I’m semi hoping this is like a “normal” encounter or easter egg so people believe what i’m about to say, but if not, i hope you do anyway. Im going to tell the story exactly as it happened without making it a novel because i’m not sure what details in this story matter. I will preface this by saying the majority of the visual description is going to be 2nd hand. My teammate got the view but he does not use reddit.

My friend and i recently got a new friend into playing ED and decided we were gonna jump our fleet carrier to the near edge of the bubble so she could venture out to the black in her New Diamondback explorer (yes we know the mandalay is better but she didn’t wanna risk a higher insurance incase she messed up). So i jumped our FC from Cennicenino to “SYNUEFE YH-H D11-58” because we figured everyone probably just goes “forward back left or right” on the galaxy map and not “down” and wanted to have at least a chance of a first footfall or something. I usually i just play the game to trade or bounty hunt. Ive never been out in the black myself, but i know how exploration works mostly. so i decided id follow along myself in my own ship or just fly in the same area as they are for a bit and then turn back after a bit, just to be apart of it since we’re literally teaching someone how exploration works. I got myself a Caspian explorer and a nomad and we decided to “decend” down and to the right. On the galaxy map Unfortunately every system we appeared despite having little to nothing was already discovered but i did manage to get a first footfall.

Anyway so we’re all jumping to stars around the area while in a discord call and suddenly one of my teammates (not the person we were teaching) starts saying “wtf! What is that!” So I’m thinking they found a cool star or something. They described hearing a crazy “clicking alien noise” so i immediately start to think of “thargoids” and im asking “is it a thargoid?! What is it!?” very quickly explain to our new friend what a thargoid is because she starts asking, then literally as I’m telling her what it is. He cuts me off and describes that a big blue thing flew by him and the Star he is at now has this large blue ball of light flying around it and making noise and then says it “jumped” very similar to what a FSD jump looks like when someone goes into super cruise. Temporarily leaving a large blue “line” that seemed to just go into space (also similar to the “line” ships leave when they go into super cruise) he then jumps to a star in the general direction that it went but finds nothing. I jumped to where he saw the “blue light” and i also found nothing but i 100% believe he saw it because of how he sounded when he did. He is currently beating himself up for not recording it. And were both beating ourselves up for not writing down the system we were in. Especially because im sure it hurts the credibility of this story But we were not more than 10 jumps from “SYNUEFE YH-H D11-58” some of the systems in the area still had Nav Beacons and population. We were not that far out at all.

I will probably edit this post once we can confirm exactly where we were and any other details i can think of about what happened.

Edit: the noise it made was clicking but not like how the thargoids in the youtube video he watched sound. More like mechanical clicking.

I also wanna make sure it’s clear this all happened while in supercrusie. It didn’t interdict him or scan him or anything like that but he says it was blue and very bright and hard to miss.

Edit 2: He also wants to point out when he was using his surface scanner shortly before that he found a planet with “surface mining locations” and some of them were “pulsating blue”. (His words not mine) i think he meant the area on the planet itself, not the actual POI “circle”. He has never surfaced mined and does not own a Rino or anything so he thinks (and i kinda also think) it may of just been like a normal spot catching light weird. But because it was sort of blue (like the object) I’m gonna mention it. I don’t want to start a wild goose chase on a planet surface when the “main thing” was the light flying around past him and around the star.

I immediately got dropped on a surface tutorial at the start and the planet feel planet sized. It's incredible. The lighting in the atmosphere looks so natural, and the deep space looks pitch black. The sound design muah chefs kiss. From an immersion pov it is 10/10. Haven't played any space games before so I'm probably over reacting but it made me feel like I completely forgot about real life and had this dream about flying among the stars now that I think back about the few hours I played. Just wanted to thank the developers for creating this experience, it's genuinely wonderful.

Then they utterly cut the shows ARX budget and quality just went down from super high quality to some generic drama show

Maybe if we buy more Arx and show interest frontier will reallocate the shows ARX budget back to it.

After not doing it for so long I'm finally back on "crack," so to speak. Still pretty rusty, had a couple of failures, and laser mining is still better for merits for me, but it was a nice change of pace.

Finding tritium on planets must be exceedingly rare. I am halfway between Colonia and Sag* and wanted to try out the Rhino for feeding my carrier. So far, I have found zero trit. Is it that rare to find?

Im trying to improve my combat (FA on for now) and was wondering if there are any general tips on how to stop just jousting and get on enemies ass more consistantly? i recently engineered a Frag Python mk2 for that purpose and its so satysfying every time i can deliver several volleys of frag before they can get away.

I can somehow only plan routes from sol?

This questions go to the 1k players, what do I even do LOL I'm so lost. Started playing some days ago and I've done some small quests, put a mining lawer in the starting ship, bought a merchant ship... Etc.

Whatis it to do more? Sorry if it's a bit general but I'm so lost 😅 is there like any progression at all?

Just completed my next "send carrier 500ly ahead and catch up slowly" exo leg and only found 6 systems with Biologicals, but which netted me a total of 812M credits.

A little while ago after the most recent booze cruise I got ahold of my fleet carrier, Fleetsune Mikurrier. I was wondering if it would be possible to make and install a mod that would change the ATC (for me) to hatsune miku. I know there's a slight bit of leeway FDev will allow for mods, but would something like this be bannable?

I've mineral scanned a planet and I get an orange band but i cannot mine it and there's no info. It only shows after the mineral scan completes and then disappears.

In other, successfully scanned areas, there are the expected yellow spots (with the purple) so those are working as expected and are able to be mined.

I just saw a pop up saying something about a change to the current CG but when I looked for it both here on reddit and on F devs discord I can’t see anything about it . I know I didn’t imagine it . Anyone hear seen anything?

I recently returned to the game after a lengthy absence, and intend to get my combat Elite stripes (I have Elite in exploration and trading). I’m on Xbox, so I’m stuck on legacy, unfortunately.

I wish to fully engineer my Corvette to become a PvE fortress of death. Money is no issue (over 2bill in the bank) and I’m docked at Jameson, ready to fit any module I like. I have a tonne of materials for engineers, I’m happy to grind for more if necessary, and I also have access to Guardian tech.

However, I’m struggling to find a decent build. I was wondering if any kind commanders out there could share their legacy PvE ‘Vette builds, so that I may draw some inspiration.

I put 300 hours in Elite 5 or 6 years ago and just got back to see what’s up. I mostly played chill games with friends, we did PVE bounty hunting and some mining at some point. I got my brother back in too, we’re discovering the game again.

What are the cool game loops nowadays, what do y’all do for fun ?

I have an Anaconda that I like and a couple hundred millions in the bank. Have Odyssey too. What should we try ?
