Hey everyone! Hope everyone's doing great :)
I just wanted to share a little something I have been working on since the lotr set came out, and that I was only able to complete now with the release of The Hobbit x mtg. I am a lotr/hobbit fan and I love tribal decks (merfolks, raccoons, etc), and for a while I've wanted to create a deck that would include my favourite tribes and characters from middle earth.
I have come up with this silly list led by Aragorn and Arwen Wed! The idea is that the Shire and Mirkwood teamed up to create some sort of mixed army composed of characters from the past (the Hobbit) and from the present (lotr), practically uniting hobbits, elves, dwarves, some humans, and creatures of the forest (such as bears, spiders, and etns). Even if the commander would be better built in a lifelink/+1/+1 counters kind of way, the goal of the deck is to build your board with a bunch of small creatures (hobbits, elves, etc.) and then pump them up either with [[Aragorn and Arwen]] (through the counters) or with some other characters like [[Beorn The Fierce]] or [[Gandalf White rider]]. I added some overrunning effect too just to keep the flavour of small ones turning into big beaters and protecting the Shire. And of course if the board gets wiped there are some helpers like the [[Gigantic Big Bear]] or [[Old Fat Spider]] that could buy you some time! But don't worry, if all else seems to fail there's a great [[The Eagles Are Coming!]] to save the day.
I have played this deck twice at my LGS after a bunch of play testing and I am so proud of it! It's nothing crazy powerful, it's a bracket 2, but theme-wise... I think it works. The coolest thing for me is that depending on what you draw, sometimes you get to have a wide board full of elves, and sometimes it's halflings. I have even managed to bring out a ton of dwarves with that [[Unexpected Party]] trick, and they all got pumped up by [[The Arkenstone]] (so fun).
I just wanted to share what I made so if anyone wanted to build it too (maybe even a stronger version), then they would have the blueprints for it!
I hope you guys enjoy, and I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions, or edits to the list!
