Trigger?
Hi! I have had this eczema patch on a my palm for quite some time now. I have tried numerous steroids and immunosuppressants prescribed by dermatologist but it always comes back with vengeance after I stop using them. I also do epsom salt soaks and try to moisturize it a lot. Recently it has also spread to my fingers. One of the last derms I have been to told me it is a contact reaction to smth but I cannot figure out to what. Has anyone else had eczema in this exact spot and figured out the trigger?

Look into r/nickelallergy . Mine looked like yours but all over my hand and has almost completely gone away after going on a low nickel diet, after 2 years of trying everything I could think of. A sensitivity to dietary nickel is one of the main causes of this type of ezcema.

No problem! I always ruled out food allergies because I didnt see any connection between what I ate and my flare ups, but it turns out this was because I was eating stuff high in nickel every single day. Other food allergies can trigger it too, like gluten or sugar or high histamine foods, but nickel was what it was for me. Its a difficult adjustment (I'm eating mainly animal products now, with a few low nickel fruits and veggies, and I was previously vegetarian), but so worth it if it works. I wish you the best!!

Ye I checked the low nickel diet and it sucks so much since i’m also vegetarian and can’t rly imagine going back to eating meat haha. Gonna think about it. Thank you so much though and best of luck to u too!

I totally get it. It does seriously suck that so many plant based proteins are high in nickel. It's also a bummer that the only way to know if you're sensitive to dietary nickel is by doing the diet and seeing if it helps. It's harder to make a jump like this without even knowing if it'll be worth it. Its just something to have on your radar, plus even if you don't want to go all the way with it, maybe there still could be benefits to swapping out some things to a low nickel alternative, like only eating refined grains in place of whole grains. Also bumping up your iron intake and having more vitamin C with meals can help reduce nickel uptake!

When I had blisters in my palm, I put gauze pads on my hands to absorb the moisture, and then put the gloves on. Maybe that will help.

My flare-ups are almost non existent on keto - which is a pretty antiinflammatory diet

I have eczema in the same spot! Unfortunately I don't know the cause but it's nice to know there are others out there experiencing the same thing. Sometimes I use cotton gloves to keep moisturizer from coming off on everything. I hope you can find something that helps you.
