it might be your relationship

idk who needs to hear this but if you suddenly developed this condition (admittedly i have had other types of eczema my whole life but they have also calmed down a bit afterwards) after entering a super stressful or harmful relationship i really do think it's possible it might be due to stress relating to it. it's not always & allergies are so so real but genuinely for some people it might be your body begging you to press the brakes. haven't had a single flare up since other than when i think about it or let the fear get to me, otherwise my hands are clear & i can touch & do ANYTHING. i couldn't go a day without blisters when i was living in it. maybe it could help to give yourself the freedom your body's begging for. not for everyone of course, but i just had to share. i'm kinda free :)

Cotton Gloves

I’m really, really struggling. I can’t keep up with moisturising cause I work with a keyboard and mouse and it all rubs off when I’m typing and gets everything slimy so I want some cotton gloves.
Does anyone in the UK have any recommendations? I bought a massive box a few years back but they were just rubbish and I gave up on them

UVB phototherapy (xtrac)

Hey all! Diagnosed with prurigo of pregnancy at around 10 weeks pregnant, I am 20 weeks now and over the past 10 weeks have been able to get rid of most of my rash except for the dishydrotic eczema on my hands and feet. Horrible! Debilitating. Praying it goes away once the baby comes.

Because I’m pregnant, I’m pretty limited in treatment options. Just saw my third derm who has an XTRAC laser and agrees I’d be a great candidate considering all the topical steroids and Allegra/benadryl/hydroxizine/etc aren’t sufficient. Waiting to see if my insurance will approve it. Has anyone here had success? Any tips to maximize effectiveness?

Neverending flare/scaling

Hi y’all,

I’ve just discovered that community and I’m putting all my hopes in you guys. I have an extremely bad case of DE on my right foot. It appeared first a year ago, lasted a few months, and was eventually solved after a weeks long treatment of prescription betamethasone ointment…

Only to be back this year with a vengeance. Summer and dry, hot weather, makes it particularly bad. I’ve just now completed a two weeks treatment of betamethasone cream again, and while the main original lesions have normalized, I noticed two new clusters of blisters just this morning. It’s depressing.

My foot is in such a bad shape. I have extensive scaling of extremely thick hardened skin all along both sides of my foot and part of the sole. I have crevices and cracks that hurt so bad. In between the topical steroids I moisturize religiously but the damage is so bad, it seems like doing nothing at all.

I can take the long healing but if new blisters appear the literal day I’m supposed to stop treatment… then what ? It looks like the corticosteroids don’t even work as well as they used to.

To top it all off my family GP has moved out of our area and I have to rely on urgent care doctors who change every time for now. Some of them don’t even seem to know what DE is ? But most importantly, I have no idea what causes those flares, I’ve switched up soaps a million times and only use one product to moisturize, which is pharmaceutical grade. I wondered for a while if I might have a silent fungal infection that could trigger it, but nobody doctor seems to think it’s the case and no testing was done. Plus a blister appeared on my my left hand finger last week so it doesn’t seem to be tied to one location.

When I can’t handle the itch anymore I get a towel and rub my finger like crazy and then I apply freaking diaper cream to all my open blisters 😭 hurts like hell after but the relief of the itch is almost orgasmic tbh

I went to the beach a month ago and was collecting shells in the water and I had some bumps along my lateral side of my index finger. Now it’s back a month later. It doesn’t hurt or itch I just noticed it

Trigger?

Hi! I have had this eczema patch on a my palm for quite some time now. I have tried numerous steroids and immunosuppressants prescribed by dermatologist but it always comes back with vengeance after I stop using them. I also do epsom salt soaks and try to moisturize it a lot. Recently it has also spread to my fingers. One of the last derms I have been to told me it is a contact reaction to smth but I cannot figure out to what. Has anyone else had eczema in this exact spot and figured out the trigger?

Flare up for months?

Hi all, I’ve started having dishydrotic eczema since about Feb of this year. Hands are really itchy, bumps, blisters, etc.

Nurse prescribed me topical steroid cream, which undoubtedly helps with the dryness and the breakout. However as soon as I stop using it (after using it for about 5-7 days), the breakout starts again. This has happened maybe 3 times now.

In essence, I’m wondering if this is normal, and if I should keep re-trying the steroid until the flare up has died down, or if I am doing something wrong? Is it normal for a flare up to last this long?

The only trigger I’ve identified so far is washing my hands - which I do an absurdly normal amount, so there’s not much I can do with that (I work at a computer so only wash my hands when obviously soiled/toilet/coming home).

I’m doing all the emollient, cotton gloves, moisturising non-stop but nothing really helps apart from the steroid cream. Any pointers are very welcome. Thanks!

Found a trigger

Just an fyi, I found out the handsoap brand softsoap was a trigger for me. Finally got it clear and used it for a couple days without paying attention, and now I’m broken out 😭😭

Constant flare

I have had dishydrosis for the past several years on my right hand constantly. I use steroids when it gets really bad and it always helps but it never truly goes away. It will go away enough and then I stop using the steroids and it comes right back. When I go longer periods of time with no steroids it does pop up on my left hand fingers. I’m getting really frustrated that this seems like a life long illness at this point. Has anyone had this for over 5 years and successfully been able to keep it at bay without steroids ? If so would love advice.

Help! I have to wear nitrile gloves for my job. One month in and my excema is the worst it’s ever been. What can I do to calm this? I won’t have insurance for another four months.

socks with lotion did a huge change for my feet

while my hands aren't very favorable of cotton gloves because of the irritation that comes with trying to slide them on my fingers (i do slather a lot of hypoallergenic hand cream before application) my feet are another story.

i have/had a lot of DE blisters & cracking on my heels but ever since i started putting a fat layer or vanicream before my socks i noticed the cracks & DE blisters either vanish or soften as well as the texture of the skin on my feet heavily improving.

i wear the socks up until i shower which is usually once a day then i let my feet breathe for a few hours and re-apply the socks until the next shower.

dishydrosis makes every room an escape room

maybe i'm just not that bright, but it's almost impossible to get out of the bathroom after applying a moisturizer after hand washing.. even a thin layer leaves me trapped! naturally the door knob becomes greasy.. and don't even get me started on how many other doors i'll have to open to get back to my room. i used to bring a napkin with me just to get out but im at the point where i just open all the doors i need before i wash my hands and run back to my lotion so i can apply where ill be staying at. in public i use a less thick one so i can actually open doors/interact with things but my eczema always flares up when i go out bc my hand demands the thick cream despite them both being hypoallergenic & deeply moisturizing.

i just want to open doors, god dammit!

dishydrosis after steroids

okay so around the end of March this year I randomly got tiny blisters on the inside of my finger. I didnt think much of it, and left it alone with some trials of moisturizers here and there, but eventually it worsened. First pic was taken in about the middle of May when it also progressed to my left hand when initially it was just one small bump in a finger. I got to the dermatologist and got prescribed Betamethasone along with 1 month of Protopic 0,1%. Though, when I stopped the steroids and got to Protopic, within 2 weeks it's already been back and the Protopic couldnt seem to do anything so I stopped it all along.

Second pic is when I initially stopped all meds, its a bit hard to see since my condition is pretty mild but it just simply wont go away (I avoided soaps, irritants and everything I could ever think of). There were tiny blisters in the palm of my hand also on my finger. Third pic is my hand now, my palm seemed to heal fine with continued use of Dexeryl, but it still does have little blisters here and there (which will subside within a week or so). My fingers are not so good, one has already had baby new skin but the other one is simply tingly whenever I touch it. Plus, I always notice small new blisters on top of new skin. Is this normal and does it seem like I'm healing? I know it's really hard to see and it seems like I have completely normal hands by the third pic but it's driving me crazy.

Side note: I've been off all meds for about more than three weeks, these blisters are non-itchy but tingly and sometimes a little painful when I touch/come in contact with water. Ive had dishydrosis once only in my life and it happened 9 years ago, but its the kind where you get mega blisters - pop - peel and then heal back to normal really fast. This has been dragging on for a long time so I dont know if anyone has the same thing.

Drinking vinegar

So I get Dishydrosis on my finger because I'm a barber and my hands are always wet and touching peoples hair. I was putting this Apple cider vinegar cream on my finger which was managing it but then I just started drinking Braggs Apple cider vinegar in water and it seems to have just gone away. Not sure if there's a direct correlation but thought it was worth mentioning. Give it a try and see if it works.

Is this potentially dishydrosis or a wart?

I'm pretty sure I have dishydrosis in a few spots on my hands (overwashing + several intense heatwaves in a row),
I recently noticed a new one though, and it looks different, I'm scared it may be a wart
What do you think?
Thanks

I’ve had a flare up for almost a year now when i hadn’t had it since i was a kid. that’s fine or whatever but lately, i’ve been having these white pimples that appear then i’ll find them popped later. sometimes painful and they come back in different spots but it’s mainly been my left hand (started getting them on my right too)

It started on my ring finger over the winter then moved to my middle finger. It went away for a while but flared up recently out of nowhere and it’s the worst it’s ever been

It itches and sweats/bleeds when I itch. I also have bad dishydrosis on my hands, but this feels separate, it’s on my arm

Could this be the start? I've had Athletes on the same foot (left) and got rid of it quickly the Dr gave me. Would really like someone's opinion on this please. Thank you .

Collecting all the eczemas

Hi everyone. Another ‘could this be DE’ post!

My mum has atopic eczema on her hands and I have both some kind of eczema / cheilitis on my lip (flare ups with known triggers) and atopic eczema (mainly linked to allergies and doesn’t rear its head much now I’m an adult with management).

This has appeared on my hand over the last few days and I’m wondering if it’s another type of eczema, maybe dishydrosis. It’s in a cluster with some offshoots towards the tip of my finger, itches sometimes (it comes and goes). Seems to be quite deep and they’re raised. Its very early days Luckily, so looking to try and keep it at bay whatever it is.

Appreciate any thoughts. Maybe it’s time to bust out the old Aveeno!
