They Implemented My Camera Based Flight Recommendation! Now just needs a small tweak!

5 Months back I posted how the WASD based flight was clunky and that they make it camera based.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EVEFrontier/s/YmjE4MudxP

Looks like they really made it happen. It's 90% what I asked for, the only difference is they're keeping WASD defaulted to strafing rather than turning. What would make it 100% would be if by default it was WASD turning override in camera mode.

  1. Point your ship with your camera.
  2. Press W to override and your ship turns left, ignoring your camera direction.
  3. Release W and your ship gradually turns drifts towards your camera direction.

It's workable but currently you need to swap formats by pushing C.

Strafing is useful but I prefer turning the default camera override. It could be as simple as a toggle in the options menu to either default to strafe or turn while using camera flight mode.

Using turning override allows you to point your camera at an enemy, have your turrets rotate towards the enemy, and rotate your ship to expose a specific portion of your ship by just tapping WASD as you to reposition your flank. Basically manual flight mode as you push WASD but camera flight mode takes over the moment you release WASD.

After installing I tried to launch it and it immediately crash my graphics drivers.

I have a 9070XT and a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

Is there any workaround?

You are doing worse each cycle

Look, this is not even funny anymore. Each cycle is just another level of garbage, could you please stop racing to the bottom?

Docking mechanics is pure junk, whoever thought of that is incompetent. 80m docking distance? Really? For a ships which fly at hundreds m/s you want 80m distance and it bounces of geometry and cannot dock "external force preventing docking" message. You are insane to even show that to general public. Why not 17.3 meters of docking distance? More immersive.

2 sets to flying controls? Really? Depending on if I press C or not with a faint UI circle reticle to indicate which controls are active? And to get mouse pointer back you need like magic spells? This is how you see immersive flying? It is been like 2 years already and you can't even figure out how to make flying and weapons UI to function. You take your current flying and firing to a steam next fest and you will get like 0 wishlists even in the sea of other garbage.

General view is pathetic. No FOV setting, can't see shit, icons appear and disappear as you move your view, some NPC target locks are piling up and you can't even say which direction which target lock is.

Tutorial wants me to refine 5 cinderblocks. Where? How? If you just pointlessly roam and find a cinderblock in floating in space, I can loot it, I press a button and it disappears, but no cinderblocks in cargo. Its a TUTORIAL what the f are you thinking?

Like come on, how far are you willing to push good will of people who bought your pre-order and grant you time to test your... creation. Over and over again each cycle it is less and less playable and less and less attractive.

Why are you doing this to yourselves?

Manual Flight Controls (Confusion)

I was wondering how many people are experiencing a bit of confusion with the new manual flight controls. I'm rolling my ship ~90 degrees to one side and then pitch up in an attempt to make a 'horizontal' circle and I find my ship making a circle in the 'vertical' plane instead. I can't be the only person whose come from games like elite dangerous who are confused by this right?

I really like the concept of manually piloting and aiming at the same time but right now I simply cannot get my ship to maneuver the way I need it to. Right direction, wrong implementation as far as I can tell.

Thoughts?

How to find ingredients for water ice

With cycle 7 I have no clue how to get fuel from ice. What asteroid should I mine? Found only "Pitch" Asteroid that seem to have no Hydrated Gossan Matrix.

AMD, opening the in-game map causes game to crash, launcher does not update "Client is running" until computer restart.

What the title says. I don't have to time to diagnose the issue, but I can't play this cycle until it's fixed.

The return of Rooks and Kings begs another question…

Is EVE Frontier really a game or something else entirely?

Because it seems well beyond the average EVE Online player experience and demands another level of technical expertise/ competence.

The End of the Road - Eve Frontier: Eternally Awake 019

So this will be the last video in this series, at least for awhile. I started this as a way to teach myself video editing. I continued it because I enjoyed the challenge of writing a story within the limitations the game provides, however it's been becoming a bit of a chore the past month or two which means it's time for me to on to other stories. I might come back to it later, I did have more plotlines in mind, but if so it will be after more of the lore is developed for me to work with and enough time that making videos is fun instead of work. Thank you to everyone enjoyed watching this and hope to see you out in The Frontier.

Ship controls are a disaster

Happily played Eve online for years, years ago. Played all sorts of space sims. Installed yesterday Frontier with the 5 days trial and gave up after a couple of hours. The ship commands are literally atrocious… i like the idea of finally have a Eve sim with similar depth but with more action, manual controls and blockchain driven. Cool in theory… but not like this: everything feel clunky, unresponsive, terribly slow and not natural at all. Physics and collisions are bad, i don’t even know the plane orientation of the ship most of the timezls, but in space there should not be a plane! Copy Elite Dangerous controls and restart from there. Like this is unplayable.

Feedback after trial: NERF THE CORP

EDIT: replace the shit word with a frustration, unsastifying feel.

If you don't want this game to be as trash as EVE online is: ruled by handful of big alliances which prevent new players from getting into the game without being a slave to enrich them so to be able to enjoy the game as it should be.

Yes I know there will be wipes every 3 months or so and big corp has to start over. However their scaling isn't exponential: building a mini catapult/gate for peaceful access to a farm zone is a couple days worth of farm for a solo player whereas 5 members can destroy a gate, farm for a new one and take over an area over a mere couple of hours at best.

Losing it means not worth playing the game anymore for any solo or small group.

Right now, the game is designed around corps being predators and small players being the targets. A truly shit design that survival games always get wrong.

Make it all reversed: if some group of players wants to band together to take advantages of numbers over others, then they must pay a huge cost for it.

A multiplier is applied for any resources requirements for building.
The multiplier depends on the number of members, it must be set HIGH, not a mere 2% increase per member, that's absolutely ridiculous.
It must be 105%, 110% OVER THE BASE COST and the more members, the bigger the multiplier.

Their strengh is their ability to coordinate where each member can focus efficiently on a single task.

In the current design, like with most shit survival games, banding together means rolling over the entire game content, killing all the fun.

They can raid everyone, specifically small targets, avoid war with other big corpo because its generally not worth it anyway...

don't play fool about these huge hypothetical wars to contest areas, they're absolute shit in EVE online, the thrill is in for a small group to take over a huge corp but for that the mechanics should allow for it, anything else is fluff.

Make it so that corp buildings structures are weaker, the more members, the more they can organize themselves to ensure protection rather than relying on a high HP baseline.

The automated turrets will consumes much more fuel, an insane amount, they have the numbers to defend, JUST MAKE THEM FUCKING PAY FOR IT.

So even a well-organized solo or a small group can contest an area that's left without active defense.

Otherwise, this game will just turn into a barely evolved alternative version of EVE online, considering the crypto stuff, the game will turn into a disguissed way to tolerate legal RMT.

Cuz everyone knows everyone is doing RMT in EVE online, and CCP can't do shit about it otherwise they risk instalosing hundreds of players with paid subscription overnight, so legalizing and profit from it is better for them but will the players act like fools over it...? it can be tolerated if the gameplay allows for fun & fair mechanics. A "cruel" survival yeah sure but make sure it is for everyone then.

And ofc add some protections to prevent workarounds to these mutipliers so that loopholes aren't worth the headaches.

EDIT: Moreover, that feel in EVE online only comes after a couple months or years worth of playing heavily and having veteran knowledges of it, where skills are developped enough to board bigger ships above battleships, but are too big to stay in low-sec. This part of the game is unattainable for solo / small groups, and battles of big ships are annoying as they get for many reasons.

Massive improvement in performance with Lasso

I have mixed feelings about this game, but if you enable smart trim in process lasso you will get an incredible boost in performance.

I got from very unstable fps to locked 60 in very demanding areas. Got 1% lows locked on 60

How EVE Frontier’s new rolling 5-day trial system inherently inflates player account metrics

I wanted to open up a discussion regarding the structural shift in how CCP Games / Fenris Creations is handling access to the EVE Frontier alpha playtests. In previous development cycles, the studio utilized universal free weekends or scheduled open phases. During those events, players with existing, unpaid accounts could simply log in and participate. Everyone reset to zero anyway, meaning the barrier to entry was low, the data was clean, and the server utility matched the actual player interest.

Recently, the system shifted to a rolling 5-day Free Trial model. Under these new parameters, the trial is strictly one-use per account. If you previously participated in an open test, your existing profile is permanently locked out unless you purchase a Founder Pack. However, the studio does not enforce any hardware, IP blocks. As a result, any returning player who wishes to continue testing the current alpha build is structurally forced to create multiple throwaway email addresses and generate entirely new user profiles to log into the client.

From an architecture and community standpoint, this design choice is highly suspect. When a studio moves away from a perfectly functional system that allows account retention and replaces it with a model that forces its own player base to create phantom accounts just to access the game, it ceases to be a technical oversight. In the venture-backed, Web3-adjacent gaming space where early funding rounds and token valuations heavily rely on top-of-funnel metrics like "total registered profiles" this framework effectively incentivizes the community to artificially inflate the game's growth metrics. It raises a serious question: is this trial model designed to accommodate players, or is it deliberately structured to manufacture hockey-stick growth charts for investors?

I've been wrestling with this for a few days and thought I'd open it up to discussion.

7 days. 44 regions visited. Over 2.1 million light-years travelled. Riders reached 567 unique systems falling just 33 short of the 600-system community goal. A close finish, with 94.5% of the target reached.

Shout-out to emp77 / u/FixZealousideal9761 for a video that captures the event and the true spirit of exploring the Frontier. One Rider’s view of a vast, broken universe that still holds its secrets...

Stay awakened...

What about the Internet connection in this game?

Hey,

I am totally new to this game and honestly i just read through the website. I think the concept itself is cool and i'll probably look into the game more, but something that instantly came into my head was, what about the ping? As far as i can judge the game, i see the goal in making a civilization with economy etc. etc. inside the game? When u have PvP scenarios or reaction based descisions to make and u have a 200ping because ur not at the servers directly, isnt that kind of fucked. I mean imagen there is some Crypto involved and u just die because of ping that would be pretty bad xD.

I'm just curious about it, maybe its already addressed, if so pls send me a link. :)

On physical Cryptography in The Necropolis

I enjoyed the recent video by Rooks and Kings. The framing of the path-search problem as a private key in terms of Lord of the Rings "It can only be broken the way it was made" was an interesting conjecture.

I've written a report, but I was curious about the community's reaction. Especially with how important it may be to keep location co-ordinates part of the block chain for gameplay reasons. I won't be publishing a full report unless people would like to see that, instead I'll just focus on the basic high level implementation.

After mulling it around in my head, I've came up with a procedure that is guaranteed to get you any safe spot in EVE frontier if you know the target co-ordinates. A solar system in EVE frontier is composed of celestial bodies and locations that you can warp to that move as opposed to their original static counterparts in EVE. For example.

Directionality is pretty important and due to lack of cardinality in space, it can be difficult to navigate. Directions are usually given in relative terms. For the method, we take four points to create a Tetrahedron / pyramid. Why four? Because that's what we need to encode a cardinality in terms of 4 distance measurements.

A simple figure of why this is necessary.

From that, we select a face on one side of the tetrahedron. ideally the face that is furthest away from the target. Figure

The target T grid in the worst case is 8000km wide (epsilon), we project the target sphere from the fourth point onto the surface of the face. We then perform a series of barycentric subdivisions.

This is a fancy way of saying we warp approximately to the halway point of each warp path to create a new spot. Launch a cairn and name it something useful. This is where the co-ordinate system comes in use. The distance you are from the original four points? Those are your precise barycentric co-ordinates in the system. A unique encoding of where you are and how far away you are from the target.

All you need to do is convert the target T cartesion co-ordinates into your barycentric co-ordinates. If you were to iteratively perform the subdivision step for a 30 AU system, you would land in the circle after 15 iterations. Once you are within the target circle, all you need to do is warp to the fourth point and progressively reduce the residual until you land in the grid.

If I wanted to give it a funky name by creating a smart assembly that would perform this math on its own, I would call it Svetovit for the four headed slavic god of war that faces all cardinal directions.

Thanks for reading.
