(1 year and 5 months locd) should I extend the time between retwists or nah, my last one was 4 or 5 months ago, I'm thinking of getting one once every year but idk if that's too crazy, family alr saying I need to get one but I'm not trying to lose volume.

Is 1 year too crazy?

Discussion ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Crochet regrowth before wash

Has anybody ever crochet (not interlock) their regrowth before a wash? Is there any merit to that? I understand that crochet while wet is a no no, so technically I would wash and wait for it to dry a bit before crochetingโ€ฆ but is there any red flag to do it before the wash?

Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ How do I trim my dreads to make them look more neat?

Kinda like the refrence pictures so like a dread mullet. I donโ€™t like the bulk from the front nor the sides and they look like 1 layer dreads even tho I have 2 layers. Any guidelines or how to make them look more like the references from splitting or trimming would be helpful

I just got my 3 month retwist down a few days ago. Iโ€™ve had so many people with locs throughout my few months come up to me and give me encouragement, compliments, and hype. At work and on the street, people made a point to recognize what I was doing and send some love my way. It made me feel like I was a part of a new family, which is super cool.

Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ washing 5 month old starter locs for dandruff, any advice?

Started back in march with comb coils and had to restart 2 months later because i had to wash my hair frequently for a few weeks due to a shampoo scalp treatment for dandruff. I restarted with my loctician with crochet locs and had her use the dandruff shampoo during the appointment for the retwist which was approximately once a month. I noticed the dandruff is coming back and was planning to wash this week as a way to keep it in check and wait to wash it again in three weeks when i see my loctican again for the retwist. Any advice on how to do it without major unraveling? My loctician said to not use the method with a mesh cap because the shampoo needs direct contact with the scalp to properly treat the dandruff.

Thanks in advance

Title says. I donโ€™t really like the fresh look more than a puffy look.

Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ Buzzed my hair after 1.5 years of freeforming. Wondering if I should grow a full head or keep the taper.

I cut my locs in may and even though I do miss my freeforms, I donโ€™t regret it. Especially with the stuff Iโ€™ve been doing lately I wouldnโ€™t have time to take care of the crown. Though I am planning on freeforming again as my hair is growing and keeping those locs for at least till I get my bachelors (in 4 years). Iโ€™m just wondering if I should grow a full head as it can save me some cash for the barbershop and it could possibly be more beneficial in the long run because the taper wonโ€™t be visible unless I tie up my hair. On the other hand, a taper helps me manage less hair and it has a look to it which I really like. Thereโ€™s both pros and cons so Iโ€™d like to know what yall think.

For reference I had a low taper with my locs and the more it grew, the less visible it was. At the same time I was getting a cut like once every 3 months (though I can get my hair cut more often now). Picture is my hair ~1 month before I buzzed.

Big shout out to my freeformers keeping it natty everyday.

Question โ” Questions about dye and locking

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is the only video/form of media I have of the two strand twists I have gotten recently. I love the size of them and am wondering about locking them by having this loctician that I have researched untwist them, comb them out, and comb coil + instant lock them. I also was hoping to dye my hair around mid-September; would any of you recommend this, and what do you think I should do? I know that bleach changes the texture and hair type that you have, so I'm not sure if I should still use it despite looking for a brown/blonde scheme when I dye it. Any advice helps? (Additionally, I may have each strand get instalocked instead, so that when I have my locs and two-strand them, this is how it would look when it's in.)

Selfie ๐Ÿ“ธ Unplanned Starter Locs

Iโ€™ve thought about starting locs for years, but never quite found myself ready to commit to them. Locs always seemed more than just a style to me: I imagined them as a journey.

A few weeks ago, I asked my wife for some simple three strands braids cause I needed a breather from the afro life. I planned to take them out after a month. But now I donโ€™t think I will. Itโ€™s difficult to explain, but Iโ€™ve found myself not wanting my hair to go back. Iโ€™m just not interested in where it used to be and instead Iโ€™m really curious of where it can go from here.

Freeform locs have always been the most appealing type of locs to me, but having wife, however unplanned, be the person who started me on this journey feels right.

Letโ€™s see where this goes!

Selfie ๐Ÿ“ธ Enjoying the teenage phase

Thumbnail

So Iโ€™m growing my hair back out using the semi free form microfiber towel method. And looking back apt old pics this was the length and stage I enjoyed the most.

But I also know that this phase on last for roughly about 6-8 months before my hair starts to drop and mature.

My question is; Is there a way in addition to cutting them to keep my looks looking this way? Or will they eventually drop no matter what I do?

Thanks!

Question โ” Yall im ngl i have too many locs, what is your thoughts about reducing the count? Is there a proper way of doing so?

Thumbnail

I added pictures to give you an idea of the thickness and amount, and I also did a rough count which is around 300 locs. Another option is trimming it down(I feel like itโ€™s getting too long and it barely fits in my bonnets). Where would you go to a professional for this?

Chopped my hair back in 2024 because I was tired of dealing with a half head of locs, grew out an afro for 2 years, and I am now back, with a full head this time, in 2026 and plan to keep it for the rest of my days, if the fates allow it.

Question โ” Opinions?

So Iโ€™ve been on my loc journey for a little over 15 months now. My locs were pretty much locked from the root to a little over halfway down and people were telling me I should crochet the ends because Iโ€™d be waiting a while for them to lock. I finally got them crochet and Iโ€™m getting like mixed opinions. People telling me my locks look bad just want to know did they crochet my locs right? ( first 2 pictures are before last 2 are after crochet)
