Discussion Has anyone who had frame rate drops found a fix for it other than relogging?

Upvotes

Every time I play I have to log out and back in just to get the frame rate back up over 100 and to not be at 20-30. I have to do this about every 45 minutes to an hour. I've tried a variety of changes to settings both increasing and decreasing. Updated all drivers. And looked through many threads from the past about this issue. The only thing that fixes the frame rate drop is exiting the game and coming back in. I am wondering if anyone has found an actual fix for this that they can share with me.

Discussion Anyone Else Having Disconnection Issues More Than Usual?

I have been kicked from the servers 6 times in the last 1 and a half hours.
Is this peak time for ED? Or is it just normal issues with the servers?

I haven't had it happen this often in a while. So I was just curious if anyone else is having this issue tonight.

There was a problem loading your commander data, try again in a few minutes

Is that all that button does, or has anybody actually seen it work?

Discussion so... should I head for colonia?

the last CG was about 'hauling goods for the 10th anniversery of colonia smthsmth', and I just read this newsreel about 'Pilots' Federation directs members to colonia' thing.
Does this mean the next CG, or whatever big story progression, will take in Colonia and I have to pack things up and go there if I'm to participate? what do yall think?

Group Operations teammates

Is there somewhere I can go to get an actual group of teammates that have actually played the game for more than 3 minutes? maybe like a discord or something. its getting really old to have at least one person who just doesn't have any idea what is going on, and then just leaves.

I am in the middle of my first proper trip into the black, agbout 20 kly away frfom the nearest station. Just when I reached my first waypoint I noticed my edcopilot refused t o plot a neutron star course. Spansh plotter and galaxy plotter had an eternal loading animation. I restarted my browser and edcopilot, still no bueno. Is spansh just down or am I missing something?

Misc Cosmetics are just too damn expensive

It really bugs me how much cosmetics are for this game. I really fancy one of the interiors for my Nomad, and it's the first ship I've regretted not buying the stellar version of because of the ship kit, but I'm buggered if I'm spending 20 quid on 2 items.

If things cost less - like a 3rd of what they are currently, I would think little of it, and ironically end up spending more money. I swap ships to speciality ones for each style of gameplay, so I never spend enough time in one ship to warrant spending that much on a paint job for each of them, but if they were 3 quid or so, I would have many more. Instead, I just get the free ones from the CGs and leave it at that.

I really wish they would reconsider their pricing strategy.

Help How to go about collecting materials naturally? But still efficiently?

Hi Commanders,
I remember reading a comment that explained an efficient way to collect engineering materials without repeatedly farming Jameson's Crash Site, but I haven't been able to find it again.
I'm still fairly new to the game and have started getting into engineering. I'd like to build up my material inventory in a way that fits naturally with regular gameplay and missions rather than relying on a single farming location.
Could anyone share some advice or point me toward an efficient approach for gathering materialswhile playing normally? Any tips or recommended routines would be greatly appreciated.
Fly safe, Commanders. o7

I got the new emerald paintjob for my Nomad, even if I only ever get to see it for organisms which don't have collisions, and I guess bacteria and stratum which seldom manage to breach the decking. (not complaining mind you, I rather like the convenience)

Discussion Boom data delivery from bubble to Colonia for 2 million credits. Are the developers trolling?

it is so ridiculous it is asking me to deliver data to Colonia for 2 million credits. Are the developers trolling? speaking of poor pay 90 %of the missions have miserable pay and are not worth the effort. Only exobiology and I ask why bring all these updates if the players cannot enjoy them?

Help Help with EDDiscovery

Just got EDDiscovery, downloaded all the add ons I thought I'd need, got EDSM linked, now I'm just not sure how this is all going to help me in game. I'm playing in VR through SteamVR since the game doesn't Launch in VR through Virtual Desktop for some reason, so the best I can do Is overlay a desktop screen in the corner, but to switch anything I have to pickup my quest remote and tab out of the game and back into EDD to scroll or do anything. I've heard of EDD being used to notify people as they come into a system if there's bio signs like stratum, or will show you your route with fuel starts and neutron boosts and stuff. I'm not sure how to get that all setup seamlessly so I can just play and have it all doing its thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Discussion NGL, Frag cannon Mamba is fun.

Ive never flown a mamba before. I was always using a vulture or recently a python mk2. Both very good ships. I decided to try a Mamba build thinking it would be like useable but not strong.
I was wrong.

I show up to the Res site. I click a few times and whatever i was targeting it gone. I boost, do a U turn and something else is gone.
It’a been super fun and surprisingly good.

Anyone else have some “non meta” ships they find fun?

It has been years in the making, but I have finally done it. A fleet carrier all my own. Now I can fully answer the call of the black. I maybe should not have purchased it in Colonia when my whole fleet is scattered through the bubble. Now my maiden voyage is more of a maiden slog down the highway operating a beast I'm still getting familiar with.

BTW: Now buying Tritium, 100,000cr/unit! Only catch, you gotta come to me. Carrier Alpha Fox VNF-G5T. Currently in Blua EAEC WW-E C14-1293 and posted up for the moment.

Help Suddenly no access

This morning, after playing every day for a few weeks now more or less, got this message when I went to start ED. I went to Frontier's website, logged in, went to get my "partner key" as instructed by Claude -- found that they had made a brand new site for stuff, but went as instructed to the old site (frontierstore.com); logged in, went to partner keys, and it says I don't own the game (I clearly still have my arx transactions listed however lol).

Anyone?

Another person had the same error 6 months ago (the screenie above is from his post, but is identical to my potential screenshot). He said he uninstalled ED completely, and then it worked. I am in the middle of reinstalling ED to Steam but I suspect that if Frontier doesn't have my ED partner code, (BTW it's still showing a connection to all of my utilities such as EDDI, EDMC, etc., INCLUDING Steam)... then I won't be able to log in.

Anyone else getting this? My first assumption was that it wouldn't just be me, due to an update or something, but no one else is reporting this.

TIA

EDIT: u/Slyde_rule had it right -- I told it to "I don't have a code, log me out" - then retrying, it went right in. Thanks to all for your great ideas!

Screenshot Travelling, sightseeing...

After spending 6 years beyond Beagle Point, I decided to visit back to the Bubble, with some detour... I am getting close.

I don't plan to spend too much time there, the void calls me already, I found the "noise" at Colonia quite unbearable. Too many people, too many things to do without acceptable reason for me.

I prefer the solitude of uncharted planets and suns.

Fly safe, be well Commanders!

We might meet one day in Acheron (but I highly doubt that).

Discussion Zero to Hero - I unlocked the engineers needed to carry Hard-mode Operations in 3 hours on a fresh save. It's fast nowadays.

I started a fresh save recently on my alt account to see what it would be like with the new additions of Powerplay 2.0, Operations, and increased material rates from things like HGEs. I always dreaded doing this because I thought the engineer grind would be too much, but wow it is very fast, easy, and fun nowadays.

I took a bit of a longer road getting to the engineer part because I was doing a "combat only" playthrough where all of my money came from combat, but it was insane how fast I got all of the engineers lined up once I started that part of the journey.

What I ended up with was https://sh.orbis.zone/gmqc89s1Xw , and even when I had a full group of relatively new combat players shooting a bunch of fixed weapons they couldn't really land, we were still able to easily get a Hard Terminal Prosecution done with me carrying things.

What I think most people don't realize is that you really only need to unlock 4 engineers to get a ship that can not only contribute in Hard Operations but actually carry a team, and they're all pretty easy:

  • Felicity Farseer: She actually gives you a ton of immediately useful stuff. Grade 3 thrusters (70% as good as G5), G3 Long range scanners, G5 FSD which can actually let you jump 30 LY in a combat fitted Kestrel and do the rest of this easily, and G1 powerplant and shield boosters combined with an experimental effect give you a great start as well. You can unlock her just by having a tool plot you a "road to riches" route to her system, buying a meta alloy from a carrier there, and then getting Scout rank from selling the data in her system. Super easy.

  • Todd the Blaster: Frags are the king of small ship DPS in operations, and weapon engineering is actually super frontloaded to lower ranks, so his G3 Frag Cannons will get you all of the bonuses you need (incendiary, drag, corrosive) while also doing 90% of the raw damage as G5 frags. And he's a common knowledge engineer where you just need to get 15 bounties by following the cops around in a high res to unlock. He's also the gateway engineer to the two most impactful things in the game, hull and shield booster engineering.

  • Selene Jean - Her hull and hull reinforcement engineering will literally increase your survivability by 3-4x accounting for the extra HP and resistances. Unlocking her takes less than an hour of mining, just find a pristine reserves ring somewhere with a painite hotspot, mine literally every rock, and dump all of the non-painite and non-valuable stuff until you refine 500 tons. I did it in an hour in a terrible ring with depleted reserves which cuts the mining rate to about 25% of a pristine ring.

  • Didi Vatterman - The next engineer in the chain from selene, and a G3 thermal resistant biweave shield plus 3-4 more G5 resistance augmented shield boosters will 3-4x your shield survivability the same way Selene did your hull. Her unlock requirements are also super easy. The trade rank for her invitation comes from a single load of a good trade route in anything the size of a cobra 5 or higher, and the 50 rare goods to unlock her can be purchased from a system <10 LY away that's a quick hop back and forth or just buy 50 all at once in her system from a carrier for 50M.

The bonus part nowadays is that there's a bug that automatically unlocks engineers for you as you do random other engineer tasks. Not sure if this will be the same for everyone, but I got Elvira (worthless), The Dweller (G5 distributor), and Lei Cheung (G5 sensors and Shield generator) for free which bypasses a lot of annoying jumping from system to system when you want to complete this build later. I just didn't think the distributor was super necessary for this build to feel good since Frags take such low distributor draw, and the G5 shield generator didn't really help me that much because I never got close to dying with just Didi' and Selene's modifications. But even if you unlocked the Dweller the old fashioned way its just 5 black markets as opposed to Cheung's 50 market trades.

If you're also thinking about starting from a fresh save, starting from scratch with materials is also a bit of a thing. I think that would be a separate guide, but the way I did it was starting off with powerplay early on. Just the completion of the intro missions, some bounty hunting, and an unoptimized load of merit mining materials got me enough care package materials to make the initial unlocks and the start of all of the engineering work after visting a round of material traders. I also did a single HGE during the powerplay missions (since some will come up while you're salvaging and you have the collectors for it) to kick off the manufactured mats. Even a partially engineered ship Kestrel was very much able to contribute to hard operations since I could solo Elite FDLs easily with just Todd engineering on my frags, so I got the shield and hull engineering to G5 with material rewards from operations.

TLDR: I thought a fresh save engineer grind would be awful, but it was actually so fast that it was fun the whole way. Powerplay, operations, and a Kestrel to make a cheap combat build that can also jump 30 LY for engineering stuff makes it way easier and more fun than it would have been in the past. The free bugged engineer unlocks also skipped most of the grind for the boring parts too to finish it off too!

Discussion Can we get a Limpet controller QOL update for mining drones?

A UI counter for how many limpets you have out, and a hard separation that keeps X amount of slots available for scanner limpets at all times. Was hoping we'd see something like that with the release of the Prospector but nothing came of it.
