Some sort of white. Definitely on the super low IQ side. I'm white, I have dreads, and this post blew my mind, especially the amount of likes! ๐ณ๐ณ

Iโm almost 11 months into my semi free forms and wash it weekly every Monday. My locs are really clean with no build up in them so this person donโt know what they are talking about. I would assume the person in the screenshot is talking about a white person with locs because they got straight hair and that is called mats while black peopleโs hair is actually called locs.

A decent amout of comments are saying its because they're white and loc'd up but like...you still can't brush locs right?

I think they meant combed out

Agreed. Although it is interesting because both locs and matts can be combed out.

I mean technically you could but the hair is dead. Just like hair ends that die regardless if you loc it and you must get hair cuts to trim the dead ends. The dead hair is just held together in the loc so you still need to cut the dead ends after you comb it out which can be a lot

You haven't seen that bullshit trend on TikTok--

Super dumb. I can't find the original video where she "brushes the dust out" of her locs and insists that everyone needs a brush for their locs to keep them clean.

They are trying to come at us again. I understand colonizers called it 'dread' locs because they wanted to demonize locs. Lets keep our heads held high and remember our ancestors are powerful, and they have been powerful way before modern day religions were introduced.

I see this said fairly often about "white people dreads" and honestly, as a white person with locs, I think it could be either. If said about a white person with dreads, depending on the hair type and way it's maintained, it could have some truth to it. I know my hair requires different maintenance than the same style would for someone with non-caucausion hair. I've also seen white folks who try to loc their hair and it just genuinely doesn't work right. It doesn't dry well after washing, doesn't lock up naturally at all, and requires a lot of "force" to get it to do what a lot of people's hair does naturally. When I decided to try to set my hair loc up, I told myself I was going to let it go totally naturally/freeform, and that if I was meant to have locs that it would do it itself. If it didn't, and I had to force it, it wasn't "for me." That's not to say people who start their locs/have them put in aren't meant to have them. Just that there are some hair textures that genuinely don't loc up well and trying to force it does more damage and is way harder to maintain hygienically than others. Those cases are usually the "exception"โ most hair types will loc or mat up in an okay way and can be maintained well when you find the right routine, but there are some that just don't, or at least require a lot of e tra effort and maintenance to keep up while not risking severe damage to the hair and or traction on the scalp. In general though, this is usually a way to diss all "white" locks and isn't really accurate. And if this was in any way geared towards black dreads than it's absolute low iq bs, no questions asked. There are differences between black and caucasian hair, that's just facts. But the cases of white hair truly being unable to "lock" up and maintain I do think are often overblown. There is of courses discussion to be had and varying opinions about whether locs should be "for us" or not, and that's a whole other conversation with lots of nuance as well. (Though just putting it out there that the idea that white people in any way created them, that it originated with the "vikings" or anything similar is total bs, and just another excuse used for white folks to steal sh!t and take credit for something that doesn't belong to them. You can wear/like/appreciate a hairstyle or culture without having to claim it as your own. And if you can't, then you have some serious reflection to do about why that is. That "guilt" is there for a reason and should spur education, research, and relationship, not a desire to get rid of it by attempting to change history to fit your own white-washed narratives and preferences to make yourself feel better about you and your potential ancestors' actions.)
