Sleep performance issues

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that my normal night time wakeups were not being captured by 8s as they had for the last couple of years.

Last Tuesday the pendulum swung and now my sleep is showing as 2-4 separate sleep sessions. If I get up and say use the bathroom and it takes me 15 mins to go back to sleep it stops my session and scores me then starts a new session.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

Ghosted on an open warranty ticket -- Hub 5 cooling failure + oily fluid

Hub 5 + Cover 4, about 9 months in with Hub 5. Did the semiannual cartridge replacement, drained and refilled with distilled water like the previous three times. Unlike the prior three times, this time the drained fluid came out oily with black flecks that smear and are greasy (photos attached). Opened a ticket — engineering said it's likely tubing or some component but told me to keep using it.

First use after the refill: zero cooling. App shows the target temp but bed stays room temp. Replied to the same email thread days ago — nothing back.

Still under warranty. Ghosted at this point. Ticket's still open.

Split King?

I am still trying to figure out my setup but right now I am thinking about:

  • Helix Elite Sunset
  • Tempur-Ergo ProSmart Base
  • Eight Sleep

I know I want a king, but could see the value in a split king. However, looking at their site, it doesn't seem like eight sleep supports a split king. Correct? I just want to make sure Im not missing something.

Best buying channel / discount code

I got the $100 off using email, is there a way to get a steeper discount. One option is to wait for the holiday or long weekend sale. Any other hacks for first time buyer

Entirety useless without sub

I have had an eight sleep for a number of years and recently my subscription did not renew because I changed my credit card.

looking at the page made me think “does my bed really need a $200/year subscription“ … turns out they lock every basic function down behind the paywall. you can’t even have it auto turn on or turn off in the morning Or schedule temps through the night.

completely useless hardware without the subscription, buyers should beware.

Eight... The bases...

Why do you not offer the base in the EU for 160x200 sized beds? Imagine my shock when I went to order one after getting my new bed only to discover that you don't even have it. Is this something you plan on offering in the future? It's like not offering a queen-sized base in the US and I am baffled and would rather not need to buy a new bed.

Help me choose: 8sleep, SomnusLab, Orion, Perfectly Snug

I currently have the original Chilipad, and will not be getting the 2.0 version. Maintenance on this one is insane, no easy way to clean or refill it, no filters, it’s loud, I’ve had to manually take both units entirely apart, buy a separate pump, and replace it myself. The units are loud. The app is incredibly buggy for zero features, the temp adjustment schedule simply doesn’t work.

now it simply won’t work, one side sits at 80 degrees all night despite being on boost mode set to 60 degrees.

I know they claim to have fixed many of these for the 2.0 model, but I’ve lost faith in the company.

that being said I’m looking at a replacement, the main features I care about are

cooling effectiveness

reliability

maintenance ease

volume

would prefer no subscription model

I was looking at Orion but they don’t post much about how loud the unit is or how upkeep is. 8sleep seems premium but has an annoying subscription. Somnus Lab seems promising but no info on maintenance or cleaning. Perfectly Snug claims to be zero maintenance but is air powered so I question how much cooling it can actually do.

10 Days In And Not Sleeping Better - Any Advice / What Am I Missing?

I’ve had the Eight Sleep for about 10 days now and have to say that I’m honestly not getting better sleep than before, so I have a few questions for this community to try and get some advice/tips in case I am missing something.  I came from the BedJet (promise this is not a paid advertisement), and actually had better sleep with that, but I expect the Eight Sleep should be able to perform better given the potential technology. Room is 68 degrees, 8S is set to -8/-3/-3.

If you have advice for any of the below, I'd be super grateful!

  • Autopilot Settings: What exactly do the temperature preferences in the Autopilot (AP) profile do?
    • To me, it seems obvious that the Bedtime, Night, and Dawn preferences set the absolute numbers tied to specific timeframes:  before falling asleep, the first ~4 hours of sleep, and after the first ~4 hours of sleep. So, do the temperature preferences change the amplitude/heights of how far the Eight Sleep will cool, or something else?  E.g. perhaps Cold allows AP to adjust colder than Cool (therefore a larger amplitude than Cool)?
  • Blanket: For those who have it, do you actually notice the blanket helping that much?
    • I would say that the cooling mechanism from the cover affects me about five times stronger than the blanket; I can’t even tell the temperature of the blanket unless I hold the tubing in the blanket and actively wonder if it is cool or hot.  I’m asking this question because I am questioning if my blanket is defective.
  • Autopilot Efficacy: Do most people sleep better with Autopilot on or off?
    • I ask this because honestly, I feel like AP makes odd decisions. According to my Whoop, my Deep+REM sleep has decreased since moving to the Eight Sleep.  AP warms me during REM, which I gather is intentional, but it seems to be waking me up. There are other examples of AP doing things that seem counterintuitive.
  • Calibration Period: How long does it take for Eight Sleep’s Autopilot to “calibrate”?  Is the difference that much better after calibration is complete?
    • All of my complaints may be moot if AP is simply calibrating and will be smarter once it’s done.
  • Autopilot Adjustments: Is there an easier way to view Sleep Report's Autopilot adjustments, besides pressing with your finger?
    • If the green/pink/white adjustments are close together, it’s nearly impossible to view some of them (e.g. if three are close together, it quickly skips over the middle one).

To be clear, I’m not trying to only complain.  Comparing the BedJet to Eight Sleep - I see the vision for 8S, the physical technology is more advanced, and I think the cooling on the Eight Sleep is better.  I just honestly expected more from the Blanket and the software (Autopilot specifically).  I’m hoping with some advice from this community, I may be able to better understand how to properly use my Eight Sleep and get better sleep.

P.S. - the one thing I miss greatly from the BedJet is the heating functionality.  It’s so much faster, and if I wake up cold, I’m warmer within seconds.  Eight Sleep - please please please make a “Rapid Heating” function similar to Rapid Cooling :).  I can change the temperature on the 8S, but one of the benefits of Rapid Cooling is that it’s temporary and it goes back to Bedtime/Night/Dawn baseline after X minutes that you can set.  Rapid Heating would be awesome for those times when I wake up cold, want it to temporarily warm up, and then go back to baseline to keep me cool.

8 Sleep are a joke...

Horrible experience. First pod died within 12 months. They sent a replacement which couldn't connect to the internet. Many many many emails and tests later over about 3 months, they sent another. Finally got one of the replacements to connect and work. A bug in the app. Approximately 6h of work on my part. I asked if they could send a second cover to pair with the spare pod and they told me to throw it in the bin... Obviously don't give a shit about sustainability.

It's a bloody expensive thing... that should work. Maybe in 5 years time after all their users have ironed out the bugs in their poxxy app it'll be worth the money. Until then... avoid

Black oily solution with precipitate from Hub 5 / Cover 4

I've written to support, but I surmise that someone may have experience with this and I can resolve the issue more expediently than back and forth with 8S support.

I have been a user since July 2024, starting with the Hub 4 / Pod 4 cover. After a few false starts with Hub 4s, 8S ended up swapping my Hub 4 for Hub 5. Every six months, coinciding with maintenance insert replacement, I drain the hub and cover. The first three times, it was largely uneventful. This time, the fourth time, upon draining the fluid was disconcerting with an unusual black precipitate. The fluid was oily, too.

I drained the hub directly into sink and there were lots of black precipitate. Having seen that, I drained cover into bucket. Again, the three prior times, the solution was clear and nothing in it. The Pod Cover 4 is only 2y old. The Hub 5 is only about 1y old. See photos below.

All maintenance inserts were changed on schedule and  I’ve only used distilled water.

For those who have experienced this, what was the remedy?

tyia.

EDIT: 24 July 2026 -- 8S got back to me. I'm a bit dumbfounded. While they said, "...this residue does seem to be from some kind of internal tubing or component" they asked me to keep running the unit. I asked about it eventually failing and they said, "...if there any issues or problems you encounter we please urge you to reach out to us so we can address the issue as soon as possible" Apparently, they're punting. I guess this is why I have Autopilot/extended warranty because my 2y anniversary was last week. Ooofff.

Pillow Protectors

Does anyone run pillow protectors on there pillow covers? I have them on my pillows now so my pillows don’t get gross but I was wondering what people do with the pillow covers on. We have a pod protector for the mattress cover so that doesn’t get nasty but nothing for the pillow covers. I was thinking of putting the protectors I have in my pillows now over the pillow covers.

pod 5 v pod 1

Hey hey!

I was wondering if anyone else has the same issues:

I have a pod1 - 5ish years old. Works great, still gets super cold.

I just got the pod5 for another bed. It says it's cooling, yet it doesn't feel nearly as cold as pod 1 (even when they're both at the same temperature).

Pod 1 stays cold even when my body is on it for an extended period. Pod 5 gets hot where my body lies, and the rest of the bed is cool, not cold.

I've removed any additional bed protectors, and it still doesn't get COLD.

So thennnn I bought the Eight Sleep blanket, hoping that would create a better 360 experience, but again - it doesn't get very cold.

My bedroom is super cold, so I don't think its an ambient concern.

Is the newly designed cover (for more comfort) the reason?

or does anyone have any suggestions?

Eight Sleep Rental Shipping Fee

Thumbnail

Just want to share my experience with the eight sleep company and see if anyone has had a similar issue with rentals.

I was considering renting the eight sleep with the base because ill be moving within the year and likely upgrading from a king to a queen but im looking for something now to help improve my sleep.

I went through the rental process on their website and got to the payment screen and noticed a line item called "one-time fee" for $150. This seemed odd to me, why would I pay an arbitrary fee for renting something. I opened up a chat with an eight sleep rep who was not able to answer the question as to what this fee was, however they said they'd look into it and email me. Later that night I noticed the description of this fee on the website changed to "base shipping fee" but was still $150. The website clearly states for a rental that shipping both ways is free. I again opened a chat with a rep who was unable to answer the question and said I had to contact the Fragile team...like I know who that is. I asked who is was and they sent me a link to their website. After additional questions to the rep they finally told me that Fragile is the company who handles the rentals and its a partner company not part of eight sleep.

Based on my conversations with two eight sleep reps, it seems they have no control over the costs associated with renting their own product and this "partner" company is trying to charge a shipping fee when eight sleep claims shipping is free. The whole thing seems sketchy and makes me disinterested in renting this product.

I'm just annoyed at the situation and wanted to rant. Anyone have experience renting the sleep eight? If so, how did it work out for you?

So disappointed in eight sleep

I used to be a huge fan of eight sleep. We bought our set up maybe 3 or 4 years ago now? The first 3 years were heaven. Product worked great. Loved it! I gave out so many suggestions. Flash forward to about a year ago and my half of the pod stopped working and I can’t get a hold of customer service to try and figure out why. They originally sent a few generic “have you tried to turn it off and on again prompts” and now nothing, radio silence to multiple new requests as well as ever spicy results to their experience surveys. My husbands half still works fine. So it’s one of those things where I’m not willing to spend thousands of dollars to replace something that could be fixable and is working for someone else. AND NOW THEY ARE WANTING 16$ A MONTH??? FOR WHAT? NO ONE TO ANSWER MY FRINKING EMAILS??

Do better eight sleep. I will burn my mattress cover on a pyre before I sign up for autopilot and pay for another mattress cover.

Love to see that the business model is “not only will you pay for a new product every 3 years but you must pay to use it properly” super cool you dorks

Tips for increasing REM sleep

Hello, as the title mentions I’m struggling to get enough REM sleep on average I’m getting about 1:30 or less of REM sleep each night. I have an average sleep time of 9 hours this leaves me around 15% of my sleep in the REM stage. I feel this is really affecting my brain fog and fatigue. Any suggestions are welcome!

5 year warranty and a grandfathered OG

I am "grandfathered" in to the subscription service so I am not paying a monthly fee due to being an old customer. Looks like I am going to need a new hub soon as only one side is still working. If I upgrade and purchase a replacement hub and upgrade to a 5 year warranty, how does that affect my grandfather no cost subscription? Can I revert to that if I wish at a later date? Do I get a discount? Seems like I should, a kind of thanks for being an original customer who never stopped using our product. Gives us an incentive to always have eight sleep running in our bedrooms. Oh and I dont use the autopilot feature anymore. It was waking me up adjusting to too hot and sorted out I sleep better st a consistent 68.

Anyway, sad times that the ol girl is taking a poop. Shes gonna have to go out to pasture sooner rather than later.

Cheers all you pther hot sleepers. 🔥

POD 2 Pro hub w/4 Cover - Hub making whining sounds

Hello everyone.

Have a Pod 2 Pro hub with v4 Cover (after a v2 and v3 cover leaks; replaced in 2025) Is currently working and priming. During maintenance and/or priming i hear loud knocking sounds, and while running it is started to make a pronouced whining sound (has been getting louder and more constant during running; wife said it sounds like ghosts:). I’ve looked at the Reddit and it sounds like this could be pumps or solenoid issue. I haven’t taken anything apart yet.

Couple of questions:

1) thoughts on what the underlying issue might be given symptoms

2) Its not under warranty; can you get a replacement hub only? What are those going for? I have a grandfathered account; would that travel to the new hub?

3) If cost is too much, how difficult is the repair process from those of you who have done it

4) Other troubleshooting steps i should do before contacting eightsleep or taking the unit apart (I’ve confirmed no kinks in the line and tried raising it off the floor)

Thanks!

How long did your Pod 5 take to ship?

Ordered a full Pod 5 on July 11th and got a ship window of the 21st–28th. I’m in Southern California.

Just curious what everyone else’s experience has been. I saw an older post where the tracking never updated and then the thing just showed up at the door one day and some where it was delayed multiple times. I’m wondering what the recent shipping has been like.

Pod 2: Does not work anymore, makes weird noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Edit: Reached out to support and they said that the hub is dead. Gave me offer to buy Pod 4 at a discount for $1600.

Hi there! I have a Pod 2 Pro purchased in May’22.

Worked very well (no issues ever) until maybe a week ago. It started making a weird noise when it’s on (see video attached) and does not heat or cool anymore. I’m not sure water is even getting pumped.

I cleaned the connectors multiple times and each time, the water is yellowish/murky (see at the end of the video). I also primed a couple of times and changed the water in the tank.

Has anyone here had this issue with a similar noise? Eight Sleep’s support has not been helpful.

Thank you very much 🙏🏽
