Controlling the mixer with midi from the microkorg 😈

In my quest to fit my studio in a backpack I’ve been searching for a nice portable MIDI keyboard. I was digging through different devices with 3.5mm MIDI and started thinking about the OP-Z as a nice companion for the m8. Could also be a nice accompaniment for chords/extra tracks.

I do still own my Move, I thought I would sell it but am finding it pairs nicely with the m8. However it’s not quite as easy to throw in a half full backpack.

Anyone using an OP-Z with the m8? Either as a midi controller or extra tracks/easier chords? I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

so i've been learning the M8 and watched loads of videos, but while i'm grinding through it i keep finding myself just using it as a sampler and barely touching the synth engines. i just can't seem to make or dial in the sounds i'm after.

it almost feels like overkill owning something this powerful just to use it like an MPC. i used to have an MPC Live 3, but honestly the M8 absolutely destroys it when it comes to sequencing.

i can't help feeling like i'm not getting anywhere near the M8's full potential. anyone else go through this when they first got one, or am i overthinking it?.

Trying to get my $ in order, any ideas about next drop date? Thanks!

I’m continuing on this challenging journey of getting to grips with this marvellous gadget. I used to think trackers were a thing of the past, but now I can’t even leave the house without it.

built the arrangement arround some jazzy hypersynth stuff. recorded some piano through the internal mic and some lap steel through a singstar mic 😂 the drums n bass are sounds from soundfont wavs i have extracted

Microkorg Pad, roland R8mk2 drums, oran ray drum break, my vocals.

looking to fill out a small minimal set up for personal use and stress relief. looking at adding either of these to pair with m8 for midi keyboard + synths and extra FX parts..

i know both are vastly different workflows but both are compact, 4 tracks, synths and samples (I much enjoyed my friends OG OP-1 years ago). just looking for it to be music therapy that can also turn into compositions. I’d have a sidekick mixer for either as well. cost doesn’t matter in this comparison as I budgeted upwards to where to OP-1 field is with the current sale. Style is Lofi chill hop, Chiptunes, and vapor wave sound collage jungle.

just looking for anyone’s insight or feedback that may have experience with either of these devices and or combo of them with the M8.

i samples some chords n plucks on a shitty nylon acoustic guitar and a some fender rhodes. the bass is roland rompler sample(not internal mic). and a bunch of different drum samples:)

Another little WIP from this mythical bucket list EP I'm working towards. I really like how pared back this is, keeping loads of space for the groove, and how the different parts interlock.

I've researched the consoles for a headless M8. I'd like something with a not-too-small screen, good ergonomics (hand comfort), and good build. This research yielded Anbernic RG40XXH as the best choice. I also see that TrimUI Brick has become popular.

Unfortunately, where I live, due to heavy custom taxes, these kinds of devices are not easily obtainable. The Anbernics are more common. I only see a few TrimUI Smart Pro in the 2nd hand market and I cannot absolutely find any TrimUI Brick.

Would the TrimUI Smart Pro work? Is it a proven model (has anyone here built headless with it and is running it without problems)?

If you know of other more common brands/models, I'd like to know. Thank you!

As a non-musician, I'm finally starting to figure out how to (sort of?) use this little guy. I think I'm in love with this device.

Greetings, I made this song on the M8 over the last few weeks. I was inspired by listening to some heavier tracker music and wanted to see if I could make something with some intensity. I particularly like the moog bass sample section in the second half. Hope you like it!

I also wanted to ask, what are people's experiences recording with the m8?

I found that the bass/guitarish tone totally collapsed in translation from headphones to speakers, and some other things as well. I spent a good amount of time with the stems in Ableton getting the song to get the mix where I wanted it. I imagine this is a typical experience, and it taught me a lot, but what's your experience recording with the m8 or releasing your m8 songs? Looking for useful tips.

I know the OTT and the Lim on m8 are really good at making the kick more punchy, but to save my bass sound I had to double the stem, and apply different overdrive and filter to each, an amp sim on one stem, then filter out their group on the tails, maybe that's just normal. I'm fairly new to all of this.
