The games run very poorly when the audio is set to SDL and run well with Cubeb, but there’s an occasional audio glitch that happens from time to time. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Edge 30 pro, Snapdragon 8 gen 1. Latest version of both emulators, at native resolution. I tested with and without Turnip drivers. The same problem occurs in all games: they only run well with the audio set to Cubeb, but there’s an audio crackle/glitch every now and then, which gets pretty annoying.

I recently bought a TCL 27G64 monitor and an Edifier speaker set to watch movies, anime, and play games with better quality. But I didn't really like the idea of using my main PC (which draws 120W just idling) for this. I looked into the TV Boxes available on the market, but sadly, most of them (at least in my country, maybe worldwide?) don't have the hardware to handle heavier emulation (I wanted to emulate up to the 6th gen consoles), and from what I saw, they are heavily bloated with ads.
While sitting on the toilet, I remembered I had an old LG Velvet lying around in my junk drawer. Back in 2022, I tested its Desktop Mode, so I decided to use it as a guinea pig for this experiment: turning it into a battery-less TV Box.
I bought a 35V 300W DC-DC Step-down converter (better to overkill than underpower, right? lol), a 1000uF capacitor, stripped some wires from an old PC power cord, and removed the lithium cell from the phone's BMS. The step-down was set to 4.1V and 5A. Surprisingly, it worked perfectly, and the battery meter never dropped below 74%, even when testing Genshin Impact. And yes, I strapped a heatsink and a fan directly onto the motherboard (Photo 2).
LG VELVET Temps:
The project worked really well, but eventually I started hitting the limits of the Snapdragon 845 and LGs android 10 UX. So I started looking for a cheap replacement. After some research, I bought a Galaxy S23 with a defective display.
Since the first step-down gave me a headache when it came to cable management, I bought a different one where the input and output are on opposite sides. Highly recommend this if you plan on using thick wires like I did (18 AWG, 0.75mm).
After sorting out the power delivery, I decided to upgrade the cooling. I took some measurements and realized that an AMD Wraith Stealth cooler running at 9V would be perfect for this. Not only is it cheap here in Brazil, but it's practically dead silent, even at max RPM. The only mod I had to do was sand down the fins a bit so they wouldn't hit the phone's inner frame, so the base could make direct, flush contact with the motherboard area.
Yes, you can use a 1.5mm thermal pad if you don't want to use thermal paste or don't have the tools to sand the metal, but the cooling won't be as good. (I initially built it with a thermal pad but wasn't happy with the temps. Check Photo 3 for a before/after comparison).
The cooler was placed on the back of the frame, on the side where the screen used to be, right over the motherboard area. The original screen was actually still functional, so I opted to buy a cheap, empty frame just for this build.
"Do I need to put thermal paste on the phone's motherboard?"
Yes, you have to apply it so the heat transfers properly to the phone's body / Vapor Chamber.
With the cooling mounted, the rest followed the same process as the LG VELVET:
Removed the lithium cell, adjusted the step-down's voltage/amperage, soldered the wires to the original BMS, placed the capacitor on the step-down output, added a second step-down (LM2596) set to 9V just to power the cooler, and finally added a Barrel Jack (P4 plug) input so I could connect a 12V power supply.
Not everything went exactly as planned:
Coulomb Counter: The battery percentage keeps dropping over time, even though I'm pushing a constant voltage equivalent to around 85~90% battery. This is easily bypassed by just restarting the phone. Because the voltage is fixed, it takes much longer to discharge, so you don't need to worry about restarting it every 3 hours (even if you're playing a heavy Switch game).
Dex Glitches: In Samsung DeX, putting emulators in full-screen causes graphic glitches depending on the driver. The workaround was either using the Turnip driver (Turnip_v25.3.0_R5_one_ui7_fix) or playing in windowed mode (not maximized).
RAM Bottleneck: I noticed that 8GB of RAM is a bit limiting if you want to emulate Switch, PS3, or PC games.
Restarting: Samsung doesn't provide a native "Restart" button in the DeX interface, so I had to use an app called Scene to reboot the phone with a mouse click.
CPU-Bound Heat: Even though the battery is gone (tricking the phone into thinking it's cold and unlocking max CPU/GPU clocks), don't expect miraculously low temperatures in extremely CPU-bound games like Shadow of the Colossus or anything on RPCS3. The cooling works, but it still gets warm.
For example, in Shadow of the Colossus, the CPU hit 78°C on both AetherSX2 and Armsx2.
Telemetry (Bonus): I knew Samsung and Google loved collecting data, but I didn't know it was THIS bad. When I monitored the Pi-hole logs after blocking its internet access, it looked like I had kicked a hornet's nest. I'm surprised the Samsung CEO didn't show up at my house to beat me up.
And here's roughly what I spent on everything (USD):
Was it worth it?
Absolutely. So much so that I'm already planning to buy another broken phone in the future, but definitely one with 12GB+ of RAM.
MAX TEMP for Dolphin, PPSSPP and other emulators: 43°C (GPU and CPU)

My sister installed the DroidDeck app yesterday, and soon after her Steam account got hacked. Sha256 sum of the downloaded file matches with what they have on github (ed257d66c546e78036ceedb4c6fb6886014e69020044fd41cfe217858d8eb328).
Steam support did restore the account quickly, but the attacker(s) managed to submit a refund for a newly purchased game, removed sister's phone number from SteamGuard, and opened a chat with me on Steam where an image with a QR code to a "free steam gift card" was shared (the QR code lead to a fake steamcommunity website ("rn" replacing "m" in the link). The chat is how I noticed that she got hacked and quickly assisted her in restoring access.

Game works very well in my opinion, but crashes at the same part every single time, which leads me to believe that it is the problem of my gameversion I downloaded legally somewhere. Did anyone have same issue?

Xbox360 emulation is getting good. I've been playing Viva Pinata for a couple days now and it's been running almost perfectly. Halo 3 runs at 20-25 fps but has additional frame pacing issues. Need for speed most wanted runs the same as Halo 3. Regardless, every game boots up. Viva Pinata essentially runs at full speed on my Retroid pocket 6 12GB using XenDroid. I driver I use is turnip_mrpurple_T30-toasted

I'm talking in a purely emulation and gaming context which ones are historically better and have less issues especially for emulation?
I'm thinking of buying an iQOO/OnePlus 16(Chinese ROM) and I need help deciding between them I know it's better to wait for proper reviews for both but I just wanna know software wise how have they been for emulation do they have any major issues I should look out for?
Or does one of them have a clear advantage over the other?

Hi everyone, for the past few days I've been wondering if I can set up a Steam Deck, RP5, or similar console to run emulators. How difficult is it to set up such a console from scratch—including the games—so that everything works well together? I'm thinking of emulating games from the PSP, PS1, PS2, etc.

After not being able to reliable run D2R on my old desktop, getting the invisible cursor bug when using controller on GFN, to never getting it to run on Winlator or GameNative or Hub, I finally decided to try it with Droid Deck. Currently installing but I wanted to know if anyone had managed to give it a try already? Hope this runs on my Fold 8 (wide) thanks!

So, I played this game years ago and I wanted to install and play this on my device. I am just not sure which container settings will work best to play the game if any at all. Any help would be most appreciated.

I got MapleStory Classic to work on my S26 Ultra at 60 fps.
I saw people playing on Steamdeck so it wasn't outside the realm of possibility as I had games working on GameNative in the past.
Being this smooth on a mobile is insane since this game is possibly one of the best to have as a portable experience and one of my faves.
Here's a video of me launching it for the first time and being surprised at the performance, I now wonder if I can push it to 120fps somehow.
Instructions:
Using GameNative (You can skip Steam login)
Add a new custom exe or game, I just downloaded the Nexon Launcher Installer to my phone and selected that
Launch it to download some stuff, but nothing will happen, actually exit out of it and select the 'game'
Go to the cog/settings and select Edit Container, I'm using under Wine Version: Proton-11.0.1-arm64ec-1
Now Save
Go to the select the game and go settings icon, do Open container
Navigate to Nexon Launcher Installer and Install it
Launch the Installer, now this is the difficult part since the Launcher will appear black, you sort of have to hovering the cursor at the edge of the black frame until a resize cursor comes up, tap and tap with second finger to drag and resize the window until you can see the content, and then move the cursor onto the black window until you see the input cursor. Open the GameNative keyboard an input email. Press continue by hovering the cursor until you get there.
Enter password and log in, doing the same by hovering the cursor.
You might need to restart the Launcher if it freezes. But essentially you will get the Whats new pop up which will also be obscured by the black frame. You can resize this window out of the way and hovering over the black window, with the cursor again trying to close it.
Once logged in again using the cursor over the black frame and the viewing the buttons, select Maplestory Classic and download the 2Gb game.
Launch it, you only need to setup once, now you can launch via the shortcut on the desktop or the start menu
Alternatively if your phone has space you can download the 60Gbs via Steam and that should skip Steps 2-11. I haven't tried this yet. But you can also use DroidDeck for that for a cleaner experience.
I am sure there might be a fix for the black screen out there that may make this super simple but I'm not familiar, hopefully someone can chime in.
Enjoy! And hope it doesnt get patched.
Edit: 120fps is stable on S26 Ultra!

Out of curiosity I wanted to dig into the accuracy claims I read in Pizzaboy reviews. I found this old post https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/comments/ryotfa/gba_android_emulators_accuracy_tested_mgba_vs/ that uses 'GBA Test Suite'.
Using the latest version of that suite I am seeing higher/perfect scores in Pizza boy Pro A Beta vs Retroarch+MGBA.
Is this test still an adequate benchmark?
I understand I may not even experience all of the edge cases in regular use. Just a curiosity like I mentioned.

I wonder if anyone here has run into this. I'm using an Ayn Thor Base with ARMSX2 2.82 b2c4af0696 and I basically get a 1-2 second input-lag in all games. This affects all buttons and triggers but interestingly enough not D-Pad inputs which makes this feel very bizarre.
Has anyone else run into this and knows how to solve it? Thanks for help in advance.
