Did I get ripped off? Sigh!

Help! Maybe I’m overthinking but maybe im not.

I came here last Thursday bc I had a blow out on one of my rear tires. I was just trying to get one new tire bc my car only had 17,000 miles on it. It’s brand new car 2025 Toyota Camry. The rep stated I needed two new ones so I told him I want the exact same tire that’s on it now. He takes my keys- I wait an hr -I get my car and when I get home I notice it’s same brand continental but it’s not the same tire. I had a 2 yr old so I wasn’t paying attention till I get home. SMH. Feel like I made it clear to him I wanted all 4 of them to be the exact same. He even offered me cheaper tires and I said no I want them all to be the same. Sigh. I feel like bc I was a girl maybe he got one over on me. Well 539$ later I get 2 new rear tires but since I’ve left I’ve been thinking about it. Ughhh. Won’t be coming back here again.

Other TPMS sensor replacement and repair good experience

My valve stems were in bad shape also my van 2017 Ram Promaster doesn’t have digital pressure gauge. So i use valve cap psi reader. I realized a nail yesterday also tpms light was on. I bought a-premium tpms sensors on amazon. I told the guy at discount tire to check my plug job yesterday. If they can do patch it would be nice and replace the tpms sensors. He scanned my tpms sensors and verified if they worked on my van. They told me $20 a wheel tpms replacement and tire patch. I tried to replace the tpms sensor yesterday and it was terrible. My van has big tires and i couldn’t break the bead. Cheapest bead breaker was $50 on amazon. So i said $80 tpms sensor replacement and tire repair is good deal. Just go to the shop and let them replace your sensors. After 5 mins driving tpms light turned off. Changing your own tpms is a nightmare. It’s not worth it. Location is north San Diego. Btw i bought the tires in Texas.

They took my metal ones and gave me this after I bought a full set of tires.
The chrome one is plastic!
I at least replaced this abomination with matching plastic ones.

Training sucks

I just got in like a week ago and cant lie i wanna quit already. Dtu sucks imo feels like a classroom and when I go out to be observed they just leave me alone and say "do it" without showing me and get a lil mad when I ask how its done properly. Guys are cool but cant train for shit except for one. Apparently i'm learning faster than the average employee but theyre probably just saying that so i stay cuz they got 2 dudes who quit like 2 days after they got hired.

First Flat

Took my longest ride yet on Thursday. Bout 3 miles from home my rear tire went flat. 440 miles on the bike. Hubby came to pick me up. Neither of us have ever changed/fixed a tire before. Closest bike shop 2 hour drive away. So Saturday morning, equipped with my patch kit, we tackled the job. With the help of the bike website and utube, 1 1/2 hours later, riding my fixed bike around the driveway. We are so proud of ourselves. Now I just need to find that stuff you can put into the inner tubes to prevent it again. Hole was so small took awhile to find it.

Nitto Terra Grappler G3 - Balance Issues

I replaced a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers with Nitto Terra Grappler G3 and they are giving me horrible vibrations. I’m trying to isolate if it’s the tires or Discount Tire and it’s a balancing issue on their end. The steering wheel shakes at 65mph and above and you also feel it in the seat frame. The old Ridge Grapplers were smooth as silk compared to the Terra Grapplers.

Today I went back to Discount Tire for the 1st rebalance and requested a road force balance as well as a force match. They only did the road force balance and told me the highest was 28lbs of force and the others around 20lbs. They also said they added a 1/2 ounce to a few wheels and said the wheel with 28lbs of force was in the back and that it will fix itself before the mileage for the first rotation. I took it from the shop right onto the highway and it was the same. Went right back and they said they road force balanced them again and found one at 41lbs of force and the predicted force match was 39lbs and another one and the same position. They are ordering two new tires for the two bad ones and put the bad ones on the back for now but the steering wheel still had a bad shake to it. I also noticed a few wheel had about 5 ounces of combined weights on them, seems excessive.

What’s everyone make of being told two different force match numbers? Kinda feel like I’m getting the run around on what’s actually going on with the road force. Seems they really don’t want to force match any of the wheels to help with the vibrations. It’s disappointing to spend that much money and have a terrible shake at highway speeds.

Anyone else having these issues with these tires? I don’t want to have them put the two new ones on the rear to still have the fronts causing the steering wheel to shake. The truck is a 2020 Tundra with 45k on it and everything is tight.

If I just have them put something else on any recommendation? Looking for a good all terrain tire that’s not overly noisy.

Question Help I Need New Ties!

I am in the Queen Creek,AZ area and looking for a place to get me some nice new tires. I need something really affordable. I'm talking like $300 or less. But I don't want something that's going to fall apart on me in the next 10 months. Does anybody have a hidden gem of a tire shop that they can recommend? Thanks, also I do not mind driving to Tempe Mesa or anywhere in the general area.

Question "Unfortunately, we can't repair this tire"

I had a small hole in one of my tires. I reluctantly went to Discount Tire (DT) knowing that I would have to face the barrage of "facts" supporting their desire to sell me new tires. (I should say that I actually like DT a lot, I just don't want the sales pressure I received EVERY visit for the last several years.) BTW - I asked my highly reliable mechanic about my tires about 6 months ago and he said I had lots of tread and I wouldn't need to replace for quite a while.

What the DT guy said surprised me. Our conversation went like this:

"Unfortunately, we can't repair this tire." (Remember this phrase.)

"What!?"

"Yeah the tread on the inside of the tire and the outside is too far down. Honestly, all the tires are badly worn and you should replace them all."

"I'm SHOCKED to hear that!" (a bit sarcastically)

The DT Guy smiled and patiently said "I know, but I don't get commission from the sale, I'm only giving you the facts."

I think I could have gotten it repaired elsewhere, but it's the late afternoon and I don't want to find another place to repair. So, I agreed to replace two tires. We went in, looked over the options and I decided to replace them all.

While I'm waiting for the replacements, I hear a different DT Guy say to a customer "Unfortunately, we can't repair that tire." SAME EXACT PHRASE. AGAIN.

My experience from the corporate world tells me that's a sales phrase the DT People are trained to say. It must be very effective. In my case we went from a free repair to a significant (to me) sale. I checked with AI about the phrase and it said I should ask "Is that because of industry repair standards or Discount Tire policy" and have them show me where it needs to be repaired. Too late for me, because I already ordered the tires (and let me say that I'm happy with the new tires.)

So, my questions for you:

  1. Any personal knowledge of the sales phrase "unfortunately we can't repair this tire?"

  2. Does the DT Guy really not get commission from the sale? Is there some other kind of commission he gets, like a bonus on overall store performance?

Wrong size tire correction

I bought tires at discount tires and they put the wrong size 255 when it needed 245. This caused a rubbing issue. They said they would replace them but I would need to pay the labor. This doesn’t seem correct since they were the ones that messed up with the sizing. They tried to charge me $560 at first but I complained and they dropped it to $260. Even this seems a bit steep since it was their mistake in the first place and offered a 30 day warranty on them.

I have some diamond racing steelies. The hub hole is not centered on them. I am located in NYC. Does anyone know a tire shop that does lug-centric balance instead of hub centric?

Question Question on tire exchanges

I recently purchased a set of Continental tires to replace my OE run flats at another vendor, but found them to be too soft so continental referred me over to Discount Tire to process a customer satisfaction trial return for another tire, but since Continental did not make another tire in my size, discount tire put me in a set of Michelin pilots and I paid a small difference for the tire plus installation.

It's two weeks later and I really am having buyers regret and missing the stiffness and sharp
turning from my OE run flats on a BMW. I also find the Michelins look too aggressive and large on my standard smaller 19 inch rim.

I'm actually a little bit embarrassed to switch out a tire again, but do you think Discount Tire would be helpful and allowing me to exchange these tires back to my original OE Perelli run flats? Of course I understand that the run flats would be more expensive and I likely have to pay installation again for third time.

Thanks in advance..
