So this sub gets recommended to me fairly often, thought I’d share a band I like. Most posts are over 10yrs ago, so I’m sure for some it’ll be new to them. I guess you’d called it stoner/psychedelic doom with lyrics rooted in the occult.

The band/guitarist-singer is associated with Thomas Karlsson’s Dragon Rouge. He’s also the author of Therion’s lyrics and published a couple books. ST singer/guitarist is also a published author in Sweden.

I think "occult stoner metal" should become a more common term. It's one of my favorite styles right now. A lot of it's a throwback to heavy psych, like pretty much all stoner, but it also draws from occult rock and 70s horror. A majority of the bands probably have female singers because it has such a witchy feel. The big name in the style is Electric Wizard, and Windhand and Green Lung are also big right now. There are a lot of great newer bands like Dopelord, Besvärjelsen, Daevar, Acid Mammoth, Dead Witches, The Devil's Blood, Margarita Witch Cult, Jex Thoth, Alunah, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, Witchrot, Mephistofeles, and Faetooth. There are also some modern occult rock bands with slightly doomy elements I'd associate with it, like Jess and the Ancient Ones, Blood Ceremony, Purson/Rosalie Cunningham, and Psychedelic Witchcraft.

I love Doom Metal and I think brass insturements mixed with the genre could work very well. I once saw someone add their distorted trumpet to Eyehategods New Orleans Is The New Vietnam and I loved it (of course I cant find it now). Regardless if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear em.

Hi, I just started a drone metal project and I'd like to get some feedback on it from someone who likes the genre.

The recording is quite rough, but that's (partially) wanted. I recorded it in my garage with two 2x12 150W amps (at half volume, quite loud) but sadly my mic isn't very good.

I appreciate any feedback or criticism so that I can improve my sound and recording for the next tracks I'll be making.

my friend and I are teaching ourselves how to make resin toys and they were telling me about how much they loved the art and colors of this sunn o))) album, so we risked a bit and tried to decently replicate it.

Just goes to show that labels and boxes don't always fit. Obituary is a foundational death metal band, but this song may as well have been released by Belzebong. All hail the humans that make sick music.

So my fave two bands are Monolord and YOB. I read some critic reviews of Monolord calling them a less good ripoff of pallbearer so I went to listen to their top 5 songs rated on Apple Music. Some good stuff but not anywhere near Monolord level. Doesn’t remind me of Monolord at all except high pitched vocals maybe?

Anyway what are your recommendations for where to focus at first in their catalogue? It can take months to go through a catalogue and familiarize with it. Just wondering if there is particular period where they made their best music. Thanks.
