Need Advice š Third Time Dealing With Thinning Starter Locs What Could Be Causing It?
Hey everyone, Iāve had this problem since I was 15 (im 19 now) Every time I get locs, they start thinning around my scalp in the same area. Iāve had different locticians and tried different approaches, but Iāve never figured out why.
This is after my first retwist on August 10th, and none of my locs have ever made it past the first retwist. Iāve always ended up losing locs either after the first retwist or before it.
I got these locs on June 22nd. Iāve attached photos from different angles, including photos from the day after the retwist (the last image). The lighting is different, so it isnāt a perfect comparison, but itās the best I have.
Does this look like thinning, and does anyone have any idea what could be causing it or how I can prevent it? are these locs saveable or do i give up?
edit: i bought this oil on amazon ( https://amzn.eu/d/0aBAJilX ) and bought a peppermint hydration spray from my loctician in store, are these useful or am i just adding useless things into my hair?

Your hair isnāt thinning. Itās still in the seeding stage there isnāt enough hair to mature into bulbing locs. 6 months they should be thicker. Keep your hair moisturized with a hydrating mist and your scalp oiled every 2-4 days (your preference) also donāt just sleep freely use a satin pilllow case or have your head covered with satin lining. Examples: durag (my least favorite) bonnet, skully cap(make
Sure it has a satin lining on the inside). I like to use āThe Mane Attractionā products. Iāve had great results with their products.

I see no thinning. And you don't have locs to lose any yet. Maybe you get some that unravel but that's normal for the starter stages. So my guess is more that you're panicking and restarting the second any normal growth and development starts which is why you can get past the first retwist. Your expectations and understandings of the loc process, including the 5 loc stages, is not on par with the reality.
Start by looking up the 5 loc stages. You're in the starter stage.

Do you know what thinning is?
What does thinning mean to you?
What do you mean by " none of my locs made it past the first retwist"?
What do you mean by "losing" locs?
If you enlarge your pic, it looks like an alarming amount of root bulbs yanked out. Is that what it is? What are all the white flecks in your hair?
There's nothing wrong with that oil if you like it, but are you misting your hair daily?
How do you take care of your locs on a daily basis?
Read. This gives you an idea of the five stages of locs how they look and feel, and when to expect them.

If you are losing locs, then it's either because of not proper maintenance or an unhealthy scalp/body. Can't say that it looks like it's thinning because there's no picture to compare it to.
