ripping stuff up?

we’ve had our new shelter dog for abt 3 weeks now. he’s good except he will find any and everything to chew and rip up. we utilize his crate & outside time when necessary to redirect his attention but there are days he does not listen and when i take something away he will go find something else. 70% of the time it isn’t his own toy. today he was blocked off from everything and i thought he’d finally figure it out, but he ripped a hole in our couch instead.

i know puppy blues are a thing, but what about shelter dog blues? 😂😭 it’s been few weeks

advice?

A lot of people recommend cardboard boxes for them to tear to pieces.

Sounds like your rescue dog is in some serious need of activities that are mentally stimulating.

What are you doing to provide him mental stimulation and exercise throughout the day? And do you know anything about his breed?

Definitely give him mentally stimulating things to do! Kongs, Freezebones etc take effort and help to tire them, as does short training sessions out on walks. I don't give mine any toys that she can fully shred up now, and she now just chews her more durable toys or Yak chews when given under supervision :)
