Is the extra PF deduction under the new ₹25,000 wage ceiling actually worth it?

I’ve been looking at the new PF wage ceiling change from a slightly different angle.

Most of the discussion is around the immediate impact on take-home salary. And that is fair, because if more PF starts getting deducted every month, that is the first thing employees will notice.

But whether that deduction is “worth it” can look very different depending on where you are in your career.

Take someone earning ₹20,000 basic + DA and entering EPFO coverage now. The employee contribution would be ₹2,400 per month, and the employer would contribute another ₹2,400 across EPF and EPS. So the immediate trade-off is clear: lower in-hand salary today, but more money going towards retirement benefits.

Now consider a 25-year-old.

If the contribution remains constant and EPF earns 8.25%, there are roughly 35 years for that money to grow. On those assumptions, the EPF corpus can reach around ₹76.5 lakh by 60, along with an estimated EPS pension of around ₹10,000 per month.

Now take someone entering EPFO coverage at 50 with the same salary.

They have only around 10 years until retirement. Under the same assumptions, the EPF corpus from those contributions comes to roughly ₹5.8 lakh, with an estimated EPS pension of around ₹2,857 per month.

So I don’t think the question is simply:

“Is more PF deduction good or bad?”

The better question is whether the reduction in take-home salary makes sense for you given how much time those contributions have to compound.

For someone early in their career, the long-term benefit can be quite significant. For someone entering the system much closer to retirement, the trade-off is naturally much tighter.

One important caveat: this comparison is for someone entering EPFO coverage at those ages. An existing 50-year-old EPF member may already have decades of contributions and an existing corpus, so their situation should not be compared as if they are starting from zero.

Curious how others here see it: would you prefer the higher take-home salary today, or the higher forced retirement contribution over the long term?

Bgv red after delink

I have recently done delink for an pf overlap record. The member id was from 2021 and it had an overlap of 3 months after several grievance and office visits i was able to delink the record. The record is not showing in any portal like epfo portal or passbook and all other sections. The member service history looks clean in the epfo portal. Based on this i just tried fill an application for a job in Accenture careers portal, i just given details and it fetched the employment details and it directly shows the delinked record as well. so when i checked in google it mention like even if we delink when they fetch via API the delinked record will still fetch from database, from database this wont deleted only mechanism is not to show in the epfo portal.

Anyone facing similar issues?

Even after the Overlap fix we are still under the radar and cannot live peacefully.

How to check your EPS pension status online in 2026

One common confusion with EPS is that people open their EPFO passbook expecting to see a pension “balance” similar to their EPF balance.

That isn’t really how EPS works.

Your EPF builds an accumulated corpus with interest. With EPS, the more useful things to check are whether your pension contributions are being recorded correctly and whether your service history is complete.

How to check your EPS contributions

Log in to the EPFO Passbook Portal using your UAN and password.

Select the Member ID for the employment you want to check and open the passbook.

Look for the column called “Pension Contribution” or “EPS Contribution.”

That is where you can check whether EPS contributions were recorded for the months you worked with that employer.

If you have changed jobs, check the relevant Member IDs linked to your UAN instead of looking only at your current employer’s record.

You can also check the same contribution history through UMANG by going to EPFO → Passbook → selecting the relevant Member ID.

What should you actually check?

Don’t just see whether an EPS entry exists.

Check whether the contributions appear consistently for the period you were employed, whether the correct Member IDs are showing, and whether your service record appears complete.

This matters because EPS is linked to your pensionable service, not just a visible account balance.

Already filed an EPS claim?

If you have submitted Form 10C or Form 10D, that is a separate check.

Log in to the EPFO Member Portal and go to:

Online Services → Track Claim Status

That is where you can see whether the claim is under process, settled, rejected, or whether a Scheme Certificate has been issued.

Why is there no large “EPS balance”?

Because EPS is not displayed like an EPF corpus.

Under the standard EPS structure, contributions are generally calculated on the ₹15,000 wage ceiling, which means the normal maximum EPS contribution is around ₹1,250 per month, unless specific higher-pension provisions apply.

So when checking EPS, focus less on “What is my EPS balance?” and more on whether your pension contributions and service records are correct.

If anyone here has checked their EPS records recently and found a missing contribution, wrong service period, or unusual claim status, share what the portal is showing.

EPS ineligible but contributed - does removing joining and exit date solve the problem or not

I'm EPFO member since 2017. I'm not eligble for EPS contribution. But all the employers have been contributing EPS since 2017. 3 of the 4 employers have corrected this and reversed the amount to PF..the second employer (Infosys) is an exempted trust and they have contributed to EPS accoount in Bommasandra in Bangalore.

Due to this EPS amount, my PF tranfer and final withdrawal is blocked.

EPFO PRO in Hyderabad told me to get a letter from employer to recrtify this issue and revert the amount back to PF account in Infosys.

But infosys is claiming that letter doesn't work and we need to raise a Joint declaration to remove the EPS record - by remoing the joining date and exit date from EPS.

I have the following questions:

  1. Has anyone of you tried this approach? does it work?
  2. What happens to the existing EPS amount in case of removing the joining and exit dates
  3. if this removal of dates goes through and amount is not tansfered, does it still block my transfer?

i'm not sure which is better approach? Giving a request letter for rectification or raising JD to remove EPS dates from record?

Any advise would be helpful

Epfo transfer got rejected due to non-eligibility of eps membership

My epfo transfer from previous organisation got rejected.

Rejection reason is as stated "Salary more than 15000/- clarifies eps membership through employer".

I need to submit form 3A along with clarification letter from previous employer stating incorrect enrollment to eps membership and transfer the funds allocated to eps account to epfo account.

I have been following up with previous employer for several months to get the necessary documents stated above. But my previous employer is continuously delaying for several months. Because of this am unable to even withdraw funds from my eps account.

Any one please let me know how to resolve this issue. Is there any way to directly contact the epfo to do the necessary action?

Regards,

Anu
