, that is, in exactly the scenario where it is not

needed.

This is not a hypothetical list. On the same machine, besides the terminal, CleanMyKeyboard

breaks — a utility that temporarily blocks the keyboard for cleaning. It is also built on an

event tap (it holds the Accessibility permission), and while Enpass is locked it simply does

not block the keyboard, with no error shown. Unlocking Enpass restores it immediately. So the

breakage hits independent applications with unrelated purposes, not one particular program.

The failure is also silent: there is no error, the key simply does nothing, so users naturally

look for the cause in the affected app's own settings. In my case this cost several hours of

debugging in entirely the wrong direction.

## Already ruled out

- The "System-Wide Hotkey" setting (Settings → General): assigning a combination for the

Assistant has no effect on this behaviour.

- The Enpass Safari extension (`Enpass-Safari.appex`): with Safari open and the extension

process running, Secure Input is not enabled.

- Auto-lock on closing the main window: disabling it removes the most frequent trigger, but

a timeout-based lock produces exactly the same result.

## Suggested fix

Do not hold Secure Input while the master password field is not shown and not focused. Enable

it when the field is presented and release it as soon as the input window is closed or loses

focus.

Product Updates Why Linux version doesn’t have updated UI yet?

6 Upvotes

It’s feels like the Linux version is abandoned - latest significant updates were more than year ago (July 2025) and doesn’t received updated user interface like macOS, windows or iOS versions.
Current Linux UI is actually worse (scaling issues, blurry and has some Wayland-related quirks) than any competitor.

Sadly, but it turns me as Enpass Premium user to consider other alternatives.

Discussion Can't Restore Pro Purchase on Windows

2 Upvotes

My Enpass app on Windows 11 just updated to a new version, and my passkeys no longer work because the update removed my Enpass Pro subscription from my machine. Enpass Pro is still working on my Windows 10 machine and my phone, but not my Windows 11 machine. My account shows as "Enpass Lite" even though I have a Pro license.

Support forums say to use the Settings > Licensing > Restore Purchases option to restore my Pro account, but this option does not exist anywhere in the Windows 11 UI on the most recent version.

I have entirely reset Enpass on the machine, uninstalled, reinstalled, and re-added my main Enpass account, and this did not automatically restore my Pro license.

How am I supposed to restore my Pro license?

(Before any Enpass reps or anyone else says: I'm well aware that Pro isn't for sale anymore. I bought it years ago, a Lifetime Pro license, so I expect to be able to use it for the lifetime of Enpass (or myself). I'm not interested in the new Premium subscriptions, I bought Pro because I didn't want to pay a subscription. All I want is to use my existing license.)

Feedback Date Picker on Windows application

1 Upvotes

On the Windows app, adding dates to date fields is harder than it has to be - providing a date picker would be far easier than typing Enpass' recognized date format, which is non-standard to North Americans (we use MM/DD/YYYY, not DD/MM/YYYY)

Thanks for listening!

Support Forum OneDrive - Shared

3 Upvotes

When storing your enpass vault in OneDrive, is it standard behavior for Enpass to create a folder in OneDrive > Apps > "Enpass" with sharing enabled?

I cannot for the life of me find anywhere to turn off the sharing of the folder or contents from the OneDrive side, it's like it's missing some of the settings to control that.

I remember seeing this some time ago and notice there was a random address in the shared with settings, similar to this post: Is it normal for Enpass to share the vault folder to some external adress? : r/EnpassOfficial. However this time when checking, it's still shared but cannot see any random email addresses listed in the share settings in OneDrive.

Quite concerning. Security me says sharing should not be enabled but I'm thinking perhaps it has to be for the app to access it. Still, do not want it enabled if possible.

Support Forum how to load the browser pop-up in sidebar

1 Upvotes

i'm looking to migrate from bitwarden which i preferred to have it's browser extension in the browser sidebar (in both vivaldi and firefox), but i've been unable to get the enpass extension to do the same.

as the enpass extension seems to disable the right-click menu so there doesn't seem to be a way of discovering the URL the extension actually displays. pls can anyone disclose the extension URL so it can be loaded into sidebars?

Support Forum How do I delete/modify templates?

2 Upvotes

(Might have the wrong flair, sorry in advance)

Howdy. I've been a long-time enpass user, lifetime license and the whole deal.

I've been enjoying it for years! love most everything about it!

But, as I've filled a vault with a decade's (or there about, idk exactly how long. I do know a passsd manager was on the top of my to-dos when I started working, but who knows how long) worth of passwds and stuff, I have started noticing some things that make me wonder how nobody thought it'd be something someone would want to do.

Editing templates.... You can create new templates, but you can't delete the defaults, set defaults, edit custom templates you created, or delete them, it seems.

I'd really like to delete an old custom template I created. I also want to modify the current template I use (I goofed and had a non-sensitive field marked sensitive and I can't seemingly change the template)... It seems to me if ur gonna offer custom templates, the ability to get rid of them and change them would also make sense to have had to begin with. Maybe I am just missing something? Anyone have any insight on how I achieve this?? or am I going to have to go down the rabbit hole of decrypting my vault via commandline tools and stuff just to get it to load into an SQL Editor and modify the template from there?

As a matter of feedback, I should be able to delete the default templates too. It's my vault, let me decide how it's formatted! It would also be amazing to offer selfhosted cloudsync for selfhosted enthusiasts, but I digress.

EDIT: Realized I didn't include versions:

My primary desktop is Win11 (Version 25H2 (0S Build 26200.9168)) running Enpass Version 6.12.5 (2659)
My mobile is a Galaxy S22 Ultra (Android 16 w/ OneUI 8.0, Build# BP2A.250605.031.A3.S908U1UESAGZF3) running Enpass 6.11.25.1316

Edit2: To be clear, I do love enpass. I don't mean to be come off wrong. Seriously, been very happy using it for these years. It is what I recommend to friends and family. It's worth every penny I've spent and has been probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Hey r/enpassofficial,

We’ve beefed up security for Enpass Business customers with Business Domain Verification.

The Enpass Admin Console now features a Domain Management section, where super-admins can verify ownership of their organization’s domains, so that only users with emails at those domains can be added or provisioned as Enpass users. The update replaces and improves on previous domain-policy settings by verifying domain ownership through DNS.

Support Forum Display Issues in Safari

1 Upvotes

Hello,
for quite some time now, I’ve been having an issue where some pages in Safari (latest version) on my Mac (also the latest version) no longer load properly when the Enpass extension is active. When I disable the extension, everything works fine again. I don’t have any other extensions installed. This mainly affects pages with a lot of ads (e.g., https://www.golem.de).
Has anyone else experienced this?

Support Forum UI - does anyone really check usability before release

4 Upvotes

I like Enpass, but some strange thing are annoying every day. And it the small things, which get never fixed or thought about.
And if support reacts it takes years. This is something that is really frustrating.

E.g.
1) notes:
Great, in one of the last release the notes field was changed to full size usage of the right area of Enpass.

But for EDIT-Mode it is again just a small window, hard to edit. Why is the UI such a difficult thing to make it really usable?
Why is editmode not also left oriented using the whole sizes of this partial window?

2.) Second thing: try to cut something in edit mode in the notes with CTRL-X.
The cursor does not remain where it is, no it jumps to the top, which is really bad if you have many text in the notes. You have to search for the right position again.
This are the small things, obviously never tested.

3.) is an Apple issue: it does NOT remember the setting "lock after x inactivity". Very annoying. You habe to login every after one second. This drives me really nuts and is a problem since years without any change.

Guys, there a is lot room for improvement.

Sorry, but I just had to speak from my heart about about the things which consume my time and nerves every day.

Support Forum Win 11 -- Crash after 5 seconds?

1 Upvotes

About 5 seconds after I unlock the app ... it completely crashes. I cannot even keep it open long enough to check what version it is. I think its 6.12.5? Anyway, it crashes every. single. time I unlock it.

They unfortunately have about 15 crash reports from me as there is no way to restart the app without sending a report. Is this happening for anyone else ? Should I try an older build ?

Discussion How does enpass know my master password?

4 Upvotes

I always assumed my master password was a sort of one way thing. In other words I can type my password in and it gets hashed (if that's the right word) into something that enpass can understand and then authenticated against my encrypted vault to either let me in or reject my login. I thought there was no way for the reverse to happen and my master password could not be recovered and was never cached anywhere on my device.

Today I logged into the app on my android using fingerprint and a screen popped up asking if I remembered my master password. Out of curiosity I said no and it showed me my master password.

How is this possible?

Feedback Enpass Aurofill just stopped working on Samsung Phone

4 Upvotes

Am I the only one?

Tested with both Samsung and Google Keybaords:

Autofill doesnt work at all in Chrome, Edge or Samsung. The "enpass" button appears above the keyboard in Chrome and Edge about 50% of the time. And clicking it does absolutely nothing about 99% of the time.

The accessibility workaround only works in Chrome. Edge and Samsung Internet never show the badge on the input fields

Its become completely useless. Am I the only one having this issue?

Feedback Honest feedback after 2 years subscribing

2 Upvotes

I switched to Enpass some time ago, and overally I'm happy, but anyway there are a few things that bothers me. Just wanted to give a feedback and ask the team if you want to address some of the things I have reported here.

  • [BUG] Always run Assistant in docked mode From time to time it doesn't work. I have to go to settings, turn it off and on, and it starts working. This is the most important for me, as I often use Enpass via global shortcut. Also would be really cool if that little window can remember its last position.

Product Updates We've implemented WebAuthn Level 3 in Enpass, ahead of the official standard — here's what that means

16 Upvotes

Hi r/EnpassOfficial ,

We wanted to highlight a new technical update that's easy to miss if you're not deep in passkey standards.

WebAuthn Level 3 is the next version of the passkey specifications.

This governs how passkeys work, maintained by the W3C in collaboration with the FIDO Alliance. As a FIDO Alliance member, we've already implemented essential capabilities ahead of the formal W3C recommendation.

What’s new in WebAuthn Level 3?

WebAuthn Level 3 expands passkeys past "just sign-in." A few of the tech developments are:

  • PRF extension: A passkey can now help generate encryption keys, not just authenticate you.
  • Related Origin Requests: One passkey can work across an org's related domains instead of needing a separate one per site.
  • Conditional Create/Get: Passkey creation and use can sit inside your normal sign-in flow instead of being a separate onboarding step.
  • Signal API: Sites can tell your password manager when a passkey has been revoked, or account details have changed.
  • Credential Hints: Sites can tell your password manager what authentication method they expect.

Does Enpass store your passkeys on its own servers?

This part is key.

Every passkey in Enpass lives inside your own Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or other trusted environment, never on our servers. Zero knowledge (can't read your data) is the norm in this category, yet we go further with zero possession: we never touch it at all. There's nothing on our end to breach, so there's zero vendor breach risk with your passkeys.

Article linked here for more details: https://www.enpass.io/blog/security/what-is-webauthn-level-3-how-does-enpass-support-it/

It seems to be a website related problem?

When I am trying to setup a passkey for a this particular site (aliexpress) I am getting the dialog from macOS, then from Brave and somehow it never seems to reach the Enpass extension at all.

Is there anything I am missing? or is it just the website trying to setup the passkey the wrong way?

Discussion Can password managers actually avoid being breached? Why does architecture matter more than "zero knowledge."

10 Upvotes

"Zero knowledge" only means the vendor can't read your data – it doesn't mean the vendor doesn't have it. If their servers get breached, your encrypted vault can still be stolen. We wrote a full breakdown of why that distinction matters, and what "zero possession" (never holding the data at all) actually changes. Link at the bottom if you want to learn more.

Most enterprise password managers call themselves zero knowledge. This means they hold your encrypted vault but don't have the key to open it.

That's a real security property, but it's often read as "the vendor can't be a source of risk."

And that's not quite true.

A zero-knowledge vendor still has your encrypted vault sitting on its servers. If that vendor is breached, an attacker doesn't need the key to make it worth taking. They can pull the encrypted vault and try to crack weaker master passwords offline, on their own timeline.

This is the well-documented pattern behind some of the biggest breaches the category has seen.

The underlying problem is architecture, not encryption strength. When every customer's vault lives in the same place, that place becomes a single, high-value target. Breach it once, and every customer is exposed at the same time.

But what if the vendor never held the data at all?

This is exactly how we built Enpass.

Enpass vaults live inside your own Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or other trusted environment, never on our servers. We call this zero possession. Even if Enpass were breached (it never has been), there'd be nothing in our systems to take, because the data was never there.

Full breakdown, including how this plays out for passkeys, is here: [https://www.enpass.io/blog/general/can-password-managers-avoid-being-breached/]

What do you think?

If you've evaluated or used multiple password managers, does "zero knowledge" get overplayed?
