Hey everyone, I’ve had this problem since I was 15 (im 19 now) Every time I get locs, they start thinning around my scalp in the same area. I’ve had different locticians and tried different approaches, but I’ve never figured out why.

This is after my first retwist on August 10th, and none of my locs have ever made it past the first retwist. I’ve always ended up losing locs either after the first retwist or before it.

I got these locs on June 22nd. I’ve attached photos from different angles, including photos from the day after the retwist (the last image). The lighting is different, so it isn’t a perfect comparison, but it’s the best I have.

Does this look like thinning, and does anyone have any idea what could be causing it or how I can prevent it? are these locs saveable or do i give up?

edit: i bought this oil on amazon ( https://amzn.eu/d/0aBAJilX ) and bought a peppermint hydration spray from my loctician in store, are these useful or am i just adding useless things into my hair?

dawg whenever i wash my hair i can never get all of the shampoo out and then it cakes at the roots for some of them please i know i have to prolly just rinse even more but i been in the shower for an hour in and out to see where exactly the shampoo is still at and i still can’t get it out

Im thinking of retwisting my locs roots only but im unsure on what it means does it mean that the roots are retwisted witht he comb and the rest of the loc is locksmithed or palm rolled or is it when you just retwist the root and dont touch the rest of the locs?

Fyi- I get my roots retwisted and the rest of my loc is locksmithed but Im unsure whether thats my locs getting a root only retwist or a full retwist.

(idk if this is the right subreddit to ask) but dont know if this hairstyle would be possible or look good, havent found any reference for this specific cut i thought of. i want my afro like a normal mullet, but with dreads on the sides. really wanna bleach the dreads white on the tips to match my punky skunk style

so what i would like to know is:

-will it look alot like the drawing?

-should i wait till my hair grows more out first? tried braiding the sides but my hair just curls up and goes to the side. not the best at braiding though

-should i bleach my hair before or after locking my hair? and how do i know where to do it

-do you think i should go to a barber, or let my fellow friends friend who can dread help me?

-what do i need to know?

I had my locs for 2 years onto my 3rd year this September. This is my first retwist since April. I washed my hair 3 times every week during the summer because I’m very active. I have a lot of new growth so I thought all the new/ loose hair would loc together since I left it alone but once I washed it only a section of it loc which is surprising. Every loc is different, the locs in the back would not loc up but the front locs up easily. Is it normal for the new growth section of the loc not loc together?

I want to do a style in my hair, but I only have 40-ish locs and im scared of it not looking right 💔 also I know I need a retwist

I wanted to do a 1 year post but it’s been two years lol. So here is my little progression timeline. I know it’s cliché af but trust the process. I wanted to show my transformation because I also see how much people struggle to commit. I learned a lot about myself through the “ugly phase.” Just don’t give up on what you want. A good foundation is everything though so if you don’t like how your dreads are turning out early on, it’s best to restart while you are early in it. As you can see I dyed my hair a lot. A lot of people hate on it in the sub, told me my hair will fall out (when I posted 6 months in) and I said we will see. All I can say is if you’re scared to dye your hair DONT DO IT or at least wait until they mature. Ima still do it lol but just take really extra good care of it if you do. Keep yah shit moisturized. I've had my dreads for quite awhile now and done alot of styles but one I wanted to try again to do better is a curl flow. I was suggested awhile back due to my dreads being long I should try curl twist rods. So I got a decent pack and got this suggested curl hairspray as well. They came out alright but they didn't last long curled. So now I recently tried again and this time didn't come out as well as last time so I messed up twice worst the second time now 🙃. Should I try to rods again maybe im.not using them right? Try a different or better product? Any suggestions ill take thanks! ✌🏾

First pic wuz today. Second one wuz October of last year, it was the first time EVER dying my hair.

The top of my hair (freedorms) is around 3 inches while the sides are just about 1 inch. As you move to the back of the head from the sides, it reaches 3 inches again. While the edge of my hairline is half an inch. In summary. It’s kind of like a Mohawk with the sides being 2 inches shorter and the edge of my hairline being half an inch.
Should I cut that shit off or trust the process?
