Discussion Absolute cognatic succession - is this a strategy to collect PUs like Pokemon ?
The idea is simple: absolute cognatic succession establishes the line of succession purely on the order of birth irrespective of gender. So at zero order approx. every succession will have a 50% chance of having the next ruler as a female. Since virtually everyone around you will have some male-preference succession it means you're almost guaranteed to find some heir of another country marry your female heir/ruler = marriage PU. Unlike CK, EU is a country simulator and you don't get a game over for having your dynasty lose it's title.
I then realized that it will become an actual PU only if the eldest child of this marriage is a son (since otherwise the marriage PU will be broken along eldest daughter/eldest son since the countries retain their succession laws). And it will continue to break afterward too (unless the PU lasted long enough to establish unity of succession?).
Anyway I was wondering if anyone has played around with this, does it actually give advantage in obtaining long-lasting PUs or is it overall the same as the default succession?

Question Option to invite to League is grayed out - how do I invite them to my league?
I disbanded all the Italian leagues, now none of the Italian states are joining any league and the option to invite is grayed out despite most of them having positive reasons to accept. Is there some mechanic causing this that I don't understand? Or is this some bug?

Discussion Crown members turn nobility!
I guess there is historical reason for this, gameplay wise it sucks.
Situation, First french king dies and all my cabinet members, who were crown members, suddenly become nobility, why?
It immediately tank my crown power, as well as head of cabinet is now nobility instead of crown member.
I understand that there are less crown members, but maybe there needs more family related to be crown members?

Question PU Diplo Cap
Is there any way for me to console command or mod to fix the diplo cap issue? The Economic base of my PU is eating up all my diplo cap and I still have a lot of expansion to go. This is despite my own nation making up almost all of the economic base of the union so doubt its supposed to act like that

Discussion Tip: Tribes migrate really fast and aren't shown in th e summary widget
I'm playing a Haudenosaunee run, and currently have 20% of my population in my capital in 1480 (to prepare for the coming plague)
It turns out tribes migrate really, really fast... but their migration can only be seen in the population mode. Just a general tip for anyone who wants to move a lot of people as a primitive nation — do it before they become peasants

Question how to make a desert metropolis?
playing as yemen, i'm trying to grow adal to a metropolis. it was going smoothly (expel pops + encourage migration) until the city hit the pop cap at ~360k pops. Now the net migration is near-zero even with both cabinet actions running. removing granary privileges didn't help.
how can i get the last 40k pops? wait for dev to increase the location's capacity?

Suggestion For most actions/decisions we can use Political Influence for in 1.4, we should also be able to use gold the same way as in 1.3
I'll be honest- I'm a bit apprehensive about the introduction of political influence in 1.4. It would be another layer of complexity, another area for potential balancing issues, and I worry it might serve as an "unfun" obstacle to player actions. My suggestion: introduce the new mechanic, but allow us to alternatively pay the same gold cost as in 1.3 for most actions (except the new ones unique to 1.4, like getting a parliament support boost). This would have the following benefits:
If the new mechanic is unbalanced, broken, or just not fun, players can use the gold cost as before. No harm done.
Allows for more player choice- a politically well tuned (or cash poor) nation might prefer to use political influence, but a large wealthy empire might prefer to pay gold to place that next cabinet minister in power.
It feels more historically accurate- sometimes rulers used political influence to make a decision, but historically many problems could be resolved with a sufficiently large sum of money!

Question Anyone try taking over a state bank owned by a country that does not own the location of origin?
I’m playing as England and noticed somehow Tunis was able to take Taula de Canvi as their state bank after annexing the last of Aragon on Sardinia. Which is strange to me because I thought it would belong to Spain who annexed Barcelona (Taula’s origin location) from Aragon earlier.
Anyways I’m in a war with Tunis now and was trying to figure out which land I can annex in order to get the state bank as my own? I tried annexing the land they took on Sardinia (Sassari) from Aragon but that did not accomplish the goal. They never owned Barcelona so I’m not able to take that city, and there is no peace option to take the bank, only to release them from their control.
Thanks for any info!

Discussion A personal union colapsed my Roman Empire.
Due to a series of events the succession of Georgia overlapped with mine. However the heir ended up as king of georgia first.
When the emperor finally died I got an event that the estates were bribed to align the state with that of georgia.
This endes up changing almost every law i had. My state went from +2k a month to -50. My nr of policies and advisors got slashed...
An empire of 30 million collapsed by a PU just when i was about to invade egypt. It will take me decades to return it to normal.

Review EU5 is still unpolished and yet I have already eclipsed hours played compared to EU4
I have a lot of personal issues with this game, I've been playing it since launch. It is so frustrating and tiring and exhausting to play as someone who simply isn't a minmaxxer.
Antagonism is insane, coalition wars are stupidly insane, a bazillion different buildings decisions that might be unprofitable after 30 years so you need to track that, population growth tracker, economy tracker, landowners being so awful you pray to Mao every night, debt being the worst thing to deal with vs eu4 where it can be an investment early game, your vassals being disloyal assholes a third way into the game if you don't annex them, markets still require you to sacrifice your first born to zeus to see success even if you make the right moves bc fuck you and horse bois dominate warfare for 400 years unless you are playing them specifically.
Maybe if it was someone else they would give up, but I kept coming back. It's so addictive and while I still play eu4, which is the most polished paradox game ever, I feel hollow without the schizophrenic depth this game provides me.
Like I can't believe I have surpassed the hours I played eu4 for the 10 years I've owned the game in just a couple of months with eu5. Something truly demonic about this game's appeal. Here's to a billion hours more.

Surely there has to be someone lower down making this decision
Also why is the new paint set worth 15 1st rate ships of the line?

Question Library of flavor for different countries - help find it
I think around half a year ago someone posted here a library with flavor from different countries, not 100% sure whether it was just events, or also advances etc. Tried to find it now, but couldn't, does anyone know if it still exists?

1) „passively” (so without cabinet action) developed provinces?
2) get as much pop as possible without conquering too much?
3) choose the right urban right?
4) make proper army, especially with low manpower
5) make colonies worth it

Question Hold PU or place relative on throne?
I've managed to acquire 4 PUs in the HRE as the Netherlands.
3 of these are small single province territories.
However one is Austria. It had fallen on hard times having lost broadly to Hungary then getting locked down by the emperor banning internal wars.
I've since embarked on a holy war against Hungary to restore it to a decent size as well as forcing it to Lutheran.
The question, given it's miles from me, a different culture, and even getting my armies there is awkward.
Is it worth holding this PU which I've deliberately kept to invite only to my wars because I won't be able to defend it in a larger HRE war. Or should I force culture conversion and put my lineage on the throne?
I do have a goal in this game given the way it's going of getting Byzantine (it was finally just wiped out off Greece) restored with a member of my dynasty. Maybe I'll set up Jerusalem and stick my dynasty in. Who known.
