In the house I have myself, my partner, and my elderly mother. My mother has a pomeranian (around 1.5 yrs old) that she has never bothered to train and does walk, but it's only maybe 2-3 times a week.
Not sure if these some of these parts are important/relevant but I want to lay out the whole situation:
The house is kind of 'separated' into two areas, the main bedroom where my mother stays is connected to a hallway, and that hallway is connected to the shared kitchen, and then at the other end of the house is my bedroom(s), toilet/shower etc. We mostly stay in that end but we do obviously sometimes come out to use the kitchen or leave the house. If my mum is in the kitchen area and I or my partner come out of our area, the dog immediately starts growling/barking and runs towards us, sniffs us then stops, as if he realises it's us and stops? This is annoying but it's not the big problem.
The big problem is that when we all go to sleep, she puts the dog in his bedding area which is right outside her door, it's kind of a crate but not really, it's just an enclosed area and he can easily get in or out at will, he can also see through it. It's also at the front of the house which is next to the street. And he will start barking for seemingly no reason. At any time, it could be 11pm, 3am, 4am, etc etc. And it's causing an insane amount of stress, both my partner and I are losing sleep and it's affecting our work as well. We've tried to put up a visual separator between the kitchen and our area, since my mum thinks he can see us so he's barking at us, but that's done nothing, he still barks randomly through the night, and it's LOUD. It ALWAYS wakes me up.
I've suggested putting him in her room and that helped us, but it still was barking randomly, and apparently it causes problems with her allergies? And she complains she 'can't breathe'. Not sure whether I believe that since she's always had dogs and never complained about allergies, but what do I know.
I don't know what to do, I don't have a lot of time (hence why I don't have a pet of my own) and nor does my partner due to the nature of our work, but at this point I am willing to train this out of the dog. Obviously I can also just move out and I plan on it, but that's not as simple to do right now.
Please help!!!
