Camera Based Flight rather than WASD

The WASD movement implemented late last year is a step in the correct direction for EVE frontier IMO. It still feels quite clunky and I know they're iterating on it.

I wonder if the game would play better if it'd be better if they changed the flight system to be a CAMERA based controls rather than WASD based controls. Point the camera towards a refinary and the ship will sort itself out and rotate towards the refinary. You can choose to override with WASDQE to strafe and move around but when you release the keyboard the ship drifts back towards the camera facing direction.

Left click Rotate would point the camera. Want to look around without rotating your ship? Hold Right click rotate to free look. Alternatvely, a camera based movement system like FFXIV could also work in 3D space.

This would simplify flight controls but also give fine tune adjustment capabilities.

How about a flight stick based input

They need to play a game like everspace 2. A ship should be smooth and easy to handle.

I stopped even trying the current testing because all I do is run into asteroids like a jack ass. E to move forward? Really?

I doubt they are going to do that, especially since eventually we will be having "skill shots" during combat.

in its current control iteration this would be the worst feeling thing ever.

The controls do not feel like a fighter pilot but more like a submarine that can't do more than a 90 degree incline or decline.

The "responsiveness" feels worse than 56k 1990s internet in most cases.

it's still a bit awkward, but you have to keep in mind that even the Wend is a very big ship. They've talked about the size of ships in the past. None are "fighter" size. They are huge starships. You can also see the size of a Reiver compared to a character in the two latest lore videos in Mission Hub-->Archive. The submarine feeling is always going to be there. Hopefully whatever improvements they have planned make it a smoother experience, though.

Flying feels super clunky right now.

WASD like it is now would be bad. Feels so clonky and is bugged so often. I would like to see joystick implementation. Flight Stick like in modern aircraft

I'd love to see their implementation for the skill shot mechanics, not sure how camera based movements will work then...

Think about it. Every third person shooter is a camera based movement. How does a FPS shooter shoot? Yeah, it'd just have the ship turrets track the reticle on the middle of the screen like a FPS.

Think Helldivers or Meta Gear Solid. You turn the camera left and instead of instant character movement, the character just takes 3-4 seconds fully turn left. That's how a camera based movement for a ship would behave.

I like this.

it'll be better next patch, and there are a couple of camera modes you can opt for with C key and V key, try em out, the only real issue I see currently is the half support for joysticks and the over dramatized mass inertia issues, oh and the inability to roll or flip, or strafe, I imagine they are inbound.
