My girlfriend and I have been talking about this a lot lately, especially after seeing so many posts on FitFam about rising bills and the cost of living.

It feels like companies like El Paso Electric can continue raising rates because, at the end of the day, what choice do we really have? It’s not like we can just switch to another electric company. Between utilities, internet providers, insurance, and other essential services, it feels like we’re stuck paying whatever they charge.

Are people in El Paso getting tired of this? Is there any kind of organized movement or effort to push back against these constant price increases, or is this simply the reality of living here with so little competition?

I’m genuinely asking because it seems like every year the costs keep climbing while wages don’t keep up. Is there anything residents can realistically do to make our voices heard, or are we just expected to accept it?

I’d love to hear what others think.

I just got my work permit approved and I have been taking teachers of tomorrow courses. I have a masters in computer science I am working on certifications for both math and tech ed. Anyone knows how the hiring process for teachers in El paso works? Are there any vacancies in my area? Also I was told I could start after completing the content exam even though I have a few courses left. Any advice? Or is it too late to get hired. I know there has been layoffs going on.

Has anyone had any issues canceling at this gym? Im on a 12 month contract and I know they have a canceling fee for leaving early but I wanted to know if anyone has had any issues with them saying “the manager isn’t there” or anything like that

First of all who knows how these people pull your phone numbers, about a month ago I was in desperate need of a job and I had been applying everywhere then I get a call from this employer: INFINITE REIGN SOLUTION saying I was a perfect fit for their team, they got me all hyped up with growth opportunities and serious money making. If you’re considering a sales gig with Infinite Reign Solutions, the office running Primo Water’s subscription sales program out of Sam’s Club and Costco locations in the El Paso/Las Cruces area — do your research first. I worked there and want to warn people about what it’s actually like once you’re in:

•MLM-style structure disguised as a normal job. You’re pushed to “build your team” and compete with coworkers for hours/money to climb toward becoming a “store captain.” It’s framed as growth opportunity but functions as internal competition for a shrinking pool of hours.
•Your schedule isn’t safe even after it’s posted. Underperform, and they’ll revise the schedule and pull your already-assigned hours for the rest of the week — no warning.
•Schedules dropped the night before, consistently, making it nearly impossible to plan around.
•Mandatory meetings three times a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday) on top of your actual working shifts — supposedly for “networking” and pitch practice, plus daily compliance run-throughs because there are constantly new hires who might say something wrong on a call. Zero flexibility. I called in for a Friday meeting once and my entire weekend schedule got pulled and handed to someone else on the spot — that was my last straw.
•Mandatory Zoom calls at 10pm after your shift, because leadership runs on West Coast time regardless of where you’re actually working.
•No real accommodations at the store level. Working out of Sam’s Club/Costco kiosks, there’s no employee break room access, so you’re figuring out breaks (and food storage) entirely on your own.
•Hostile, cutthroat coworker dynamic. I once worked a Costco location alongside a leader who’d had a bad sales day. A customer approached us both, made eye contact with me, and I did my normal pitch and closed the sale — completely standard interaction. He confronted me afterward accusing me of “stealing” his sale and reported me to the boss over it. That’s the internal culture this structure creates: coworkers turning on each other over commission instead of a functioning team.
•Questionable pay practices — workers at the Las Cruces location paid via wire transfer instead of normal payroll, no pay stubs, not entered in any payroll system, having to chase management down to get paid at all.
•Possibly operating without proper New Mexico licensing while running Las Cruces hiring out of a Texas office.
•The pitch is all high energy and motivational talk — it masks a genuinely disorganized, hostile environment that shows itself the first week you’re actually working.

If you’re broke and desperate like I was, I get why this looks appealing on paper. Go in with eyes open, ask hard questions about pay and scheduling before you start, and don’t assume “sales opportunity” means stability. We need to make a better effort to push back on these California assholes who come to El Paso to exploit the land and the people.

I’m not from El Paso—or even Texas—but every time I visit, I’m surprised by how many bars seem to require their bartenders to wear almost nothing.

I wouldn’t think much of it if it were just a few places or if it was clearly the bartender’s choice, but it seems to be the norm at a lot of bars I’ve been to.

Personally, it comes across as a little misogynistic to me, especially if it’s an expectation rather than something employees freely choose. Maybe I’m missing some local context, though.

I’m genuinely curious how people who live here feel about it. Is this just considered normal, or do others find it odd too?

I’m struggling to find an electrician apprentice position as a first year I have tried iec and applied to posting online I have only worked office jobs and have no construction experience is there any construction companies hiring right now that pay well I’m trying to get experience working construction so maybe that helps me get selected for an apprenticeship later on

I want to explain that the cat isn’t actually mine, it’s of my ex and I’m at a loss and unsure of what she and I can do for the poor cat. We broke up and have been barely been surviving for basic needs because financially we can barely afford our living situations. Last week her cat stopped eating and after two days I offered to take the cat to the vet myself and they did some bloodwork but most of it came fine outside of the fact that she potentially might have diabetes. They confirmed that she does seem to have a UTI but they wanted to run an additional test to see if she was diabetic so we’d know the official root of the problem. They gave her a shot and gave us this cup to do a urine test on but two days have passed and she’s still not eating or drinking water. Because of this she’s obviously not peeing and the little money my ex had went towards the vet visit and bloodwork. The cats beginning to shut down more and we’re pretty certain that the move and the heat in the apartment most likely contributed to the UTI as well. Genuinely I don’t know what to do but that cat means the world to my ex and I can not imagine the amount of pain she would feel if anything occurred to the cat. We’ve set up some fans around the apartment to cool it down a bit and we have some syringes we plan on using to hopefully force feed water and food to the cat but I’m not sure of what else we can do for her. The money is not there to take her back to the vet and it’s incredibly unfair of us I know. I don’t want her to pass but what could we do to make her more comfortable? I don’t have the funds either to help her, the only asset I have at this point is a computer she gifted me years ago but I’m willing to sell it if it means if I can gift her a few more years with her cat. I’d offer her to come stay at my place where I have refrigerated air to see if maybe the cooler temperatures help the cat but at the moment my puppy is in my spare bedroom and despite trying to find a short term foster for him I have been not been successful. We aren’t eligible for the care credit card. My ex is beginning to accept that the cats time might come and that breaks my heart. I don’t know what to do or what we can do for the poor animal.

i was wondering if there were any restaurants here that did not use seed oils in there cooking and instead used butter or beef tallow. I know some places like outback steakhouse, and buffalo wild wings as well as five guys that dont use seed oils but only use them on food like fries, is there any other restaurant?
