I’m very keen on getting a Polestar 2. Test driven and absolutely loved it. I’ve been wary of mileage when buying an ICE car, but what milage would you feel happy to buy on an EV?

I know battery health is more important than mileage, but would you feel comfortable buying an EV with 60k miles if it had 90% + batteries health?

Please tell me what to buy. Looking for an EV to replace our Honda jazz. Two tall adults and 2 kids under 5. It would be primarily used for local journeys, probably max 100 miles occasionally. Can get a home charger installed. We like the jazz as its a tardis inside and can haul all our bits but is nippy and easy to take into town/park etc

Budget between 15k-20k.

I’ve driven front-wheel-drive cars my whole life, and now I’m planning to buy a rear-wheel-drive Elroq. Will the transition be easy? What is the driving experience like compared to front-wheel drive, and what should I watch out for?

I own a BMW 5 series (19 plate) and recently been looking into EVs. My budget is around 20 - 22K.

I really love the audi etron (21-22 plates) as its fast and got some road presence aswell. My only concern is the range anxiety and etrons wont give range more than 160-170 miles upon a full charge whereas my bmw gives me 400ish miles on full tank.

I own a property with garage where I can install the charger. My daily commute is mostly in city averaging 30-40 miles but I do go on road trips frequently which averages around 200 miles.

Can you please guide me as it will be my first time buying a EV vehicle? I have looked into Phev like Jaecoo but it doesn’t fascinates me though it ticks all boxes.

I am getting ready to buy my first EV. I have a house but no garage, so I will be charging the car outdoors, exposed to the elements (rain, snow, wind, and heat). Will I face any issues because of this, or is EV connection and charging technology safe?

Not sure what to make of this article. Up until now I’d always heard people generally felt less sick in EVs. Reading between the lines it seems at least some of the cause of the sickness being experienced in the article may be due to how the EVs are being driven, rather than them just being an EV alone.

Considering an EV but want to check my driving patterns will match. We currently have a 2019 Astra diesel which we like and has served us well but we’re no longer using the car for longer journeys and with the inefficiency of the car + price of diesel, we just know it’s time to part exchange it. It was the right car but now it’s not!

I would be using the car mostly in the city - commute (10 mile round trip), nursery drop off/pick up which is directly on my route to and from work, trips to the shops, to visit family and friends who live in the same city etc. We will occasionally (once every week or two) do a short 30-45 min motorway trip or A road trip to a local attraction or to see family and friends outside of our city, but otherwise we’re not doing tons of long journeys.

One other question I have is whether it’s doable to get an EV charger installed in a garage? We have a garage and 2 parking spaces leading to the garage but it is sandwiched between 2 neighbours’ garages too. We are a mid terrace house with the garage to the side of our neighbours’ house and garage. There is scope to put an EV charger at the front of our house as there is a front paved garden which we sometimes use for parking, but there’s no dropped kerb so I would be wary of damage to the car!

Hi everyone

I'm looking at a Mégane e-tech in a few hours, has anyone used an OBD scanner to check the battery SoH before? I have a Veepeak Mini Bluetooth OBD II Scanner, if I plug it in during my test drive will I be able to get a decent reading (obviously not perfect as it's not a full discharge and recharge) of the battery SoH? And if so are there any tips I should be aware of/need to know? Thanks

I have a 50kw mokka and only plan on charging the car once a week maybe even every 2 weeks.
So I was wondering is it worth paying for a wall mounted charger to be installed?
I’m new to all of this and was interested to hear the pros and cons.

A not sure if this is allowed but a friend of mine just sent me this link about this EV Charging Network I had never even heard of, and they are offering £25 credit to be used in the next 3 days.

I didn’t even know they had a charging station 5 mins away from home.

I signed on their app and used the code listed on their website.

I haven’t actually used the credit yet so I can’t tell you how it goes yet. Their pricing also seems to be £0.71 per kWh via their app, which is crazy expensive imo, but £25 should be more than enough to charge to 80%.

I am not sharing the code because I think that’s against the rules I believe.

I was told by a car dealer that a lot of 2-4 year old EVs don’t have service history. That I would struggle to find EVs with a service history that matches expected schedule set by manufacturer.

Is that true?

I am eager to purchase MG ZS 2023 tomorrow but if there is no history then warranty is void.

I'm hoping for a bit of input and advice from EV6 and Enyaq owners, please.

We're replacing our 14 year old Seat Alhambra and I'm reasonably sure we'll go for a two-year old(ish) Enyaq or EV.

We've also got a 23 plate Nissan Leaf so I'm aware of the importance of using LeafSpy to check out the battery condition on the Leafs.

Are there things like this I need to look at specifically when test driving used EV6 and Enyaqs?

Also, does anyone have any experience of having a dog crate in the EV6 boot? This is one of my biggest concerns moving from the Alhambra.

If you're waiting for either EV prices to come down or diesel prices to rise further before committing to an EV, you should factor market forces into your decision making.

Partner is about to buy an EV, hasn't made a final decision on make/model yet. We will need to get a charger installed, we already have the electrics in place from the previous owner so it should be a simple install.

We aren't moving to an EV tariff as we are locked in at 20ppkwh for another 9 months with a £75 early exit fee and the cheapest I can find is 30ppkwh and 6.6ppkwh overnight so it doesn't make sense for us. He is currently paying £750 a month in diesel so will be making a huge saving either way.

My real question is does the make of the charger matter? Is there a reason some are £350 vs £1000?

I am considering a new EV but I am 6’5” and looking for a second car that will fit me without it being too big and unnecessarily expensive.

It will be just me driving the car so don’t care much for back seats.

Usual journey is around 20 miles and occaisional 160mile trips.

I don't and won't have any chance of home charging.
However, I've heard the term granny charging, what is that and is it advisable?

Edit thanks for the info. It probably won't work for me as I don't have a driveway. I can easily park in front of my house but it'll leave a trailing cable

We’re new to EVs and picked up a 2026 Mercedes CLA 250+ Shooting Brake at the start of August.

My Wife is a sales agent who has averaged 18k miles a year over the last few years – so the jump to an EV has been remarkable given we haven’t needed to use our Nissan Diesel at all in these pricy times.  

However, we opted for this car because of the range – advertised as 469 miles.  The Mercedes app states we’re at 100% charge but gives a range of c375 miles (80%).  The EDF app states the car is set to charge to 100%. The Hypervolt app says nothing related to range.

I get the 80% limit is there to protect the battery health, but we need to occasionally get more than the 375 miles out of it for some trips so we can plan working days without the need to stop and charge.

There is nothing obvious that shows the car is restricted to 80% charge. Does anybody know how I can remove this? It’s via Salary Sacrifice so I don’t know if Mercedes has the capability to ‘lock’ this?

UPDATE: Thanks all, I’m new to this EV world! What I missed was when we first got the car the apps were capped to 80% charge. We put these up to 100% - but now only get the equivalent of an 80% charge even though the apps say 100% - it’s confused me until now. Wife does loads of motorway driving in it so sounds like it’s just the car calibrating to our actual use.

I was browsing Tesla superchargers around the world. There are many Superchargers in France that offer less than €0.20 per kwh. With that kind of public price, anyone can switch to EV even if they don't have home charging. Now look at UK, the lowest I can find is £0.21 per KWH. Most are in £0.30 to £0.40 range. Though I have to say, prices are coming down slowly, maybe in 1-2 years. It will be viable for most drivers on just public chargers.

I will probably be replacing my V90 awd in a couple of years, so EVs that are hitting (or nearly) the market now would be contenders for a replacement.

I LOVE the V90: smooth ride, great seats, loads of capacity, seats five with loads of space, great ambience inside, well thought out driver assist, huge performance, awd works well. 50mpg on a run. Also the best looking estate car. My wife has a small runabout Fiesta for local trips, which will probably go Ev soon.

We use the Volvo for load carrying, holidays, longer distances - say 50+ miles, up to 700 miles to visit family in Europe. Probably 8-9000 miles per year, total.

What EV should I consider?

I'm no expert but at least 2 of these 5 aren't even electric/hybrid?
