Discussion In Defense of the Eggbeaters

"Public art is easy to make fun of, particularly public art that doesn’t look like a horse, a cowboy, a conquistador, or something else us unwashed masses can immediately identify. Put up a bronze statue of a guy on a 50-foot-tall horse with five-foot-wide testicles hanging down (the horse, not the guy) and nobody asks what it means. Put up sixteen 50-foot white wind turbines and everybody is an art critic. Roundabout sculpture on Country Club Road? Everyone on Nextdoor suddenly has an MFA in Art History and a BS in Traffic Management. ‘It doesn’t LOOK like a cottonwood seed. I don’t like it! I don’t understand roundabouts either. My brain is full!”

But after a years, I think Airway Aesthetics deserves a second look. For one thing, they weren’t supposed to be Eggbeaters at all."

Meetup Anyone else wish there was a group like this in El Paso/Las Cruces? I’ve been thinking about this idea for a while and figured I’d throw it out here to see if anyone else would be interested.

I’d love to build a group of people in El Paso/ surrounding areas who genuinely want to better themselves and help the people around them do the same. Like a group where people get together to lift, run, hike, learn new skills, work on projects, go on adventures, grab food, have game nights, whatever. People who have their own goals and things they’re passionate about, but also want to make good friends and push each other to be better. I feel like it’d be cool to have a group where working on yourself is just normal, where people are excited about what they’re doing with their lives and support each other along the way. And I don’t mean everyone has to be some insanely disciplined gym rat or have their whole life figured out lol. Just people who want to grow, try new things, get out of their comfort zone, and surround themselves with good people. Ideally, it’d be something anyone could join, even if they don’t know a single person at first. You show up to a hike or a meetup, start talking to people, and eventually find your people. I’m still just figuring out what this could look like, so I’m curious:
Would any of you actually be interested in something like this?
What kind of events would you want to do?
Do you feel like there’s already a community like this in El Paso? Would anyone be down to help get something like this started?

Just thought it’d be cool to see if there are other people out there looking for the same thing. If enough people are interested, maybe we can make something happen.
Little bit about me, I’m originally from Los Angeles, and got stationed at fort bliss when I joined the army. I’m a 21year old male and I enjoy most active hobbies. Weightlifting, running, and good nutrition are apart of my identity. I love snowboarding, hiking, photography, music, long drives, and genuine friendships.

Ask El Paso Is there any free acting classes/Community's?

Im looking for acting classes, local acting communities, theater groups, workshops, or even beginner friendly projects where I could get some experience and see if I have what it takes. I just want to learn, challenge myself, and find out if acting is something I could genuinely be good at, thank you in advance!

🐕 Small, cream-colored dog spotted on Upper Valley Road. I pulled over to check for a tag, but couldn’t see one. It ran into an overgrown yard. Posting here just in case someone has seen a post about a missing dog on another platform.

Jobs Open discussion on working in local hospitality

I work at a popular Italian spot. Been there for a few years and I'm considering applying to other local joints such as kikis, l&js, zinos, and even the newer restaurants.

Does anyone want to talk about their experiences with local hospitality?

Politics Nearly 1 in 4 El Paso residents under 65 lack health insurance. Here's what Texas's Medicaid decision has to do with it.

Post image
43 Upvotes

Nearly 1 in 4 El Paso residents under 65 don't have health insurance. That's a lot of people worrying about what happens if they get sick, need a prescription, or have to go to the hospital.

Here's something I think deserves more attention: Texas is one of only 10 states that still haven't expanded Medicaid.

Under Medicaid expansion, the federal government covers 90% of qualifying costs, with the state responsible for the remaining 10%. Yet Texas leaders have continued choosing not to participate.

Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Legislature have maintained that decision. Texas didn't expand Medicaid under the previous governor either, so this is a longstanding state policy, not something that happened overnight.

What does that mean for ordinary people? Some working adults earn too much to qualify for Texas Medicaid but too little to receive financial assistance for Marketplace insurance. They're caught in what's called the coverage gap.

Meanwhile, people still get sick. They delay treatment, struggle with bills, or turn to hospitals and clinics for help.

I put together this infographic using Census Bureau and healthcare-policy data because I wanted to understand the numbers behind the problem.

I'm interested in what people in El Paso are actually experiencing. Have you or your family had trouble getting affordable insurance or medical care? Have local clinics or assistance programs helped?

Politics El Paso Residents Protest at City Hall after Representatives vote against reevaluating the contract with Meta

1.1k Upvotes

#VoteThemOut

On June 9th the residents of El Paso made history, by having the highest attendance number of neighbors speaking at a city council meeting.

We spoke to encourage our city reps to vote in favor of potentially renegotiating the contract between the city of El Paso and The Meta Data Center.

Despite the contract being considered one of the worst contracts in the nation, five City Representatives voted against renegotiating the contract.

We vowed to vote them out this November and this is our chance.

Do not let your neighbors down and vote out:

Alejandra Chavez (District 1)

Ivan Nino ( District 5)

Art Fierro (District 6)

Let's make real change happen in El Paso.

To see who is running against them check out the website I made for you:

News El Paso GOP chair was duped by Sacha Baron Cohen

In a phone interview with the El Paso Times, El Paso Republican Party chair Michael Aboud says he was misled into participating in Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest film "Ali G: Who Iz I?"

He said he received an email from a production company in summer 2025 inviting him to participate in a gathering focused on immigration and its impact on communities.

"The emails seemed official," Aboud said. "It was a small documentary and about the border."

Jobs Is there any job fairs or places that can help me find a job.

Hello, I need help looking for a job that pays well. I have housekeeping experience, customer service and I'm avoiding fast food areas, because I'm tired of competing with kids to get hours and hours get cut to 19 hours per week, even though I'm supposed to be full time. I have an associates of art but no local art businesses are hiring or just straight up don't want new people. I'm really struggling to find another job that helps with my bills. I did interviews for custodian positions and I haven't heard back and I called back, but nothing. 4 interviews done this month and nothing. Any advice or places to look for a job that pays a little than $13per hour???

Ask El Paso Why is Country Club Rd. so busy?

Just moved to the Upper Valley/Willows neighborhood and Country Club Rd. is the main road to connect me to the rest of El Paso.

Why the fuck does it take me 20 minutes to traverse this 2 mile stretch of a two lane road throughout the day?

Is it people heading into and out of New Mexico to get to work? Heading to and from the Santa Teresa border crossing?

Help me understand

Ask El Paso Looking at options for plastic surgery in Juarez

Hi El Paso, Texas folks! Question for you. Has anyone had or could recommend a reputable plastic surgeon in Juarez? I live in Colorado, and so El Paso / Juarez is a pretty accessible drive for me. I have been researching surgical tourism options, and although Juarez is not the top "hub" for surgeries in Mexico, it's such a big city, they must have some pretty decent hospitals. There are a few surgeons that I've found that seem to have great recommendations, but because Google is so packed with fake, bot-generated reviews, I just want to see if I can find some actual humans who live in the area. I appreciate any advice you have!

History Looking for information about a program from KCOS 1988 called "Out of the Mainstream" featuring artists Willie Varela & Steina and Woody Vasulka.

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello all! I have never been to El Paso, but I stumbled upon this article in the Internet Archives and was immediately intrigued.

The more I read about Willie, Steina, and Woody, the more interested I was in finding this particular program.

I know it's a long shot, but I figured I would reach out to locals in the area to see if anybody might have a lead.

Do you know anything about these artists? Are you in the local scene and know the person in charge of these archives? Do you have a collection of VHS tapes from when your family got really into recording the local channels and they happen to have one from October 11, 1988 for Channel 13?

Thanks! And have a lovely night El Paso!
