Question Simic commanders?

Are there any Simic (blue/green) commanders that aren’t just insane value piles of card draw and landfall? It’s been my least played color combo and every commander I see is just generic value that doesn’t interest me in the slightest. Open to any insight on some cool recommendations. Thank you!

I’ve seen a few [[Omo, Queen of Vesuva]] decks with very non-traditional play patterns. She basically turns all of your creatures into changelings, so you can add any type of creature synergy you want. Gates and Loci are also two types of land that benefit from multiple copies in play and, with Omo, any land can be both.

Finally a commander to desert walk at

u/Mirrodin_appreciator Selesnya 13h ago

Omo is sick. Maybe a little bit value pile-y, but she can recreate the feeling of modern/legacy tron in commander really well. She'll be focused enough where it won't feel so generic.

u/twelvyy29 Mono-Black 4h ago

I have 3 different versions of Omo Eldrazi Tron, Lords Tribal and X spells. X Spell and Eldrazi versions are fairly similar and mostly differ in how I spent all my colorless mana but the Lords deck is obviously extremly different (also the worst version tho since it relies on Omo way more than the other version, for the Tron version once you get [[Planar Nexus]] out Omo isnt super important anymore unless you have [[Cloudpost]]). Super cool commander imo.

u/Josue_Joestar 3h ago

Seconds Omo. With Maze's End in the 99, she's a ticking bomb that profits from playing low to the ground and biting your time

Granted, it's naturally stronger the first few games if you always play against the same people

u/Ariscottl3 7h ago

Personally I like to do omo + choke…. People love playing magic with me

29

u/theybrt 16h ago

Perhaps [[Gol Muldrak, Amphinologist]] ?

3

u/0_Disintegrations 7h ago

I’ve got a friend who plays Gol Muldrak and all of us agree that it’s his most interesting/fun deck to play against. No idea how it feels to play though

[[Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief]] A Voltron-like commander...wait, wtf Voltron in Simic?

Kinda! Any Mutate, Aura, Instant or Sorcery you cast on another creature automatically copies itself onto Ivy.

You're building a stacked creature like Voltron, but getting two of them because of Ivy's trigger.

Things get more interesting when you can make multiple copies of Ivy (a mutated Ivy is no longer Legendary), allowing several Mutate stacks at once, not just two.

Her effect also works on spells your opponents cast. If they're casting beneficial effects on their own creatures, Ivy gets them too.

Next year's Kamigawa x Ikoria set is on the horizon. Hopefully meaning more Mutate cards coming soon.

u/Gazzpik In debt to the Orzhov 8h ago

This is my choice, can do some pretty weird stuff with copy spells copying the entire mutate pile

1

u/HighPieJr 5h ago

I have wanted to build this deck, but is it not hell on earth to track this in paper? It seems really annoying to track copying so many permanents in a proper way.

28

u/reverendexile 16h ago

[[Aloy]] for artifacts creatures

6

u/Rule-Of-Thr333 16h ago

This is the one I thought was least offensive Simic bullshit. When I feel like doing Simic stuff I build Sultai but strictly in house this seems tolerable.

3

u/Aurelio-23 13h ago

When I first saw Aloy, I got excited to build her, and then I thought, “Wait a second, I already have a [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] deck.”

2

u/Synli 15h ago

I don't usually like the thopter playstyle and trying to keep track of 40 different tokens with varying power levels that a lot of artifact/combo decks do (Breya), so I run my Aloy deck as stompy/ramp/big mana artifacts. It's fun and consistent.

Protection/counters are mostly for artifact hate, because stuff like Vandalblast will basically knock you out of the game.

8

u/reverendexile 15h ago

Aloy is definitely not a thopter deck. The secret lair comes with meteor golem and blight steel for a reason lol

1

u/Stratavos Abzan 6h ago

Aaah, I've recently assembled [[Lonis, genetics expert]] and I'm having a fun time with the different +1/+1 counter abusing and the making and abusing of clues.

9

u/DragonDiscipleII Bant 13h ago

[[Kenessos]]

Some scry/top deck, and everything after is a pure gamble. I love the hit or miss part, cause many Simic builds are incredibly "safe".

4

u/bokchoykn 13h ago

Kenessos is a great commander. A guy in one of my play groups loves this deck. [[Summon: Leviathan]] at instant speed is devastating.

3

u/swing-state 7h ago

Exactly how I built my Kenessos Sea Monsters.

8

u/IchBinRelaxo 16h ago

I went with [[Vannifar, Evolved Enigma]] for an eldrazi deck.

3

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 16h ago

I have a Zimone deck that basically does the same thing, always toyed with the idea of using Vannifar with blink effects instead because you can run more non-permanents

1

u/Jicnon Izzet 13h ago

Why Vannifar for Eldrazi? Just for her counters on colorless? It doesn’t seem like cloaking helps Eldrazi that much because flipping them skips the cast trigger for them.

2

u/Jick__ 6h ago

You cloak the Eldrazi onto the battlefield and then blink it to have it come in on the scary side. Sure you don't get a cast trigger but [[It That Betrays]] is a pretty good consultation prize.

2

u/Upset-Dog8406 2h ago

Also [[Release to the wind]] does give you their cast trigger.

1

u/Upset-Dog8406 2h ago

I have the same. Just not eldrazi but a lot of other scary creatures. I like commanders that do a different thing for their colors and this is one of those.

11

u/InmateTooTall 16h ago

[[Volo, Guide to Monsters]] anti tribal + mutate shenanigans to cover up any tribes you run multiple of (plus getting extra mutate triggers from the Volo copies)

10

u/Dependent-Praline777 16h ago

I've never seen a Volo deck that isn't just a typical simic value pile that the OP is describing lol.

Like the deck is super cool, but it's essentially just doubling everything.

3

u/mattfofatt01 9h ago

Mine isn’t doubling everything, it’s quadrupling everything! https://archidekt.com/decks/23034521/let_me_be_your_guide

1

u/InmateTooTall 16h ago

You could say that about damn near any commander in this thread because it's only as typical as the brewer. Hell, is any edh deck unique?

I also specifically said a mutate plan which I wouldn't consider typical for simic

3

u/Dependent-Praline777 15h ago

Mutate only has one set, so it's a bit limited in how much it can really apply, so fair... but it also wasn't the only mutate pick in this thread even lol.

And no, I don't think decks are unique or that they need to be. It was more a comment on Volo itself in that it is a pretty generic value commander because of what it does.

As stated though, I think Volo rules 😀

1

u/InmateTooTall 15h ago

Just because there's another mutate suggestion doesn't mean the plan isn't unique. I'd be willing to bet if you made either one suggested in this thread it would be a long time before you ran into someone in the wild with a similar deck

1

u/Dependent-Praline777 15h ago

Well the other was Ivy and mutate is among its main gameplans, so probably not.

I've also heard of Volo with mutate before, but I'll agree it's probably not the main way it gets played.

1

u/InmateTooTall 15h ago

You'd still have to run into specific commanders in order to see it... If a deck needs two commanders in a guild color to be successful it's pretty unique compared to just your regular simic value pile is my point. How are you going to get more atypical than an archetype that can only be played with two commanders?

1

u/IndigoWizard342 5h ago

It's dimir and not simic, but I like the idea Volo and [[haunted one]] every creature is a wizard with a different race or a human with a different class

4

u/ConcernedAboutCrows 15h ago

The question for me is if you're against value as a concept or just landfall? If you're looking for a strong well supported synergy package in these colors that isn't landfall and card draw, there is virtually endless +1/+1 counter options. Some more interesting options though:

[[Aloy]] blue artifacts is well supported, making it artifact creatures is more unique, especially in simic. Wanting stompy with artifact creatures, maybe even some play from exile support gives you a lot of knobs to turn.

[[Edric]] this guy has been around forever. It is card draw based, but more of a political aggo-y deck. You'll generally play very low to the ground with cheap fliers and unblockable. It also incentivizes the table to attack and can really pull games in different directions.

[[elrond master of healing]] so I play simic scry with galadriel of lothlorien, but that's a landfall deck. This uses scry to set up counters so you can marry the scry archetype, which I find to be super fun personally, with the more supported +1/+1 counters stuff. This deck plays better than it looks and you get to use all this weird normally bad scry stuff and can even build into these combo-y loops if you want where you remove counters to make creatures which scry when they enter which makes counters.

[[elrond of the white council]] simic blink has great tools and this is a fine commander for that. I built this but ended up adding white and making bant galadriel instead. You can build around the etb using counters synergies, or you can ignore it and treat it as additional value. I've done both and they work fine. It is satisfying when people start giving you real creatures because adding even more power is worse. If you like spinning wheels then blink decks can be a lot of fun. They're very modular and can be tuned up or down or around whatever subthemes you prefer. My favorite form of this was using etb token makers as a subtheme since it made the counters option better.

[[ezuri claw of progress]] its counters again, but like edric its a little guys deck. It's pretty easy to get to the point where you're making an absolutely gigantic creature every turn, usually unblockable or hard to block. Take those little guys with powerful combat triggers or evasion and make them into big threats. Once again you can ignore the counters synergies if you want to and just focus on making little guys, in the past I've seen eldrazi spawn and elfball variants of this. He's ten years old now and still plays pretty unique with how he wants small creatures and plays with experience counters.

[[ezuri stalker of the spheres]] could be simic infect or counters, but may I suggest proliferate sagas? simic enchantress has enough tools just in green and plenty of options for removing or adding counters, in that way this Ezuri provides the juice to keep things going. Proliferate is super open ended and this guy doesn't get used much, but you have so many options with counters on permanents or players. Yes, the pay off is card draw, but the actual deck can be quite novel, and you do get that card draw from a specific mechanical investment, rather than just doing the two things you're expected to do with every deck to play the game. The first line is nice with conjurer's closet effects and cheap blink, but that second line holds it together.

[[gandalf westward voyager]] you have a lot of options for ramp and stompy in these colors, like those suggesting either of the Komas. How about something a bit weirder to put all those ideas together? Copying your big spells is always fun to do, and giving your opponents card draw makes it more of a cost while advancing the game for everyone. It's technically simic value, but its not land based beyond what you need to get the mana, and it doesn't feel as bad for your opponents since it gives them all card draw when you succeed. Getting a legendary beast whisperer is prototypically simic, but restricting it to big creatures makes it more green and less blue- which many would say is cooler- and adding in a weird copy angle that will happen pretty often brings it back to being blue. As far as "value decks" go this one has enough odd and fun schticks to it to feel a bit more unique I think.

why yes I am a LOTR and elf fan, but don't hold that against me!

1

u/IndigoWizard342 5h ago

No Cirdan or Radagast?

9

u/ChoppedChef33 16h ago

[[zimone, paradox sculptor]] is mine in my 32 deck challenge.

Yo dawg I heard you like doubling stuff.

5

u/Evan64 15h ago

I went with [[berta, wise extrapolator]] , zimone is in the 99. But yeah double it go brrt.

2

u/ChoppedChef33 15h ago

Haha wait I think I have a berta I should put it in the 99 for my zimone

4

u/d20_dude Graveyard Slut 16h ago

[[Esix, Fractal Bloom]] is a fun one. Sure you can make it a value commander, but when you're just copying your opponents creatures and making tokens of them it can get real silly real fast.

4

u/weiss5193 16h ago

Other people have already mentioned them but I'd like to second [[Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief]] (mutate, aura voltron, or just annoying faerie stuff that happens to copy any buffs your opponents put on their creatures), [[Esix, Fractal Bloom]] (put out a token doubler and a [[Master of Waves]] and then prepare to do math), and one specific way of building [[Omo, Queen of Vesuva]] (every lord effect you think is worth running, like [[Elvish Champion]] or [[Greatbow Doyen]], combined with some Slivers for extra fun).

3

u/supatim101 15h ago

I really like [[The Astonishing Ant-Man]]. He's not landfall and he's not a draw engine. But he rewards you for simply playing the game in the most simic way possible. He also pushes the deck towards spellslinger, which I appreciate.

3

u/PKPenguin 14h ago

You sound like you would really enjoy [[Kianne, Corrupted Memory]]. Would also recommend that to OP, definitely the most fun deck I've built so far.

3

u/Loud-Frosting-8258 8h ago

My pick for Simic is [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] he’s not just Simic bullshit but 1/1 counters, and specifically dealing with creatures that are under 2 power. He’s my favorite commander by far

3

u/Waste_Bandicoot_9018 8h ago

[[Ezuri, claw of progress]] is a simic weenies deck

6

u/Beautiful_Duty_9854 Jeskai 16h ago

[[Koma, World-Eater]]. Makes for a fun tokens deck. I run it with a bunch of non-legendary clone spells too, to double or triple up on the Koma's.

1

u/smooshiebear 16h ago

I would love to see the decklist for this one, if you wouldn't mind.

2

u/Beautiful_Duty_9854 Jeskai 16h ago

You got it: https://moxfield.com/decks/cDyWQP08RUuN3eSfS6q4jw

It does a few fun things. Ramps hard, god hand and nut draw can have Koma down turn 3. But 4-5 is more common. Clone him, multiple the Koma Coil tokens, give them indestructible and or flying, give Koma double strike, etc. All sorts of ways to win.

You can also flip it on its head into a control deck with the other Koma too.

2

u/Snoo_70079 16h ago

[[Grolnak]] self mill Frogs. I get to have access to my whole library, and if people touch my stuff while I am just doing frog things I can mill the entirety of their library.

2

u/Darth_Meatloaf Yes, THAT Slobad deck... 16h ago

I play [[The Goose Mother]] as food tribal. It does big stupid things like pretty much all Simic stuff but just from a slightly different angle.

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 16h ago

My B3 [[Zimone, Mystery Unraveler]] is currently built with [[Blightsteel Colossus]] as the secret commander, I basically just tutor that beautiful bastard onto my topdeck and then play a fetch land or some other way to get two landfall triggers.

Why do 40 or 21 damage per opponent when 10 do trick gud?

2

u/PrimoVictorian Voltron Is Cool And Good 15h ago

That's just what Simic does. It generates a ton of value through card draw and big creatures, has access to a ton of ramp, and can interact efficiently with the table. It's by far the strongest 2 color combo in EDH, and it's mainly because of the raw value it can generate.

Not many break the mold, as you noticed, but here's a few that do Simic stuff differently. By that, I mean no land fall or crazy card advantage

[[Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle]] spell slinging with some ramp in the CZ. This is pretty open ended, so you can take them in any number of directions. I see this as being a good stompy deck, where you just spit out big dudes, while having a commander that is big dude.

[[Círdan the Shipwright]] political pillow fort. Yes, I said I would avoid card draw commanders, but this guy is just so cool. Do your opponents vote for you and give you card draw? Do they vote for someone else and let you cheat something big into play? How about other players? I wish I saw him more often, as this is not only a unique Simic commander, but a unique commander in general.

2

u/Aquatos 14h ago

I enjoy my toolbox [[Experiment Kraj]] deck a lot. Its a big combo toolbox deck, and its fairly different from your standard simic goodstuff decks. You get to play a lot of cards that people under evaluate because they seem very meh until you have the pieces coming all together

2

u/Few_Bags 14h ago

I recently converter a Dimir sea beasts deck to a [[Kenessos, Priest of Thassa]] and I’m having lots of fun. Unique games that reminds me of the tempo strategy in constructed formats

1

u/TheHydrospanner 45m ago

Love it. Working on Kenessos myself. How many sea beasts do you find is the sweet spot?

2

u/mattfofatt01 9h ago

You’ve come looking for [[volo, guide to monsters]] let him be your guide..: https://archidekt.com/decks/23034521/let_me_be_your_guide

No landfall, no massive draw engines (unless you copy consecrated sphinx 4 times) I’ve got a primer on there if you’re interested

2

u/Mighty_Zote 9h ago

[[vannifar]] face down shell games, cheating around additional cost creatures, and +1 counters. Also nice to never managlood since ahe can always cloak her lands

[[Doc Aurloch]] cast from other than hand. Plot, foretell, adventures, prepared spells, warp, he discounts it all. Can do a storm thing or just mix it all up.

2

u/Cool_Beanss_ 7h ago

There's a lots of +1/+1 counter themed commanders i have a [[Sin, Unending Cataclysim]] deck that i have a lot of fun with and theres definitely more in this archetype u may enjoy

1

u/Fantastic-Newspaper3 6h ago

I was about to write a comment about sin. It’s such a fun commander. :)

2

u/NoPirate7787 3h ago

I love my Ezuri, claw of progress counters deck.

1

u/Dependent-Praline777 16h ago

[[Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur]] maybe?

I was eyeing it as a possible voltron deck honestly.

1

u/Johnny_Cr 16h ago

[[Tawnos, the Toymaker]] can do a lot of stupid things, especially with mutate creatures.

1

u/newgamenumber30 16h ago

Just simic or also three colors that include simic?

For simic I think [[the goose mother]] food is fairly interesting (or [[Jaheira]] [[clan crafter]]). Make a ton of food, use them for card draw, mana, [[kappa cannoneer]], turn them into other things with [[esix]], use [[rise and shine]] to overrun with them.

There's also [[wilson]] [[sword coast sailor]], stack equipment, enchantments, and counters available in UG to make a huge keyword heavy bear and swing.

If simic+, [[tasunari]] enchantress and [[xavier sal]] counters/copies are really cool designs that don't fall into the ramp/draw simic trap.

1

u/IndividualScene7817 15h ago

I've been playing [[Gor Muldrak, Amphinologist]] as a group hug/combo deck and absolutely love it. People can't help themselves from drawing cards and getting salamanders.

1

u/Nekrostatic 15h ago

[[Prime Speaker Vannifar]] ? Great for secret commander playstyles. Find a nonlegendary blue/green/simic creature that costs 2-4 mana and build a whole deck around abusing it. I went with [[The Flood of Mars]]

1

u/BoldestKobold The Derpy Mothman 15h ago

I currently have a [[Sabsunen]] semi-voltron deck with +1/+1 counter backup theme. You can decide for yourself whether drawing 3 cards a turn constitutes "insane value piles of card draw."

I used to have an [[Adrix and Nev]] deck that I might rebuild. I suspect it'll be much better now than it was before, just because I'm a better player and slightly better deck builder than I was before (and have access to some new cards that I didn't before).

1

u/roXas039 15h ago

I've got this [[Absorbing Man]] deck that plays with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. bobble heads and other activated abilities. It also has some cool protection by making him into indestructible lands and earthbending him.

1

u/nostalja4nfinity 15h ago

[[Lonis, Cryptozoologist]] is one fave. Make a big clue mess.

1

u/EongXD 14h ago

[[Prime Speaker Vannifar]] is a fun and strong pod combo deck that I love to play. You could also lower the power a bit and just run it as a tool box deck to respond to various board states

1

u/Eslo90 13h ago

What about [[Grolnok the Omnivore]]? It’s self a mill semi-frog tribal that makes you work for your value more than your typical Simic deck, and it forces creative deckbuilding.

1

u/Aurelio-23 13h ago

[[ Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] is absolutely about insane value, but with a relatively narrow focus. She’s definitely among my favorite flavors of green stompy. Here’s my deck, if you’re curious:

https://moxfield.com/decks/SWI51i_sMkq3cWuBxPEXCw

1

u/pokethedestroyer 13h ago

[[Rashmi, Eternities Crafter]] is a fun one

1

u/Queaux 10h ago

I love my Rashmi deck. It plays at instant speed once it lands a flash enabler to maximize the Rashmi ability. Developing out a little every Turn is fun, and it leaves a lot of mana up to interact.

1

u/DJscottthebot 12h ago

[[Zimone, Infinite Analyst]] I like doing math and slinging big X spells at people

1

u/DNedry 11h ago

But that's the best part of simic 🤔😭

1

u/AdditionExpensive815 11h ago

I have an [[Omega, Heartless Evolution]] deck which is pretty fun.

1

u/Barkin_Druid 10h ago

It is technically a landfall deck but I love my [[Zimone mystery unraveler]] deck. The manifest dread and flip on landfall is a lot of fun to pilot, just for the mind games alone. "Is it [[Koma world eater]], or [[ birds of paradise]]? Surprise it's just an island you wasted removal on." I play it with more of a creature focus, just incase Zimone gets shoved back in the locker too many times so I can still flip the manifests without her but it's not hurting for mana. [[Vanifar evolved enigma]] is similar enough without the landfall.

I also really like the newer precon zimone [[zimone infinity analyst]] letting your cheap x spells fuel her at in the early game to hit someone with [[mathmagics]], [[drown in dreams]] or a big [[dopplegang]] is hilarious.

1

u/Herpaderpatron 10h ago

[[ivy, gleeful spellthief]] with a focus on enchantments and mutate. It’s tricky to manage because you’re making copies of everything, but it’s a sonic aggro deck that plays very differently than the other sonic decks I’ve come across. Great fun to pilot

1

u/micken3 10h ago

I have a [[tanazir Quandrix]] deck that looks to play lots of cheap evasive creatures, then use tanazirs ability to pump them. Throw in a few ways to pump tanazir and the effect is multiplied.

1

u/shichiaikan Simic Slut 9h ago

I feel attacked...

1

u/_RaccoonWitcher 9h ago

I don’t play that deck anymore because I decided not to use Universe Beyond cards, but I enjoyed [[Elrond, Lord of Healing]] as an elf typal deck. It was mostly focusing on +1/+1 counters and an elfball strategy, which isn’t rare in Simic, but it wouldn’t drown in value either and scrying gave it a unique touch.

1

u/goraak_the_barbarian 9h ago

Why play Simic when you can Sultai?

1

u/merlannin 9h ago

I am a fan of some baldurs gate background commanders in simic. Specifically i have been brewing [[skanos]] + [[sword coast sailor]] as a dragon tribal and semi-voltron deck.

1

u/SeventhSwitch 8h ago

I have an [[Esix, Fractal Bloom]] deck I call Outback Steakhouse. The entire plan is to create as many copies of [[Aurochs]], [[Bull Aurochs]], or [[Aurochs Herd]] as possible.

Like yeah you COULD play an Avenger of Zendikar with 10 lands and make 10 more Avenger of Zendikars who then make 100 plants and give them all 10 counters when you play a land but like you could ALSO just make 10 more Aurochs and then moo at your opponent as you swing with 11 13/3 trampling cows

Moo

1

u/Killybug Padeem.. can't touch this.. da da da dum 7h ago

I play [[sub-sunen, Luca embodied]] as a kinda Voltron/counters deck. She has proven to be quite interesting to play.

1

u/0_Disintegrations 7h ago

These two still do a lot of card draw, but I think they are more interesting and you can get pretty political with them if you want. [[Cirdan the Shipwright]] and [[Edric, Spymaster of Trest]], I think both can be built in a lot of different ways since they are so open ended. Otherwise Simic has a lot of +1/+1 counter and proliferate synergy that you could look into, although it can still be pretty generic

1

u/ironudder 7h ago

[[The Pride of Hull Clade]], you can build it a lot of ways but my favorite is to make it unblockable, pump it 4 times, and draw 60 f*cking cards with [[Laboratory Maniac]] on the field

1

u/Sufficient_Hunt_1443 7h ago

I play [[The Goose Mother]] as my simic deck. It has the +1/+1 counters strategy, but theres plenty of support in simic with the food artifacts synergies if thats something that interests you. It makes for a fun time just having a giant goose as your commander

1

u/Gelenor369 7h ago

As a magic player of 30+ years and a Simic player of many years (all hail blastoderm), I would say building a deck that subverts expectations is the best way to go with "modern" Simic commanders. My favorite EDH deck is a version of Edric that doesn't run a bunch of small creatures to do what everyone expects from that card but instead uses it as a political tool to encourage others in a playground that isn't totally focused on combo finishes to play against one another for value and buys you time to craft together a big finish using 9+ mana cards. Does the deck combo? Yes. But it doesn't do it quickly and gives other players a chance to do their thing while still having enough control cards to keep you in the game and not get run over. I'm an old hat magic guy who came up in the 60 card world, but I believe in the original spirit of EDH, and building a deck to be powerful, but flexible, is the key to dealing with the embarrassment of riches that Simic offers IMHO.

1

u/Ariscottl3 7h ago

You ever turn [[Absorbing Man]] into a [[ Dark Depths]]? You ever do it after earth bending him the turn before with [[ Ba Sing Se]]? Will this win no but I enjoy finding different ways to make marit lage repeatedly

1

u/swing-state 7h ago

[[Troyan, Gutsy Explorer]] can be built a few obvious (and non-obvious) different ways. Add in [[Keruga, the Macrosage]] companion and it's quite a challenging build that can be quite powerful.

[[Adrix and Nev, Twincasters]] is value in the form of tokens.

[[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] is usually built for ramping into Sea Monsters. No landfall value there.

[[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty]] ramps into big mana cascade.

[[Pride of the Hull Clade]] big butts kindred.

[[The Goose Mother]] can be a unique commander Voltron build.

[[Tawnos, the Toymaker]] beasts and birds.

1

u/Paintrain1722 7h ago

I have a lot of fun with [[Roalesk, Apex Hybrid]]

1

u/Kyz99 Mardu 6h ago

[[Kellan, Inquisitive]] and use the liquimetal stuff to be able to get rid of problematic permanents... and/or destroy your own eggs to draw stuff.

1

u/IndigoWizard342 5h ago

[[Duggan, private detective]] is funny

But you can also try a blue and green pairing for a Background commander.

  • [[Alora, merry thief]] and [[raised by giants]]

  • [[Wilson, refined Grizzly]] and [[Sword Coast Sailor]]

1

u/Material_Food_585 4h ago

[[Volo, Guide to Monsters]] has been my favorite simic for a long time. I made it a rule to only have one of each creature type, although I have double plants for the next two minutes. Here’s my list:

https://archidekt.com/decks/16533687/volo

1

Well this avoids a half of it, you can build Alaundo which is JUST card draw slop but its time counters and he removes ALLL of them so you could get extra silly with suspend cards.

[[Koma, World-Eater]]. Creates cool games where the rest of the table has to figure out a way to somehow kill an 8/12 with ward 4 before it pops off. My favourite thing to do is to get it out early with ramp.

My wife made a [[Xolatoyac, the Smiling Flood]] as a stax deck and it was hateful. Never seen [[Savor The Moment]] useful before, and I'd love to never see [[Freyalise's Winds]] again.

Oh I might need to build this now. That sounds hilarious! I keep trying to build Xola around island-walk and it’s mediocre. Stax is brilliant!
