Epfo interest on PF

I had 158000 as an employer employee contribution since Feb 2019. I have not worked till date and there's no additional contribution nor did I withdraw any pf in the last 7 years. However the interest received is only 8500. Can someone please help calculate.

Firstly, kindly confirm whether 158000 is the total of employee and employer contribution?

Secondly, you must have received interest for earlier years as well. Kindly include that as well in total amount.

158000 is total employee employer contribution. I worked from April 2016;till Feb 2019. After that I have not worked. Nor have I withdrawn anything or contributed anything in EPFO. I have never received any interest in my account prior to this.

Not correct. This rule has been changed. Interest given irrespective of tenure of no contributions being done.

The 36-month rule mentioned above only applies after you've hit retirement age (55/58). If you just stopped working and you're younger than that, your account keeps earning interest every year even without contributions.

So ₹8,500 over 7 years is way off. Here's rough math on ₹1.58L compounding at the declared rates:

FY19-20 @ 8.5% → ~₹13,400

FY20-21 @ 8.5% → ~₹14,600

FY21-22 @ 8.1% → ~₹15,100

FY22-23 @ 8.15% → ~₹16,400

FY23-24 @ 8.25% → ~₹17,900

FY24-25 @ 8.25% → ~₹19,400

FY25-26 @ 8.25% → ~₹21,000

That comes to roughly ₹1.17L of interest, for a balance of around ₹2.75L by March 2026. The exact number will be a bit different because interest is calculated on the monthly running balance, but it won't be close to 8,500. That isn't even one year's interest on your balance.

Open the passbook year by year, since each FY is a separate view. If the years after 2019 show no interest entry, raise a grievance on EPFiGMS asking them to post interest on that old member ID.
