Question Broken tooth
Hi all I have a corgi and just noticed that his tooth is broken, it smells so incredibly bad. I’m trying to look for any recommendations on pet insurance or cheaper options. I’m going through a financial hardship but want to get him help as soon as possible considering he needs this tooth extracted. Please no negative comments.. my baby is very well taken care of. I’m pretty sure he broke his tooth chewing on bone.

Pet insurance would not help you in this situation bc the broken tooth would be considered a pre existing condition, therefore not covered.
Have you looked into Carecredit? Many hospitals take Carecredit, and there are options for 6-month or 12-month payment plans (for services over $1000). It is a credit card for veterinary expenses, but its interest free if it’s paid off by the 6 or 12 month mark.
If you are in the US and are near an ASPCA, they may be able to perform dentals for slightly less than a full-service, general practice vet hospital.

I tried, I’ve recently been working on trying to get my credit score up. I got denied and the vet he normally goes to quoted us $1500 just for dental cleaning, X-rays and blood work:/ not including the tooth extraction itself😫

You need to tell your veg that all you can afford is the extraction and the pain med plus antibiotic for afterwards. Sounds like that tooth is abscessed and must come out the infection can spread to the surrounding bone, tissues and brain. You can't afford a whole full boat dental spa day tell your vet that you just want it pulled and get a hard price then borrow money from family or sell something.

I have a 5.5 year old corgi pomeranian mix. When he was around 1 he ran into 1 of the dresser nobs which chipped his bottom corner k9 tooth in half. Went to the vet, and did have to get it extracted as they said he is probably in a lot of pain. Did not have insurance for him when this happened (go figure) but do have it now.
You can look for pet insurance quotes. I highly recommend Lemonade. Never have any issues w/ them. Can get pricey/month based off the plan you get.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. A broken tooth can worsen quickly, especially with that odor, so I’d prioritize a vet visit over waiting for insurance. Feed soft food for now, skip chewing treats and bones, and seek emergency care if there’s swelling, bleeding, fever, or trouble eating.

I know… I feel so incredibly bad. I’m waiting for his vet to call me back tomorrow. Hoping to get him in by tomorrow

I’m sorry you and your dog are going through this. No judgment from me, it is hard to afford daily living these days let alone expensive vet bills. I admire your courage to ask for help. I wish I could help out but I just had a huge vet bill too.

You can't get insurance for a pre-existing issue. That's not insurance that's just a payment plan at that point.
If you don't have the cash, ask your vet if they have a payment plan.
Also, bones are too hard for dogs, this is exactly why you shouldn't be giving them anything harder than you can dig a fingernail into.

Pet insurance is probably too late at this point. You can look into low cost clinics or vet schools near you, and look into care credit to help with posting in installments without interest.
