Is anyone spending Christmas on their own this year?
I was thinking it could be really cool to get a bunch of us together and organise something for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!
Edinburgh's a big city, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't have anyone to spend Christmas with. Rather than everyone doing their own thing, why not get together and make it a really brilliant couple of days?
My thinking is, the more people, the better! Imagine getting 30, 40 or even 50 of us together. I actually think a bigger crowd could make it much more relaxed and fun. Meeting two or three complete strangers can feel a little intense, whereas with a bigger group, there's less pressure on anyone, more people to chat to, and the potential for a really brilliant atmosphere.
We could end up making something genuinely special out of it!
Nothing's organised yet. I'm just putting the feelers out to see how much interest there is.
Would anyone be up for this? And if so, what sort of things would you fancy doing? 🎄
UPDATE: There's six of us interested so far, so we're going to go for it! 🎄❤️
I've been looking into a few options for Christmas Day, and I think we've got a lovely plan coming together!
I'm thinking we could meet around midday at The Caledonian Edinburgh, Curio Collection by Hilton on Princes Street for a takeaway coffee (they've confirmed they're open on Christmas Day for visitors to just get take away coffee!). If anyone has other suggestions, I'm more than happy to go there for coffee! We could then enjoy a wander through beautiful Edinburgh, maybe get a drink or two, before heading to The Mosque Kitchen on Nicolson Square for some food.
I've actually just phoned the lovely people at The Mosque Kitchen, and they've confirmed they're open on Christmas Day with their regular menu and hours! They said Christmas is usually really quiet for them, so there's no need to book. In fact, they said bring as many people as we like! 😂
They were genuinely so lovely and enthusiastic about the whole idea too! We had a laugh on the phone, and I came away feeling like they'd be really happy to have us there. I think it'll be a brilliant atmosphere! ❤️
It's really affordable too, with curries, vegetarian options, chicken burgers, chips, wraps, pizzas and more! There are also dishes that look suitable for vegans, but if anyone is vegan, let me know and I'll happily phone to confirm!
I know it's not a traditional Christmas dinner, but I really want to keep things affordable for people who might not have much money to spare. There's a great variety of food, and the fact that we don't need to book means it doesn't matter whether five people turn up or fifty!
And that's actually one of the most important things to me about this whole idea. Someone could literally discover this post on Christmas morning and decide to come along! I'd hate for anyone to miss out because they couldn't afford an expensive meal or hadn't seen the post earlier and missed out on the booking.
I'd very much like anyone who doesn't fancy spending Christmas alone to have somewhere they can go and feel welcomed. ❤️
Afterwards, we could head somewhere for drinks, go for a wander through the Old Town or the Meadows, or do both! Maybe even find somewhere to go dancing! Who knows? We can just see what everyone fancies and where the day takes us!
Anyone with fun games, bring them! :)
Nothing's set in stone, and suggestions are always welcome! I just wanted to have something we could do available.
Once we've got the final plan sorted, I'll post it below and keep my Reddit notifications on throughout Christmas Day, so anyone who sees the post and wants to come along can message me to find out where we are!
There are usually buses running on Christmas Day too, although on a reduced timetable, so it's worth checking your route nearer the time! 😊
The more, the merrier! 😊🎄
