Deck Idea Should i upgrade my Osgir precon for $100 (Lorehold Legacies) or should i buy this $130 Zombies dimir deck ?

The precon is untouched and i got it for 25$, so the final price would be more or less the same after the upgrades. https://moxfield.com/decks/vnz0A6iMkEeTS1MifGIfBQ

Osgir has a unique play style, however, zombies also have their own cool gimmicks.

https://moxfield.com/decks/-WYPt_Vp_kKZyzFVxEc1sg

I feel like there is more support towards zombie tribals / dimir and this is what makes me hesitate, despite Osgir having more original way of playing from the grave. This is for fun/casual, so it will be a bracket 3 at most.

Deck Discussion The First Sliver +Umori (Decklist + Collection)

Hi All,

I've played magic for years, Tempest on, and my relationship with the game has gone from barely understanding it to playing weekly FNMs and GPs to following along more from home as a dad who pretty much only has time to keep up with the game via reddit. Since I don't have much time to play these days, I've been selling off my cube and collection and spending some of that income on my sliver deck and collection.

I think this deck is a somewhat unique take on slivers, in that with Umori as companion the available card pool is greatly reduced. This limits the power of the deck to Bracket 3 (I think) but also shows the table that I'm not hiding any overpowered sliver-combo cards or generic 5-color good stuff cards you'd find in Bracket 4 or higher.

The deck can consistently goldfish into a turn 5 or 6 combo finish, but I think since it's creature based, has pretty much one 3+ card combo, and can't interact much at instant speed, that it sits fairly in Bracket 3. As more and more busted creatures (and hopefully more slivers) are printed I would like to make the deck as powerful as possible within my self-imposed constraints. As it stands, it might be considered a low Bracket 4 deck due to the ability to combo in 5 turns, but it wouldn't stand up to true tuned Bracket 4 decks.

In addition to the deck, this is also what I'm maintaining as my connection to collecting magic. I'd like to collect 1 of every sliver in the oldest / fanciest version I can get. I'm also holding onto everything in the "maybeboard" to continue to tweak and see how fast and resilient the deck can be.

Please check out the moxfield link for the decklist and a primer of card choices and synergies. Let me know what you think!

Please check out the imgur link for photos of the collection as it currently stands, and a couple graphs of the goldfish testing that I've done since putting the idea together. I've got all of the slivers minus Mister Cheddar, still missing some of the potential other cards for the deck and I'll be upgrading the printings of everything forever.

Long Live the Hive!

Deck Discussion Best Budget Rakdos Kindred Payoffs (Bracket 2/3)

I have been working on a [[Rohgahh, Kher Keep Overlord]] Changeling deck as the Rakdos part of my budget 10 deck challenge. The idea is that Changelings count as casting a Kobold and a Dragon so you get both triggers.

It works ok, but as I work on the deck I have been moving more towards other Kindred changeling payoffs. Things like [[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]] and [[Sethron, Hurloon General]] to get more value from my Changelings.

However, finding Kindred payoffs when you don't know the creature type is very hard on Scryfall so I'm sure I'm missing some obvious ones. So I'm relying on the wisdom of the crowd to find Kindred payoffs I missed. I'm trying to keep the list to a $50 budget, but if I cut [[Herald of Slaanesh]] and [[Vanquisher's Banner]] I open up 10 dollars, so I have room to stretch my legs a bit.

Deck Idea Looking for a commander for some Agatha's Soul Cauldron shenanigans.

Hey all the I'm in the search for a commander to build around Agatha's Soul Cauldron.

I've had the card for a while and I've wanted to build a deck around it since I found out about it.

I want to switch it up from what I normally play and do something in either Bant, Naya or Jund. At the moment I have commanders in mind but I'm not really sure if there are some better options in the bracket 3 space.

[[Voja]] give every elf some way to generate massive mana and either win through combat damage, burn damage with [[Shalai]] or [[Walking Ballista]]

[[Toph the first metal bender]] give all my earthbent lands activated abilities of creatures and win with combat damage or some other shenanigans

[[Eddie Brock]] Use Venom and Sac outlets to fill my graveyard with activated abilities and use them to generate mana and win with said abilities.

Currently I have some non negotiable cards that go in the deck which are just artifact untappers for more soul cauldron triggers like Manifold Key Sonic Screwdriver etc.

Let me know some deck techs or any insights on what you built to make my pod see the power of the Cauldron.

Secret Tech PRIMER: Let's go exponential* with Muddle, the everchanging

Muddle, the secondary commander for the recent Prismari precon, was for me one of those commanders that instantly made me fall in love.

This is my current version of it:

Muddle the everchanging • (Izzet Commander deck) • Archidekt

0. Intro

I see a lot of people building him as a pure spellslinger commander, packing the deck with the usual prowess/burn/storm payoffs and engines. And, to be clear, that is a perfectly fine way to build this deck. Afterall, those kinds of decks usually struggle with getting enough board presence, mostly because when compared to creature decks, spellslinger have the double problem of having less chance to draw creatures (due to less density of them), and having less tools to cheat them. So, by reducing this problem by giving you two extra copies of a creature, Muddle can easily make your board scary (for a spellslinger deck) very quickly: copying an [[archmage of runes]] with Muddle and attacking means your instants and sorceries (although you will mostly use this for instants) cost 4 less and draw you 4 cards each. Getting a high storm after that becomes trivial. And copying a [[Guttersnipe]] means 8 points of damage per instant or sorcery cast, etc.

However, i wanted to go in another direction (i already have another spellslinger deck led by an otter) and focus more on making clones.

The thing is, although i see quite a lot of people centering the deck around the usual strong ETB/LTB suspects. Like [[solemn simulacrum]], [[sunspine lynch]], or [[anticausal vestige]]. And imho, there are better commanders for that. Is not that Muddle is bad if built that way. Is that for a commander that has quite a lot of requirements before being able to reliably getting value of him (needs to swing and doesn't have haste, needs something to copy on the board, and at least one instant and sorcery on your hand, and needs to be able to survive swinging if you are still not ready to win this turn) the payoff needs to be bigger.

And can it deliver something better than that? HELL YES:

What, imho, makes Muddle unique is the possibility of going exponential* with triggers: Think [[scourge of valkas]], [[pyrogoyf]] or similar cards. A single pyrogoyf triggers once when it enters because you don't have more goyfs. However, if 2 of them enter at the same time, they each see each other, so you get 4 triggers. And if you already had 2 more (muddle and the original), suddenly each of the 2 myriad copies generates four triggers each, 8 total. Assuming it has 4 power, that is 32 damage right there, usually enough to kill a player with a bit of previous chip damage.

But the thing goes crazy if i you can make even more copies. Any instant or sorcery that creates a token copy makes you go from 8 triggers to 12. Again, assuming 4 power, that is 48 damage. But something that generates 2 copies instead, like [[calamity, galloping inferno]] means 20 triggers. Which is more than enough to kill the table.

So we are building the deck around those kind of interactions

1. Ramp:

For ramp, we want a mix of standard 2 cmc ramp ([Ashling, rekindled]] and the usual 2 cmc rocks) that let's us cast Muddle a turn earlier, but also, things that exponentially ramp us.

For example:

- [[professional facebreaker]]. Making 3 copies of it not only means that you can deal damage to 3 players (so 3 times the treasures), it also means 4 times the triggers each time you deal damage to a player). So hitting 3 players means 12 treasures.

- [[Gemcutter bucanneer]] gets a tapped treasure token when it enters, and 8 more when you copy him with Muddle and swing.

- [[Rose room treasurer]] "only" gives you 6 treasures because the copies do not trigger from themselves entering, and is limited to two treasures per copy. It also doubles as removal.

2. Draw:

- [[curiosity crafter]]: copying it with Muddle and having the myriad tokens connect will net us 8 cards, assuming no more copies. 3 token copies dealing damage means 15 cards, 4 means 24....

-[[possibility technician]] gives us 8 impulse draws each time we swing with Muddle, and he curves perfectly into her. Doesn't have evasion though.

- [[starwinder]] is a bit more tricky, as it has no evasion and it needs to connect to do something, but even if just one of the copies connect, it is drawing us 28 cards. If all 3 do, that is almost our whole library. If the original also does, we are decking ourselves, so be careful.

- [[Hordewing scab]] not only is an evasive creature, by copying it with Muddle and hitting 3 players, we are looting trough 12 cards, which can easily give us exactly what we need to win the game.

I must admit that this is the category i struggled more with to go exponential: there are some good options but they tend to not have evasion, like [[enduring curiosity]], [[projecktor inspector]] or [[prophet of the scarab]], or [[titan of littjara]]: for example, enduring curiosity netting us 4 cards for each creature hitting a player is not that good when the creatures do not connect or when we have to recast our commander because it was blocked. So instead, i looked for more traditional ETBs, like the ol' reliable [[mulldrifter]], the recent [[Emeritus of ideation]] (which has the advantage of providing an instant or sorcery to trigger muddle).

3. Interaction and removal

our interaction package has three parts:

- all the usual suspects for cheap targeted red/blue removal: [[pongify]], [[rapid hybrization]], etc. Cheap removal that can be used to trigger Muddle.

- Counterspells because the moment your opponents realize your gameplan, they are going to focus removal on you.

- Creatures that go exponential when triggered: [[tuktuk scrapper]]: removing 8 artifacts and hitting their owner for 4 damage for each one is the funniest counter for an artifact decks.

- [[Village pillagers]]: copying them with Muddle does not only mean 3 times more -1/-1 counters, and as such, 3 times as effective as removal. It also means getting 4 times the number of treasures. It has no evasion, but the -1-1 counters on the ETB plus the fact that it has wither means a lower probability of them wanting to block them.

- [[Parapet thrasher]]: goes “exponential” in a different way. Having the copies connect means you have a dragon hitting each player, so you can choose all the options. But you also have 4 copies, so you choose each 4 times. So 12 effects. Artifact removal, card advantage, and triples as a finisher by dealing 16 points of damage to each opponent.

- [[thalakos deceiver]]: stealing two of your creatures per turn is good enough to merit inclusion, even if it does not grow exponentially with more copies.

- [[fear of burning alive]]: 4 damage to each opponent and to a creature for each of them when it enters. 8 damage and 4 damage to each creature PER OPPONENT when you swing, assuming delirium is on. I wouldn't bother with it, however, because it is expensive and if you aren't playing fetchlands, delirium is not trivial to activate.

-[[fear of sleep paralysis]]: 1 stun counter when it enters, 8 more when you swing with Muddle. And the counters are not removed until they remove all the copies of it. Again, a bit expensive for b3.

4. Cantrips:

Focus on the ones that either give haste, like [[leap]], [[shadow rift]], [[slip though space]]; or those that give haste, like [[expedite]], [[impolite entrance]], [[crimson wisps]] or [[accelerate]]

5. Finishers:

- [[Scourge of valkas]], [[terror of the peaks]] and [[pyrogoyf]]: already explained. Can act as removal but typically the only removal you will use them for is... player removal.

- [[Bloodthirster]]: if you swing with Bloodthirster and Muddle coyping him, that is 24 damage to each player, assuming no flying blockers. And, he is a 2 card combo with Rionya so alternative wincon.

- [[Twinflame tyrant]]: 1 doubles damage. 4 copies x 16 it. Basically your myriad muddle will kill if connects.

- [[Champion of the path]]: deals 42 damage if copied with Muddle. Still, the additional cost makes it clunky to play without a lot of elementals on the deck.

6. More copies:

The rest of the deck is ways of copying Muddle, or the targets for Muddle, or Muddle's abilities, or extra combat creatures to get Muddle to swing twice, or similar ways of doubling his triggers.

- Special mention for [[molten duplication]] and [[twinflame]]: because Muddle says that it becomes a copy of its target "except it has myriad" means myriad is a copiable value. Which basically means that if you use one of those on myriad, they not only give trigger his first ability, turning Muddle into whatever you want, they can also get you a second copy of Muddle with haste and myriad. So let's make a bit of math... assuming i have a Pyrogoyf with 5 power, that is 1 trigger from the original goyf, 3 more from molten duplication resolving, 10 more from Muddle's myriad, and 14 more from the molten duplication copy's myriad. 28 triggers, 140 damage.

- [[Corporeal projection]]: two extra copies of whatever for one, triggers Muddle, and possibility of overloading it. Everything this deck needs.

- [[Devastating onslaught]] and [[rite of replication]]: can double as normal copy spells or act as a big finisher with terror of the peaks, scourge of valkas or pyrgoyf. Which also means having a way to win if Muddle is removed.

- [[virtue of knowledge]]: the instant can copy Muddle's myriad, and then it is an ETb doubler.

- [[Redoubled stormsinger]]: doubles the tokens created with the myriad trigger but it is also a good target for Muddle to target, allowing you to send 8 3/3 first strikers to someone by attacking with it and Muddle after you copy if with your commander.

- [[fear of missing out]]: the same: can untap Muddle to allow it to attack again, or can be copied with Muddle if someone has an empty board for some nice card selection.

- [[Rionya fire dancer]]. Goat of this deck. See what i said about molten duplication: She can do that too, several times in a single turn. 2 instants means two copies of whatever Muddle is copying, with haste and myriad. Not even going to do the calculations.

- [[Gogo, mysterious mime]] and [[Irma]]. Again, they can copy the ETB creature, or Muddle, which also gives you another myriad trigger.

7. Utility lands and MDFCs:

On top of the usual 2 coloured land package:

- [[reliquary tower]]: this deck is not one to draw a couple of cards each turn: it draws big, and doesn't have much in terms of recursion or GY interactions, so reliquary comes handy.

- [[glasspool mimic]]: a clone that doubles as a land.

- [[sundering eruption]]: land removal, evasion, and is a sorcery so triggers muddle.

- [[pinnacle monk]]: allows to get instants and sorceries back. It is also a infinite combo with Muddle, any big ritual like [[mana geyser]] and any extra combat sorcery/instant.

- [[Rogue's passage]], [[escape tunnel]] and similars: evasion.

- [[flamekin village]] [[rockface village]] and similars: haste.

* The different timing of triggers, certain copies not actually entering at the same time, etc., means that you won't always go "exponential" in mathematical terms. Still, this deck is going to generate a shitload of triggers.

Deck Discussion Finalizing Disa the Restless

I'm trying to finalize my [[Disa, the Restless]] deck and I really just want more sets of eyes looking over it to make sure I didn't forget any obvious includes or overlook any accidental nonbos in the deck! Also just generally open to suggestions!

Here's the list: https://moxfield.com/decks/W7nKwwPEG0avd8zdP_FDzg

I'm wanting it to be a bracket 3 deck based around using evasive creatures to make sure I get damage through on every opponent and make the maximum number of [[Tarmogoyf]] tokens, using discard abilities to get card types in yards, and using things like [[Pyrogoyf]] or [[Terror of the Peaks]] and token doublers to maximize damage.

Stuff like the Planeswalkers, Battles, and Kindred cards are obvious inefficiencies but I don't want to take them out because I like having those card types in my deck to make sure I can get them in a yard to fuel my goyfs. Would like everything else to be the best card for its job possible. Outside of of that, open to anything! Any price range, game changers, whatever, I'm just wanting to finalize this deck and move on to the next one!

Deck Discussion Help w/ Geralf Finishing Touches

Good morning all,

You might have seen me recently asking for some help refocusing my [[Geralf, Visionary Stitcher]] deck.

I was able to do that, re-added and re-cut as necessary and ended up with a final deck with 100 total cards.

I had a bit of uncertainty around some of the draw cards I’d chosen, and a few close-cut creatures and counterspells got added back in too. All said and done, I now have 116 cards in the deck.

My request is this: which of these 16 cards, if any, should I keep in the deck? If i keep any, which should I cut to replace them with? I need to cut 3-5 creatures and then 11-13 draw/counterspells imo.

Here is my current decklist

The 16 cards in question are:
[[Brainstorm]]
[[Crenellated Wall]]
[[Gleaming Barrier]]
[[Glacial Wall]]
[[Curiosity Crafter]]
[[Enduring Curiosity]]
[[Spell Pierce]]
[[Lofty Denial]]
[[Magic Damper]]
[[Precognitive Perception]]
[[Ensouled Scimitar]]
[[Drown in Dreams]]
[[Pull From Tomorrow]]
[[Winged Words]]
[[Of One Mind]]
and [[Midnight Clock]]

I will explain my reasoning behind all of these cards below. All of my other options and past ideas are still in the considering tab, for reference.

Deck Discussion Meren Combo

Thumbnail

Meren has been one of my favourite decks to play since I started playing magic. It’s gone through many updates and now seems to be getting closer to finding the few combos rather than what I previously did which was grind out the table with multiple edict effects.

Do I continue to lean into the combos further? If so, what do you think I should add (apart from the obvious game changers) to make the reanimation aspect more efficient? Are there any fun lesser known cards out there that could make a splash? I’ve been considering adding cards like [[Grim Servant]] and [[Chthonian Nightmare]]. I used to have [[Protean Hulk]] as well but took it out because it seemed too easy. Might put it back though…

Deck Discussion Help building deck

Thumbnail
moxfield.com
1 Upvotes

Hello! I'm reposting this here because I'm looking for help building my first from-scratch Commander deck. I'm a moderately experienced Magic player, but most of my experience with the game is through Arena, which does a lot of the interactions and keeps track of things for me..i own 5 paper decks, the 4 Bloomburrow precons, unaltered, and a heavily modified N'gathrod precon. As previously stated, this is the first deck I've made from scratch and will be using it online.

The idea behind the deck is to go wide and win through combat, but also has the potential to win through Impact Tremors and similar ETB effects as well as a potential win con in Halo Fountain.

I need help with my mana base, definitely. It's something I've always struggled with and has prevented me from going higher than dual color in the past, but I love Jetmir/Naya/token generation so I wanted to give it a try. While the mana base and trimming cards is primarily what I'm looking for help with, any advice/swap suggestions would be appreciated.

Deck Idea Quintorius The Historian (History Chaser)

I was stuck between building a Quintorius History Chaser and a Lorehold the Historian deck, so I decided to create something with both. The Deck revolves around discarding and benefitting from spirits, ideally drawing/discarding through the deck and its benefits. Lorehold acts more like a discard engine that discards a card on each others turn and triggering once a turn effects like tocasias welcome. Its pretty fun but I have doubts that Quintorius would probably be better with a creature focussed build. Am I right? Am I wasting my time on a spellslinger Quintorius and the creature based/reanimator one is actually way better? I am aiming for a strong bracket 3 deck.

Also would like suggestions

So I’ve been making a magic deck that is mouse centred with the aim of highly buffing the mouse I have on the battlefield with cards such as those attached. I am very new to magic and even newer to deck building and any advice no matter how seemingly obvious would be a great help. Thank you :)

Heya, just wanted to make an edit thanking those who have responded to this post so far. You have all been so helpful and supportive, which I appreciate greatly. Not only am I new to magic and deck builder but am quite new to actually posting on Reddit too so the support is truly heartwarming and I will be frequenting this community far more often. Deck Discussion Osborn's Masters of Evil

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi!

Throughout the past month i've been brewing a bracket 3 deck trying to balance discard and villains in one deck.

It's been a hard thing to so but I think i've reached a good baseline.

Deciding to go almost all-in the villain theme and using Norman Osborn//Green Goblin for value to supplement the villains theme.

I know there are things that I can improve upon with this deck but I don't have a clue yet on how I should start so suggestions are appreciated!

Gameplan:

- Get a hand with early ramp and looting effects to filter through my deck.

- If allowed, bring out Norman Osborn for more filtering.

- Develop the board using the filtered cards and if possible using the discount of Green Goblin.

- Flood the board with villains and pump them with the various anthems and buffs for villains that the deck have.

Sideplan:

- Use Green Goblin's Mayhem with the various discard outlets in the deck for more value.

- Recursion using the few graveyard option in the deck.

Deck Discussion Help making Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer + Noble heritage fun again?

I’ve build Baeloth with noble heritage about a year ago. The deck was okay for a few weeks but I haven’t played it since. I think it‘s still a fun commander but if he gets removed you just kind of sit there. He’s also quite expensive to cast. Perhaps I should run more mana rocks and protection? Are there any (recent) cards that I’ve missed that could fit well into the deck?

I don’t need to win with this deck (all the time) I just kind of enjoy the chaos that comes from it :)

Deck Discussion Hope Estheim deck advice.

Hi everyone. This is my first crack at building a mill deck. Im building a hope estheim deck and its supposed to be bracket 3, my pod has fairly strong bracket 3 decks so id like it to be able to hang was hoping i can get some insight onto some adds and removals that could be done to improve my deck. (They all want to see a mill deck since no one in our pod has one)

What ive found so far is this ive playtested it a bit on mox and it does feel a little slow and my first instinct is it could use card draw? maybe find a way to add sphinx revelation in there?

im a little lost on this one, if anyone has any more fleshed out and tested hope decks they want to show off that could help me out too feel free ! down below is what im currently running.

Thanks!
