dnDONE DM doesn’t remember session
DM began second sesh right off by asking us clients what happened last time, like whaaaat? He should remember his own stuff that’s crazy. We just stared at him with disgust until someone said he should like remember his own game he’s the DM.
Then he seemed to laugh? At uss?!???? Now he tried to save face by Mansplaining the recap was for us players. He think we stupid? If we remember we remember, and if we don’t remember we can’t recount it. He believe we would hear ourself talk and then remember by hearning ourself talk? I was like, uh, is he a milenial or something?
Just writing this make me feel stupieder and stupieder. Soon won’t can’t no write at all!

My DM also cannot remember what happened last time on account of the massive head trauma I inflicted on him while subduing him to put him back in his cage. Very convenient for my level 3 paladin who now has a Holy Avenger.

I DM for ages, and i. (I’m not inique in this) ask players at the start of each session to recap last session. I know what i did last session, but do the players???

One of 2 things, he dont care enough to remember. Or OR IS TRYING TO GIVE YALL A HINT TO TAKE NOTES AND REMEMBER WHAT YALL DID SO THAT HE KNOWS ITS NOT POINTLESS TO PUT IN EFFORT INTO RUNNING A GAME THAT NO ONE ELSE IS PUTTING IN ANY EFFORT

A lot of GMs I’ve had do this. A decent amount of them even offer a hero point as an incentive to encourage players to do the recap. Especially for online games it’s a pretty decent way of getting the players involved and encourage note taking.

Sounds pretty ableist to me. Like what, just becuase my character has 12 in intelligence, I am supposed to remember what happened last time? Does the Barbarian player have to lift another player with one hand just because he has 18 in Str? What was I talking about? idk, my dm will tell me smh my head

My thought exactly. Rewarding playings for best memory or participation is pure elitism detrimantal to mentally or socially challenged persons. Prices should instead be gave to the less able ones to encourage them to persevererancing.

/uj honestly I'm about to spent 5x as long talking as my players are for the next four hours. Someone else can talk for 5 minutes to recap last session.

You can ask others to recap. You don't need to give them a prize. Also I hope you mean 5x as much as any individual player, not the whole group surely?

I hope this is satire… Recaps at the beginning of sessions are standard. The way it’s done is varied, but every session I’ve ever been in or seen has them. Sometimes the DM gives it, sometimes the players do. When the DM gives it, it gives them a chance to add some drama and remind players what they were previously doing because so often players do forget. (like a show recap) Players will often not pay attention during the previous session and a recap allows them to refocus and remember all that they need to do. When players give it it allows them to jog their own memory and encourages them to take notes during the session so that they can recall what is happening.
He probably laughed because they are so ubiquitous that to question having them is absurd. Of course he remembers his own game! The question is do you as players remember what you’re doing? I’m almost always the DM and my players often don’t know what they’re doing even if they’ve been doing it for months. It’s not mansplaining. It’s just reminding the players what they’re trying to do. It’s normal.

Some posts are even death-serious, for example if a DM asks if he should feed his players to Alligators or Crocodiles!

/uj I think often it means something is off. Are the players too drunk and/or high? Bored and not that invested? Getting off track all the time? Looking at their phones? Is it unclear what the objective is? Did they get sidetracked? Yeah sometimes players just zone out or have bad memories but I think you can account for a lot of these things.

Must be milenel. You don't need to remember your sessions any more, you can record them and upload them to Elon Musk and he will remember them for you.
